HI Sparkie......Even I have heard of The Castle and for the first and only time, sorely wished I had access to a Mac again so I could play it. It looks like a terrific game. smile

Love, Witchen

I too have heard of The Castle for the Mac. I even downloaded a demo of it for my iMac three years ago. The graphics were very much like the first Myst game but not near as well done. I didn't purchase it because it was close to $40 even then and it had some gory screen shots that wouldn't have been good for my son to see (we like to play adventure games together). You can probably still find the home page for the web site if you do a search on Google.

Whoops - thought I had posted and hadn't. My daughter only uses MACs - so I bought this when it first came out so she and I could play it together. Great game. smile

This is another I wish they'd wrote for PC - but then again when I think of the scarcity of games written for MACs - a little turn about is fair play.

I bought this a while ago to play on a Mac laptop I got from work. I'm sorry to say, I got stuck near the begining in the hedge maze, and never was able to solve it, even with a walk through. What made it especialy hard for me was the 'slide show' type interface, which made it difficult to figure out which way I was facing in the maze. I went back to it at least a dozen times before I just gave up! (and that was over a year ago!)

Too bad, it looked like a good game, if not for the maze.

I have started this game on an iBook but it's on the pile to play when I get an iMac.

Nolalou's comments about the disorientating maze are spot on. Vicious. But I don't remember seeing what I would describe as gore in "The Castle".

I played this game when it first came out. I thought the maze was very hard but I finally got through it after many tries.

The game was interesting and some of the puzzles were a little obtuse. At the time I don't believe there were any walkthroughs although I remember getting hints from somewhere in the game or maybe I got them from the authors.

As I remember there is a love triangle and some choices the player has to make.

A scene in the game made me very uncomfortable and I was quite surprised to see it and it kind of shocked me to see something like this in an adventure game. I didn't think it was at all necessary. I haven't thought about The Castle in a long time and I still have it but don't think I would play it again.

Anyone else have any thoughts about the game? I'm curious to know if anyone else feels as I do about certain parts of the game.

There are probably more of us GBers who have heard of it but who also have never used a MAC so we cannot and have not played it. Too bad as it sounds like a good one. Think they will ever make it for the PC?

Hi Betty Lou,
In answer to your question as to whether it will be produced for PC the answer sadly is no.I remember ready a while back from the creator of the game that they were not prepared(at that time)to invest the time or money to convert it over to a pc format.I think it will remain one of those hidden treasures that will survive only in the Mac world.Too bad!!!

Hi All..... wave

The Castle was one of the first 10 games I ever played. It's very Myst-like so I really enjoyed it. The Castle is a 1st person, point and click slide show and very linear. Once you got the hang of the maze, it's not too difficult. wink One thing I remember enjoying was the shooting stars in the night scenes, something I had never seen before.

Dan Kueng is an Independent Developer and The Castle was a labor of love for him and his wife. Not having a publisher, they never received the funds needed to port The Castle to the PC. Here's the link if you would like to take a look. wink
