I know just how you feel, Clare. I played it on the PC. I reconfigured the keyboard to make it more like The Infernal Machine, but it was still very hard when you couldn't save whever you wanted to. I had the most trouble with the Drakkan, Von Beck's Revenge & the pillars. I can't give you any hints on the Pillars section except just keep trying. It probably took me 4 days of trying at several hours a day, but I was so determined to finish the game that I couldn't quit!

It truly is a fun game.

I'm playing on PC and just got past my 4th save point in the game. The controls are horrendous for PC and to make Indy swing on his vines/ropes, you have to put your controls back to default, then rebind them all over again when you are done swinging. I'm also spending a great deal of time punching at walls while my enemies beat me up from behind (the mouse just doesn't control him in small enough increments).

I just love these kinds of games but I'm not sure that I'll be able to finish this one with the controls that I have. I would be doable if you could save more often but I'm sure it's only going to get harder from where I'm at.

Amen, Burpee! I'd buy this game again if they would put ou a version where you could save wherever you want! Does Lucas Arts not care that they are losing a large audience of people who loved The Infernal Machine and waited a long time for this game? I guess not. frown

becasue there is no save anywhere( plus lousy controls) is why i still haven't played this game even though i loved infernal machine. i probably should just get myself a god mode cheat and fly mode cheat for the instant death jumps and play it as i do hear it is good. the cheats are a necessity because of the save system.

Well, I am starting to be more comfortable with the controls as I go along and there seems to be plenty of health so far. BUT - I just came from playing in the Ceylon level with the huge croc. I did all the jumps and swings just fine but after grabbing the artifact and falling into the water, I couldn't get Indy to come up for breath or to swim to the exit. It's the movement keys again, you want to move him slightly to the left but he makes a full turn frown

This is a beautiful game environment and I'm finding it fun even though the controls aren't user friendly. It's kinda cool watching Indy grab his opponents or use wrestling moves on them.

Maybe I'll look for a unlimited health cheat so that he won't drown all the time smile

Oh, how do you make Indy use items while in the water? Looks like I need to use the machette while under water to get out of the drink.

Burpee, sorry, I don't remember about the underwater thing.

I was one of the biggest supporters of this game. It was a beautiful, 3D environment, and I love a game with freedom to roam. All of the comments are valid about the frustrating save-game points. Von Beck's Revenge... I must have tried that run 200 times before I got through. That was no fun. The final level that Clare is on... I think I finally used a skip-level cheat, because it was just too frustrating to get 3/4s of the way through to find out you have to start at the beginning if you fall. Maddening!

I must tell you that I eventually just used the available cheats to get through this game (a "God Mode" worked well, but wouldn't protect you from major falls). The game was more of a joy with the cheats, by far!

I found some cheats and applied them, thinking that I could just use them when I wanted but it seems that now I can't die. That is making it just a little too easy so I may undo them until I really need them. I did find that with the cheat I fell from up high and died but the game wouldn't end even though I laid there. Had to quit and restart.

I equipped Indy with a machette and jumped into the water. He hung onto it and I whacked away at the vines before I fell in so that I wouldn't have to do it after he was trapped. Smart, huh?

I'm also finding that using the WSAD keys aren't that bad. The only key that bothers me is the "left alt" for walk mode. I can't contort my fingers to use it smile Sure is a pretty game.

Oh my gosh!!!!! I just made a bunch of hair-raising jumps that nearly stopped my heart cold. Reminded me of the way I used to feel about Tomb Raider when Lara would jump from very high places. Wow, what a rush! Now I remember what made me love this type of game so much. Oh, btw, I still haven't undone the cheats...they're way too much fun smile

After completing all the Tomb Raider games and Gold expansions (Except for Angel of Darkness - which I couldn't stand!), I found that the PC controls in Emporer's Tomb were terrible. I gave up after a couple of hours of complete frustration.

