Ok, so being as Tigger brought up the best 'packaging' art on a game, my thoughts immediately went to the best or rather the most exciting opening scene! :-) There have been a lot of those, I know, but I'm referring to one that gets you all excited and gives you goosebumps or makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up! <VBG>

I'm sooooo torn on this, but the one that stays in my mind the most is the one from Traitor's Gate!!! The sound of a jet landing at the Heathrow airport... wow! Then on to the debriefing room. Love that Mission Impossible stuff!

So which one got you all pumped up!????

Some of you may remember the introduction to BLACK DAHLIA. That sort of set the scene rather dramatically.

These 2 are off the top of my head, I may think of others later.
The opening scene in Syberia was magical. I watched it a few times. I also thought the begining of Darkfall very intense, it grabs your interest and sets the tone admirably.

The opening in "Syberia" was great (for me it was all downhill after that.)

"Legacy of Time" had a great opening (and also a great closing) scene.

Used to answer to "Peter Smith", now answers to "Peter Rootham-Smith"

The best intro for a game was the song "That's Death" at the start of Discworld 2. I restarted that game at least 25 times just to hear the song and watch the skeleton's dance!

this is not an adventure game, but my favorite intro for a game is Final Fantasy 8. i often load that game up just to watch the intro. when i first got my new computer (replacing a dinky laptop) and saw the intro in all its glory, i almost cried. really!

i used to do the same with the intro movie for KQ6 years ago when it first came out.

And I fell into the chasm.. the stars were swirling around me..

Myst, of course, that intro still gives me goosebumps. A part of it is probably that being a lover of books, I also love the idea that books can open and transport me to totally different world (which, as a matter of fact, is what they do when I read them as well..)

Lighthouse and Myst have such excellent openings. I really liked GK3 and the new version of the GK theme song.

To this day the opening that gives me goosebumps and really excites me is the opening sequence to "Stonekeep". Right behind that would be "Myst", "Shivers" and "Lighthouse". I think I'll always remember the TRAILER to "Lighthouse" as being the best, but that's for another thread. smile

Cydonia/Lightbringer has a pretty darn good opening. Though its harder to remember the opening scenes from older games, Lighthouse is memorable for sure!

Has to be Shivers because that was my very first game... I got the same kind of charge that I got hearing the sound of the computer being connected to the internet for the first time... so thrilling and new!! (Now of course, I mute it! LOL!) Loved the beginning of Syberia too, but so sad!! Also loved Morpheus... who knew where that snowy landscape would lead inside that ship... that game still gives me goose bumps, it's so wonderful... also love Beyond Atlantis!! bravo

The Longest Journey was the first one I thought of.

Also Legend of the Prophet. Remember that one?

And of course Myst - my first adventure game - little did I know where it would lead...

All of the aforementioned were wonderful, but it has to be (long pause, drum roll)...... Myst.

Still does it for me, after all these years.

The scenes I liked most were Black Dahlia, The Longest Journey and Rama, but I have to say that Amber: Journey Beyond and Zork Nemesis have some of the most exciting opening scenes.

I just reloaded Zork Nemesis.. and was totally swept away by the intro!! I don't think I watched it first time round, too excited about playing the game!!

TLJ is good too, as is Syberia!

I loved the intro to Broken Sword II, that mixture between todays Paris and ancient mayan was great.

It only comes to mind because I recently completed it (and BAAGED for $1.99 at the local Babbages) but the intro to The Ward was one of the best I have seen in ages. While the game got average reviews, I truly enjoyed this title despite the presence of multple slider puzzles, which I generally hate.

hope this helps,
Brian

Even though the game got only mediocre or worse reviews I think the intro to Temujin was one of the best (thoroughly enjoyed the game BTW inspite of those reviews!)also Ripper, and Byzantine should be added as well as all mentioned previously.

Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy, Gaming New Year to All!!! thumbsup
