I am in Von Croy's Apartment where I ran into the "Cleaner" and I think there is a glitch in the game. I am now in the part where I pick up the amno and he comes thru the wall. According to the walk thru he is suppose to leave after I shoot at him, but he won't leave.

Lara doesn't seem to aim very straight and actually hit him with bullets. The bullets seem to be bouncing off the wall next to the "Cleaner".

I am shooting from the corner against the wall where I picked up the amno. Can someone tell me how to make the "Cleaner" leave? help cry

Hi Gerry wave

You love those TR games don't you . Didn't you just finish Chronicles a while back ?

I played TR AOD on the PS2 . Are you sure your hitting him ? I seem to remember it took several shots to convince him to leave .

I am not able to hit him. Lara hits the wall next to him or behind him. It is very frustrating! She will not aim straight at him no matter where I stand or kneel down.

Do you actually have to hit him to make him leave? think

Isn't there a way to " maually " aim ?

Edit : Do you mean literally hit him ? Give it a try . Just run up and slap him around a little bit .

Robert I mean literally shoot him. Her gun shoots off center just enough to miss him! I can stand there and fire till I'm out of amno and he still won't leave. I did try and sneak up on him but he kills me.

At this point I would love to slap him around as you suggest but I don't think that will work either. Do you think I can out wait him maybe? duh think

Is that the spot under the stairs in the kitchen? If so, I had to come out of that corner and run near the enemy to shoo him.

Hello hugh, No I managed to get out of that spot by the kitchen and stairs. It is in the next room where the Cleaner comes thru the wall shooting that I can't get him to leave no matter how many times I shoot at him.

It looks to me like Lara is not actually hitting him with bullets. She is hitting the wall and I can't get her to line up squarely so she aims straight! Very frustrating.

Maybe it would help if I knew exactly where to stand or kneel to shoot him so he leaves the darn room! Can you help me? think woozy

That's the one hugh! It took me days to find just the right spot to aim and shoot. It was actually close to the right side of the couch where I had to stand and crouch in order to hit the Cleaner and then duck down to avoid being shot.
I am so happy to be finished with the Cleaner! wave smile wave

Congratulations Gerry bravo

Sorry , I didn't mean to abandon you . I was away yesterday . The PS2 version of this game had a lot of bugs in it . It sounds like the PC version does also . The story in the game is terrific , I hope they resolve the control issues for Tomb Raider : Legend

Good Morning Robert, you didn't abandon me. The PC version of Angel of Darkness has a lot of glitches in it. Several times my computer crashed and rebooted itself - not a good thing!

I am also having trouble in different parts of the game getting Lara to jumb straight or run straight. Lara also "twitches" when she should be standing still and when she shoots someone the body disappears from the scene or it stands frozen.

I agree with you that the story is great and the environments are nice but they definitely need to resolve the "control" issues. It is not good to crash in the game and have your computer rebooting itself.

When is Tomb Raider Legend coming out? smile smile

Hi Gerry wave

According to the news article I read , the release has been postponed until March 2006 , but I wouldn't lend much weight to it . The release of the PS2 version of AOD was pushed back several times and was still released with major flaws . I hope they get it right this time , because I really love the Tomb Raider series .

I also liked the new role-playing elements and melee attack capability for Lara that they added in AOD .

According to GameSpot, Legend is scheduled for release in November 2005 for PC and February 2006 for PS2.

Hey Robert! wave

I see on this page that the 2006 part has been confirmed. The March part, however, has not been confirmed. woozy

And even if March was a confirmed target date , I wouldn't get my hopes up . They pushed AOD back 4 or 5 times before it was finally released . cry

Thank you Robert and friedmonky for the update on Tomb Raider Legend. I looked at the screen shots and they look good.

Playing Lara on my PC can be difficult using just the keyboard so I really hope they improve the PC controls. Keep in touch! If I get stuck again I'll be looking for your advice Robert.

I've done that, and at the moment I'm stuck at the area where I have to crawl underneath the X shaped laser, and then turn right to sideflip to clear the next set of lasers. but when I sideflip I only trigger the lasers frown

It was fun, but every time I shoot the Red Ghost and his head goes down, Lara only runs into him and gets stuck mad and it's really annoying, especially when the light around the painting moves all around the statues frown cry

Smiley,

Wish I could help you out with the games, but I'm not much on the action part, just can't do a lot of it..such a spastic person.
I've always thought these games sound so good though
Glad you're getting some help and encouragement with the game.