Mind you, the fact that I was playing it immediately after finishing Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (which has fantastic controls, smooth movement and very exciting fighting skills, IMHO), Indy never stood a chance.

Oh Gremlin, it takes a more than a half hour of playing to get used to the controls. They are not easy but you do get used to them. I had to go back to the default controls to make some swings and have left them on default; found it's just as easy/hard as rebinding them. Also, the controls never get in the way of playing the game; or so far they haven't smile This is a beautiful game and the cut scenes are very well done.

It's only been a couple of days since I came asking for help and I'm already in Instanbul jumping around the top of mosques smile

I'm so glad to hear the Prince of Persia SOT is a good game. I loved POP3D and still have to replay someday. I was scared of it because of all the moves that your character has to make while fighting. Sounded very complicated. Glad to hear that it's not. Ah, another game to buy smile

Well, I finally finished Indy! happydance Beautiful locations, really easy controls, and the ability to do things over if you die. I also really like the way you don't have to line up jumps absolutely perfectly, eg when jumping from one pillar to another there are only four possible positions to jump from and it's pretty obvious which one you need. The emphasis is very much not on dying. And, even if it were, load times are really short. Altogether great. I played it all day yesterday.

Congratulations Clare! Yippee! Great job and done without cheats. Will remember that hint about the sound for when I get there. I am so enjoying this game now but a little ashamed that I'm doing it with cheats. It's just so much more fun smile

So that's two for Prince of Persia. I have been wanting it but knowing that the controls are easy to use really seals the deal smile I like the "not dying" slant.

Thanks Burpee! Good luck with it yourself. It is a good feeling to have finished the game, and there's lots of fun along the way.

I should clarify that I'm playing Prince of Persia on PS2 too (I'm a recent convert to the console), so I can't vouch for the controls on PC. And I should also clarify that you can die! - but you can usually rewind the action 10 seconds or so and have another go. The save points seem much closer together too.

The PC controls for PoP are reasonable, though different from what I was used to before.

The difference between PoP (with it's initially difficult controls) and Indy (with it's initially difficult controls) was that PoP was engaging right from the get-go!

Completely unlike Indy.

If I can't begin to get the hang of a control system within half an hour, - something is wrong (possibly with me, of course); people have been taking about changing the control settings, whilst playing, so that they can do different puzzles - that's just not right!

In the case of Indy, I just didn't feel drawn in by the game itself, and the controls just got in the way.

YMMV.

Where did you guys find the cheat codes for Indy and the Tomb?

I've looked every where!

I believe I've played the bit before the crocodiles in the water 25 times. And I hate starting over and beating up on the three thugs at the bridge another time.

I woke up this morning thinking about those cheats laugh Tried to remember what I did. I believe this is what I did:
Go to:
C/program files/lucas arts/indiana jones and the emperors tomb/game data/default.cfg
Open "default.cfg" with notepad and add the line "cheat:1" just below "nocontrol:1". It should look like this (be sure to backup your file first "just in case"):
pack:0
title:0
freescenedata:1
vsyncinterval:2
milessound:1
nocontrol:1
cheats:1
resmgrload:res.dat
fullscreen:1

I don't remember where I found the cheats; just did a search on Alta Vista.com. Indy will not take any damage but if he falls from too great a distance, he will die. You need to quit and restart if that happens because he will just lie there forever, haha.

Hope you found the cheats ok.

Gremlin, what does YMMV mean? (I'm sorry if this is a stupid question).

It's used to indicate that your experience might differ from mine. I often use it when commenting on something that's particularly subjective... like the quality of computer games smile

I love that Gremlin; fits lots situations smile

That is how the cheats work. Found my notes on them and have put them into my Indy box. I am going to have to undo the cheats for the level I'm on though...Emperor's Tomb. When Indy dies you have to quit and restart your saved game instead of the game handling it and he dies a lot, haha.

Does anyone know why there are so many saved game slots but I can only save in the one slot that I started in? I almost overwrote it (talk about a heart attack) and don't want to do that again.
