The problem concerns the Scorpion traps. I loved using that the first time I played. Now I just cannot find the skill in the skill choices.

Have put a couple of points in Deadly Gift and I have three scorpion traps in my inventory. My little grey cells tell me I'm on the right track - but as my little grey cells are decreasing and need to e-mail each other to keep in touch (I thought the noise they were making was tinitus) I don't rely on them 100%.

Can you tell me if I am on the right road, please?

Yea, I know those little gray cells..I have 19 left and I'm holding onto them...

You'll find that skill under the Survivor Path..and I'm not sure, deadly gift may be it..but I think it's in the upper left hand corner of the skill path..and has a trap on it.

Because of your love for them when you first played, last time I played I used them all the time, so much fun after figuring out how to use them..

I have DD on board..what are you playing as this time??

When I make deadly gift my active spell it shows my scorpion traps and trail bombs. I then just pick the one I want to use and where I want to use it. Deadly gift is a survivor spell. Top left second row. I hope this helps. I also love the scorpion traps. They save my life often.

I never did get use to the bombs..I seemed to manage blowing myself up instead of the enemy
..but ahh, those scorpion traps are a life saver indeed..heavy, but very useful.

Many thanks to everyone - my half a dozen remaining grey cells seem to agree - sooooo off I go to tackle my mail then load the game. Need the scorpions to deal with the hordes when I dispatch Thelyron to day. Am right at his door and I'm level 7 so think I should have those scorpions working.

It is so enjoyable playing D.D. again - better than last time. Think it was my first RPG game.
Have been reading the thread we had running then and realise what a wimp I was

I'm playing as a Mage and am upto a level 11.At the moment I am just about finished with the sewer. Then back to the Abbey and Church. They are both giving me a fit. This is my first RGP. I just bought Beyond Divinity.

Wow Connie Mage is hard to start with..I suggest holding off on the Abby until you're a few levels higher..it's tough.

I think DD has been the first RPG for so many of us..it holds fond memories and it's still enjoyable!

Oh my gosh Connie, I didn't ever try to go to the Abbey before I was around level 20. In the game it is considerably easier to go east rather than north first. Sounds like you're a born RPGer! Just remember to not go to the Castle, no matter what the game tells you, because once you do it kicks in the main game, and you miss the fun of stuff to do before you get to that point. Mainly it takes away your teleporters .
Being your first RPG, how are you enjoying it, and what don't you like? Is there anything you don't understand?

Thanks for all the tips. I am really enjoying the game. I don't even mind all the times I die as I save very often. I like that I only have to control one person as this is my first game of this type. I have hit a few spots where I didn't know what to do. When I get stuck I come here and read all the posts I can find. I also go to the Larien forums sometimes. Everyone here has been so helpful and made this a great first experience. I will stay away from the castle and wait to go back to the Abbey until I gain more levels. My son who is a big RPG player also said the Mage was not the best to start out with. Next time I'll try the fighter. Thanks again for all the tips.

I've been kicking around the Farmlands and Ars Magicana most of the time, determined to reach level 11 before tackling anything serious. Can now use the scorpion traps so will be venturing further tomorrow.

Suddenly found The Abbey by mistake and backed away quickly. When I clear that I'll me moving in as I did last time - have booked my rooms. Those right near the door to the teleporter

Am eager to change my lodgings as Gregar Brock died right beside my bed and I can't move the body The W/T said he could not come above ground without dying but assured us he could come back to my house when I need to rest. It just didn't work that way

One strange thing - haven't collected many quests to date.

Connie, I think the warrior is the easiest, because he has a dazzling special move. But for me, I wouldn't have half the fun if I couldn't be a mage.

Alice Love the special rooms comment! And Ingie is still after Geoff, huh? Which quests have you received - did you get the ones from the military guy? A lot of the other ones you'll just find yourself stumbling across.

Nickie, the only quests I've received are mainly those which help the game through Aleroth and the catacombs. Have one to find a small boy, and another to avenge the boy killed by trolls.