Have fun..

I believe this Tomb Raider game had a different development team than it's predecessors . That's probably why it has so many bugs . They did do a really great job with the story .

I love reading the adventures folks have with these games, and had to see the movie of course, although haven't seen the 2nd one yet..

So, yep I think the stories are good..feel the same with Indie Jones and the Thief series, just can only play for a bit though..action and I can't agree it seems..but I do love the stories they unweave as you go.

Lol, it's a good game, the only thing I dislike about it is when the camera view ends up at the front of the character.

Yeah , and you can't see where you're going or where you're trying to jump to . Problems like that should have been addressed before the game was released . smile

Edit : I really enjoyed the game despite all of it's flaws .

I hated 2 more things. Lara not being able to run properly while guns drawn and not being able to shoot while jumping, like in other tr series. But everything else is cool.

One thing I forgot to mention that I also hate. Is when you have the wepon drawn and sometimes Lara aims at a barrel and when you try to fix it by aiming at a guard, she still gets back to aiming at the barrel.

I don't know about the PC version , but in the PS2 version , sometimes it was like she was running in slow motion. That was really annoying when I was trying to do the jumping puzzles .

I finally finished Angel of Darkness and not any to soon. My PC kept crashing and rebooting itself when I tried to load a saved game or when I played a scene over and over because I had trouble jumping or shooting etc.

The environment is great in the game. It was my first experience with an action game. I usually play Adventure games. It was quite an experience!

My sister sent me Tomb Raider II Gold. Can you tell me something about the game. Does it have any bugs, glitches or patches I need to know about?

wave wave

Hi Gerry ,

Congrats on finishing the game . I couldn't find any patches for TR 2 Gold . That game was made by the original TR development team , so you shouldn't have any problem with it . It was published in 98 , so I'm not sure how well it will run on XP ( if that is your OS ) . Lara will be a bit different in the game . There won't be any role-playing elements and Lara has no melee combat capability ( hand to hand or sword , club etc ) . However , she's got an unlimited supply of ammo in her pistols thumbsup

If you have trouble installing or playing the game due to crashes or such . Just post in the Glitches , Bugs and Patches forum where all of our computer geeks hang out smile

The early TR games (and gold editions) are generally very stable, and TRII gold does work on XP - I just checked. wink

Hopefully you've been given the two disk version of TRII gold, which has the original TRII on one disk, and the extra game on disk 2 - they can be installed independent of one another.

Have fun.

IMHO, TRII and TRIII are the best of the range.

Hi Robert, gremlin, hugh & popcorneater. It did make me feel good when I finished. I have the 2 disk version of TRII gold.

Glad to hear that I can play it on XP, gremlin. I'll be back if I run into trouble and need you all to help. Thanks for the info. smile smile

I'm about to give up this game. Since it's way to difficult to finish it when the camera view is stuck at the front of the character frown

Hi Smiley ,

Is it stuck in front all of the time or just in certain areas ? Maybe there is a button you can push to change the veiw . I know the camera was a little screwy in the PS2 version , but never got stuck that way . Sound like it may be a glitch .

Sometimes when a game isn't fun anymore, you just have to give it up. They're supposed to be games as in fun, not as an added headache. frown

about half way through the Bio - Research Facility the camera got stuck at the front of Lara, and it's been there so far (being at Aquatic Research Area) frown

Smiley456, you might want to go to www.tombraiders.net/stella and download a saved game if you get really frustrated with the game.

I just started playing Tombraider 2 and am about to start Level 3. Had great fun with the speed boat! lol lol

Only problem I am having is I can't play the opening sequence and none of the FMVs. Other than that the game is running OK.

Hi Gerry ,

Why can't you see the cutscenes ? Do you get an error message or does the game just skip them ?

I'm thinking that might be because you need to install the older version of Quicktime that the game uses . However , I'm not sure about that .

You may want to post in the Glitches forum and someone there might be able to help you fix it . smile

I'll sure second that statement! thumbsup When it becomes not fun anymore, it's time to move on to the next game.

