Just wanted to let people know that there's a small, downloadable fix file available that fixes a bug in Dungeon Siege, in which fairies and pixies "give you gifts" of health and mana when you don't need it, and this causes severe problems, like the game crashing the next time you try to save, and the terrain in the game world ending abruptly along a blocky edge, past which there is just a black "no go" area. If anyone encounters this problem, like I have many times, just do a search for the game's name in quote marks and add "+ fairies + pixies" to find where you can get it from. Or I could email it to you, if you like. I'm replaying this again while I wait for Arx Fatalis to get here.

CYE, Jen. Yes, this is an awful bug. Makes your jaw drop when you see it for the first time, doesn't it? And a big "Boo, hiss" to Microsoft and Gas Powered Games for not even wanting to acknowledge this problem. Like I said in my email reply to you, thank God for civic-minded hackers. I love those people.

Sig-

Is that for the old game, becasuse I have played the new one along with LOA and never had the problem, want to know which one as I am always putting it on to play again. By the way, I have heard that Dungeon Siege 2 will be out in May, Dreamfall, The Longest Journey has been pushed back to November. Shucks and darn it with these games, I just wish I had them!

Margo, if you mean "Does this only apply to copies of Dungeon Siege that were bought back when it first came out?" the answer would be "No." I just had this happen, in more than one area of the game, with a pre-patched jewel case copy of Dungeon Siege that I just picked up at Wal-Mart, but I've also had it happen previously, a number of times, with the version that comes with the Legends of Aranna expansion. The bug can happen in any area of the game where there are fairies and/or pixies, which is virtually every outdoor area, from the first place you encounter them, near the entrance to the Crypt of the Sacred Blood, to the last chunk of countryside you traverse, en route to Castle Ehb's drawbridge, and the latter is not even that wooded. It's possible that the likelihood of this happening depends on one's system specs (I'm running Windows ME, for one thing), but I would advise that anyone playing or about to play any version of Dungeon Siege should install this fix, just to guard against this happening. Make sure you put it in the right folder (DSLOA folder for the expansion pack, Resources folder for just the main game, as per the accompanying ReadMe), and take it out of the folder its zipped into when you download it (before putting it into the appropriate game folder), or, as I found out, it won't work. The fix makes the fairies and pixies behave like other ambient creatures, so you'll still get to see them, they just won't do anything to you. For the first time, I felt compelled to email the author of this fix (Irwin Ryan) to thank him for making it, and I actually got a reply, saying he was glad it helped.