Oh, yes, have to find the sorce of the plague and bad harvest, and get an escort for the healers. But those two are main stream.

Hi all - think I have made a huge mistake.

Didn't realize 'The Barracks' was, in fact, Stormfest Castle - please tell me it isn't

When I was told to find an escort for the healers, with the last time I played this game in my mind it registered as go to Captain Mitox and I wasn'r ready for his quests at that time (or now). So I pottered around to get some experience and landed up at the Dwaven Inn and met the other Marked One. So was told Zandalor was at the castle. Now I can't find the Barracks.

At the moment the world map is annoying - I open up large areas but when I return they have to be opened up again - this didn't happen the first time I played D.D. Any ideas?

Whatever - I'm ready for bed.

The "invitation" will actually state to "Stormfist Castle"....the barricks is where you'll meet with

Ingie, I was only playing for half an hour yesterday. Have found the barracks and am about to enter the cave to get a key for the cellars at Blue Boar Inn.

Spent most of that 30 minutes trudging back to the barracks to pick up my pyramid - why did I think of you on that journey. It is the first time it has happened to me.

Got killed by the vampire when I released the boy.

Replayed - released two scorpions before opening the coffin. They dispatched the vampire before I even knew she had appeared! Why didn't I think of that before?

My sister and I have DD but it is our first rpg. We started it once but left it because we were uncertain as to what we are suppose to do right at the beginning. How do you know which is the best person to "play" as a beginner and what are you suppose to be doing once you start the game?

There really is no right or wrong way to start..but the general rule for RPG is a mage is harder at first, quite weak and until he/she levels up; it is difficult; but oh boy once they level.

The first time for me was this game and I choose a thief; er...survivor. And managed quite well.
This game allows you to go into the other skill paths to pick up and learn those skills as well..so it's not like you're "locked" into that role and can't play around with other roles.
I played as a Warrior once, by far the easiest to choose..much stronger and winning all fights at first.
Tried the mage, which was fun, but I also in reality was more a battle mage, I like a nice sword.
I suggest, start one of each character and play around a bit and see which character fits you..it's well worth the time and very interesting.

What Popcorn said. I do think playing as a warrior is easiest, mainly because of the "special move" he has, but for me it wasn't half as much fun as the mage. That's just me though. Luckily you can use skills from all three disciplines, so you can use say, pickpocket from the survivor stuff etc. as you go along in the game, even if you are a warrior or a mage. You get to choose your skills as you progress in experience, so no one character is likely to be like another.
How you start : after picking your character, when you can actually play, you need to investigate the town you're in, talking to everyone, and moving anything you can, picking up everything that isn't nailed down. It's non-linear to a large degree, and there are quests (mini-adventures) to accomplish right in the beginning, which will make your character improve. Go into all the houses, look for trap doors. Wear a pan on your head if you want to. And remember the RPG golden rule: Save, save, save.

The advice you have been given by Nickie and Ingie is good. Am playing for the second time. As I wanted to get stronger before entering the catacombs I sold all the food I'd found to George, bought a cheap weapon, and went outside to clear the area around Aleroth of orcs. This increased my experience and also I picked up goodies to sell and a little gold.

Something I did not know until a few days ago (!) that having food in the inventory is useful to use instead of potions when running short of health.

Postscript.

One gets so wrapped up in the game it is so easy to forget to save. Often I have found myself going over large areas to get back to where I was killed. Frustrating, to say the least.

This is going to sound silly but how do you get stronger? Do all the characters talk to you and can you actually talk back? I had played a little and found my character didn't always "talk" I just got the conversation in closed caption - no sound.

Not silly at all, KS. You get stronger by completing quests and killing monsters. In the very beginning you have several quests you can do, like heal the wounded soldier, get a plant from a garden (I would suggest you ask rather than steal it, LOL).
There is so much dialogue in the game that a lot of it is only captioned, rather than spoken out loud. Kind of strange, but the developers were trying to keep the system specs down so more people could play it.