Surely you guys can't mean that one should give up at the first sign of frustration . I think one should rise to the challenge . I've only had to give up on one game because I couldn't beat the final boss , BUT not until I attempted it about 50 times . I was steaming mad at the developers of that game for not putting checkpoints or quick saves in their very lengthy missions.

Well, everyone has a different tolerance for frustration. If it gets so frustrating that it is no longer any fun, then yes it's time to move on. That is my personal opinion, of course. Some people might like the frustration, I don't know. I'd rather have fun. thumbsup

Ah , Ok . So what your saying is that someone could be frustrated ( maybe even angry ) at a game and still be having fun at the same time . Ok , now I get it , and your right . I don't think I would care for a game that doesn't tick me off at some point . So when I get ticked off , I know I'm having fun . It's really ironic , but in a strange way it makes sense . Thank you for clearing it up for me . thumbsup

There are masochists that enjoy stuff that other folks would flee, and then there are all of us that fall somewhere on the spectrum. There is no award for sticking to a game when it isn't fun, and only you can determine if you want to give a game up, or at what point, but no one should ever feel bad because they didn't stick with it when it wasn't fun. And now if you please, that's enough on that diversion, and let us allow the thread to be what it was originally about.

No apologies necessary! I am enjoying TRII and am now in Level 6. I am happy that this game is not crashing on me like Angel of Darkness.

I just picked up a used copy of TR4 and am wondering if you all can tell me about it. Do you know of any glitches or problems I might encounter with the game?

Hi Gerry , wave

As far as I know , Tr : AOD is the only Tomb Raider game that has major issues . All others should be fairly stable .

Edit : Here is a link where you can read about all of the Tomb Raider games . Just click on Action Games in the left column and scroll down the list in the little box .

Click here for Tomb Raider : The Last Revalation

Since this thread has turned into a discussion about more than just one Tomb Raider game, I have changed the title of the thread to a more general one. This way, any Tomb Raider game can be addressed in this thread.

So, feel free to post any Tomb Raider questions, problems, or discussion here.

Hi Robert & hugh, I just bought a used addition of TR Last Revelation over the weekend and look forward to playing after I finish TR4.

I am now in Level 7 of TR4 at the "timed sequences"... don't like time parts because I have a tendency to make Lara run in circles when I try to go to fast! Jumping over those little pipes in the tunnels are harder than they look.

I'm looking forward to more discussions with you all now that Friedmonky has made my thread into a discussion for all TR games! smile bravo bravo thumbsup

I must confess that I have never played any of the Tomb Raider games. I am interested to hear peoples thoughts on them as far as which is considered the best/worst, do the early ones play on XP, etc. All thoughts and opinions welcome! Let's get this thread kickin'! lol

Thanks,

Hey Gerry ,

There should be a button/key that will make Lara roll and come up facing in the opposite direction , it works faster than trying to turn her around . thumbsup

Hi Robert, You are right Lara can roll to change her direction. If you press the up arrow key at the same time as the down arrow she will roll and change direction.

But I still have trouble in the timed parts because I try and rush and Lara runs zig zag down the halls. I just need to keep calm and think this is not a timed sequence and maybe then I will do better. smile woozy smile

Oh and by the way the name of the TR I got used the other day is titled The Last Revelation. Is that one of the TR Chronicles? think

My memory is a bit fuzzy as it's been years since I played it , but all of the Tomb Raider games with the exception of Angel of Darkness should be very stable . There is an install patch for them , but as you are already playing TR4 without any trouble I don't think you would need it . Click on the gold colored title in my above post to link to the page where you can read about the game . Also , look on the previous page of this thread where I responded to Rusty and check out that link as well .

And yes !! don't panic with the timed puzzles as you can always try again if you don't make it . thumbsup

Hi Robert, I will check out the links you mentioned. Thanks.

I try to keep calm in the timed events but it doesn't always work.

I will have to try and find the Chronicles. Are there lots of timed parts in the Chronicles? think

I've been doing very well with the underwater swimming as long as I know where I am going.

But pulling levers underwater is still tricky for me. I never seem to be able to line up to pull the lever on the first pass. Is there a trick to getting Lara lined up fast?

Ingie, even with a saved game I feel my heart start to pound when I know it's timed! eek eek

I have just started Level 10 in TR2 next will be the Gold Levels. Does any one know what to expect in these bonus levels? Thanks think smile

I always aim Lara to arrive at the middle of the switch, then she'll float to the right location (if my aim is a bit out of place) quite quickly.

Thanks gremlin. I will try and position Lara in the middle of a switch at my next water lever. I have now progressed to level 11 in TR2. I found level 10 and the underwater part on the ship a challenge to say the least.

The Level I just started is in Tibet and it is really quite a contrast to the caves and underwater environment of the previous level. Nice change! happydance

Your welcome Gerry wave

It sounds like your having a lot of fun with this one . You'll probably want to play all the rest of the Tomb Raider games now .

If my memory serves me , in TR 4 and Chronicles , you can save your progress anywhere .

I could save anywhere in all tr's. In water, if u r a little away from the lever, keeping the action key depressed will make Lara float towards the lever.

In the Playstation 1 versions of the older games , you had to find and pick up these blue jewel things to use to save your game .

Good Morning Robert, The next TR is due out next year so maybe by then I will have purchased all the TR games so I will be well prepared for the new one!

I never thought I would enjoy action games like the TR series. I did play Broken Sword Sleeping Dragon first and I had fun with that too.

bravo wave

OH, that was fun. Lara would just step aside and leave the monks to fight with mercenaries. Robert, you are right. For PS2, I did hear that you can't save anywhere you want. I thought you were talkin about PC versions.

Hi Hugh wave

I think it was just TR 1 and 2 that had limited saves . TR 3,4 and 5 ( PS1 )and TR AOD ( PS2 ) allows you to save anywhere . smile

Are you gonna play TR Legend with us when it comes out ?

Yer, I'de love to, Robert. smile . Robert, wasn't that green crystal in TR3 the save spot for PS2? or u could save it anywhere? I haven't played PS2 version but someone told me that the green crystal was the save point. Not sure though.

The only Tomb Raider game for the Playstation 2 is Angel of Darkness . All of the other Tomb Raider games are for the Playstation 1 . I think the blue crystal was only in the first 2 games .I could be wrong since my memory is a bit fuzzy after a few years .

Oh, ya playstation 1 sorry. In the PC version of tr3 there was a crystal and it used to replenish Lara's health. My friend told me that it was a save point in PS version.

At Last I finished TR2 and am now going to start TR2 Gold Levels! I ended up with over 1200 saved games! Just didn't trust myself so I saved after every jump and kill so I did not have to do it all over if I died a few steps further into the game!

The tip of my index finger on my left hand is soooo sore from constantly pressing the shift key and the Ctrl key!

Thanks you all for your help Robert and hugh! bravo wave

Just a little tidbit to add here. When I did the training Level for TR2 before actually starting the game, I was not able to get into Lara's Treasure Room.

But after completing the game I went back to the training Level and tried again. And guess what - I DID IT!!! I got into the Treasure Room! For me that was an incredible accomplishment!

I am not good at timed events but I think the experience playing both TR2 and TR Angel of Darkness really helped.

Next, after I finish the bonus levels in TR2 Gold, I will play TR Last Revelation so keep in touch because I am sure I will need help from the experts! smile woozy smile

Okay Guys I finished both TR2 and TR2 Gold!!! I even got all 3 secrets in the final level before killing "Big Bird"!! It was really really hard to get the last skull in the giant bird cage without getting stomped to death.

But I did it and was able to run back to the elevator and kill the "Big Bird from there! I am sooo happy I was able to complete this game!

I'm going to take a break for a couple days before I start TR Last Revelation. Keep in touch. laugh laugh

You're not kidding hugh! It took me many attempts before I was able to pick up the skull in the cage without being squished by the Bird!

The way it finally worked for me was I out ran Big Bird into the cage and immediately saved my game directly in front of the skull. When I went back in the game I bent down to pick up the Skull and Big Bird walked right over me.

I was then able to flip around and run like the devil back up the hall and into the elevator where I was able to kill the Bird from safety!

I loaded Last Revelation this morning and couldn't resist playing the training level. I am actually able to view the videos in this TR which makes the game a lot more interesting already. Graphics are so much better too!