Hi - can anyone tell me where I can find A Bag of Holding, please? Am carrying this enormous bed around in my inventory, doesn't weigh anything but takes up a heck of a lot of room. Also - am I correct in thinking it has to be dragged out of the inventory to use?

I've found that when I revisit an area where I'd released scorpions they are still around and are busy knocking off other baddies - they leave a lot of goodies to pick up

Threads it's a book that you need to put the bed into. I think it's in Rob's room in the Thieve's Guild.
Just drag the bed into the book and you will always have a bed when you need it.

Thanks Texaslady! Every time I've played I've just left the big bed in inventory, because it cracks me up. I think if I'm not mistaken that I just had to click on it to use it though.

same here, never knew I had a holding book..just left it in inventory..I agree with the having to click on to use the bed though..other wise, well how would the game know you wanted to take a little snooze..

I wanted that book so badly that I went back to get it. But it isn't necessary. You can pile tons of stuff on that bed and it's fine where it is......until you need to sleep. I loved clicking on the bed and taking a snooze in the middle of the ork camp. They aren't all that bright are they?

texaslady! There's one cute part in the game that is easily missed out on - around the first town ,in the woods to the east or southeast, the orcs lay a trail of gold. If you follow it and pick up the gold as you go, it puts you right in the middle of their camp, and they chortle and dance and say "Stupid human!"

Yes, been there and done that......but only once. I'm not that stupid!
I just waited and paid them back when I was strong and had some cool powers like freeze, my personal favorite. I loved hacking at the popsicles.

I always thought the orcs were a little polite about the whole thing..they don't disturb your sleeping, they don't interrupt if you're talking, and they don't interfere with your opening a trunk or chest..

Can someone please tell me qhere I get the quest for the Axe Of Stone.

Also I have a problem obtaining the Dwarven teleporter scroll. I keep going back to the Inn but the dwarf I need isn't there and no scroll left on a table. As I haven't yet talked to the man I should not have any idea where he was taking it. Please, have I gone wrong somewhere or has the correct time for this sequence not arrived. (I robbed all the rooms while I was there - and the other Divine One is still waiting for me to find Zandalor).

One thing I never did find when I first played this game (the is the second time)was a complete and useful walk-through. And I still can't.

Must dash - a lot of jobs to do before bedtime.

Alice, I think depending upon how you played the game, you may or may not be able to find the scroll at the Dwarven Bread Inn. But you can find one in the mayors house in the Dwarven village.
This is the site that Ana referred me to when I played this game.

I know that you have to choose specific dialogue with the Dwarf who offers you a gem (you have to refuse the offer) to get him to commend you, then he leaves and you can pick up the scroll.

Failing that, go with Sue's advice and look for it in the Mayor's house

Since this is a non-linear game, where you can go where you want and do quests in any order, most walkthroughs give you info organized by areas of the game. Try PLANET DIVINITY for lots of good info

Schwab35 - I think I caught him out, but when I looted all the rooms a dog tried to attack me and I killed it - So I'm not the flavour of the month in that quarter

Well, I now have the Dwarven Teleporter scroll. I stole it

The Mayor was so drunk he didn't make sense and the only dialogue I was given was "Farewell". So my character just walked into his room and lifted the scroll from the table, walked out in front of him and activated the teleporter. My reputation didn't alter

The Succubus has just invited me to catch her - but my bed is more inviting

Hi - is there another place to obtain a spare barrel of Buad's Tea other than the pharmacist's in Verdistis, please. I broke two at the time of my visit, which was a long, long time ago, and now the third had exploded. So cannot get a limb from the talking tree.

I got the limb without killing it Threads. Did you already anger him? I had to go to tjhe tree to get something for the alchemist and I remember the tree let me have a branch. You just cannot approach the tree more than two times.

Ana, I finished the game last evening. Now wondering what to re-play while we wait for Oblivion to go gold.

Think I enjoyed playing D.D.the second time more than I did the first. Certainly encountered many different monsters and baddies than the first time round. And the graphics appeared to be better, possibly because of obtaining a better computer since then.