But man is swinging from a rope hard to do! I couldn't tell when to let go and land on the ledge. I kept falling into the pool and running all the way back up to jump one more time! laugh happydance laugh

Hello to Robert, hugh and Friedmonkey. Are there any more games out there that are similar to the TR series that can be played on my PC?

What about Indiana Jones? Let me know. Thanks think thanks

I've asked that question a few times in the past and never really found a match for the TR games. The Indiana Jones ones just aren't anywhere near as smooth and enjoyable to play... IMHO!

Yea, I agree with u, gremlin. There's no match for tr games. Indy and infernal machine was however better than the new indy and the prince of persai 3d was also good in puzzles.

Thanks gremlin and hugh for the info on Indy games. If I need something to hold me over till the next TR comes out I will try finding the Indy games you mentioned in used games.

Right now I am about to start Level 11 in TR Last Revelation. I am getting better at swinging on the ropes. I could not believe after traversing across the room from one rope to another that I had to do it again later in level 10! That was hard! laugh laugh

I finished TR Last Revelation last night!!!! laugh happydance happydance laugh What a great game!! I really had fun with it. There were a few glitches but I was able to get past them with a little help from Stella's walkthru that explained the "bugs" and how to avoid them.

I am now ready for TR Chronicles. Has any body got some advice for me or some insight into chronicles? wave

Congratulations on finishing such a great game. Chronicles is not as long as "the last revalation" but it's a great sequel. It's Robert's favourite. I don't know where he is nowadays.

I just started TR Chronicles today and did my first walk on the tightrope! That feels a bit strange. I found myself leaning to the side like Lara and of course fell off a few times before I got the hang of it.

I'm glad to hear Chronicles is a great game! Thanks popcorneater and hugh! bravo bravo

Hi Robert! I was beginning to wonder where you were. Glad to have you back. wave laugh wave

I'm in Level 4 The Base and I am having some difficulty with the snipers because they won't show themselves unless I stand out in the open and they get me every time!

I am really enjoying Chronicles. Had fun with the tightrope and I'm getting better about not leaning along with Lara as I cross the rope! laugh

I also saw Divine Divinity at CompUSA over the weekend. Other Boomers said it would be a good game for my first RPG so I am going back there Wednesday and buy it! It sounds like a fun game to me.

What's your opinion Robert? think

Hi Gerry wave

I'm really not one to give an opinion as I'm not a big RPG fan , but maybe you'll like it though . smile

Robert I just finished TR Chronicles!!! Amen to that!!!

happydance happydance bravo The last level was soooo hard. I ran out of ammo more then once and had to go back to a saved game. Also ran into a few bugs in the last level but overall it was a fantastic game!!

I am looking forward to the nextTR. Oh by the way I saw TR3 at Best Buy and was wondering what you thought of TR3? Is it as good as the other TR games? Let me know. Thanks.

popcorneater I did pick up DD yesterday and also one for my sister in Seattle so we can try our first RPG together!

TR3 is definitely as good as the others, IMHO. The series didn't start going downhill until Angel of Darkness. laugh

Since you have Chronicles, if you install the level editor that comes with it, you can play hundreds of free custom levels that are downloadable, a lot of which are better that the retail games. One of the best sites is here:

I'm so glad you're enjoying these games..lots of folks that like these also seem to enjoy the
Thief series..not sure they're anything alike from what I played of Thief..so many moons ago.
Never played the Tomb Raider games so can't compare.
Is Indy Jones similar?

Hi Gerry wave

Congrats on beating Chronicles . Tomb Raider 3 is also very good . With the exception of Angel of Darkness , ALL the Tomb Raider games are excellent .

I thought Angel of Darkness was a good game despite all the bugs it had . The story was very compelling and kept me engaged in the game despite the buggy gameplay ( I just had to find out what was going to happen )

Ingie wave The only Indiana Jones game I've played was Emperor's Tomb for the PS2 . I thought it was a great game . Somewhat similar to TR in that there are alot of jumping puzzles and figuring out how to get through locked doors and stuff . However , it had alot of melee combat , something you don't see in the TR games ( except AOD ).

popcorneater what is the Thief series? I've not heard of it before.

The only problem you have now Gerry, is figuring out how to get TR1 to run on a modern (read: running Win XP) computer. There are sites out there that describe how to do it, but I've never managed it yet, and I'm not exactly a noobie when it comes to computers!
