I have a Windows ME computer, 733PC Intel 733MHz Pentium 111 Processor and Motherboard 64MB menory module SoundBlaster AudioPCI 128D, 56K PCI Voice Modem, upgraded the color card to 32
I tried to read installation, but can't get any where. I tried to use my Windows add/unstall programs, but a card comes up stating that it can't read it, thus the program won't work. How do I go about installing the older program on my newer computer. I am not very computer orientated. What process do I use to install this on my CD Drive. I can't see the Moon folder, and I can't get very far to see how to install this program. Any help will be much appreciated! Would appreciate step by step method of installation process of this game if possibe?
Thanks, Linda

Try this page and see if it helps, Linda. Many of the Tex Murphy games have troubles with WindowsME, apparently. This will show you how to run the game in DOS.

......or this page Found that by searching Google - most times, Google will throw up answers to all your problems. You have to actually install the game first, which shouldn't present any problems - I have played UAKM on Windows ME before.

Hi BacardiJim, I tried the main page, but it didn't have that page for installation of the game or problems. I did eventually install the game, but it said that the program wouldn't run with Windows running. How can you turn off Windows, without turning off the computer? Please, any advice would help!
Thanks, Linda

Look at the last part of that link I sent you. You need to right-click on the game exe (I think it's called moon.exe) and then go to Properties. Find the checkbox that says something like "Make this DOS game ignore the fact that Windows is running."

Well, I tried several ways to install it, but when it said to type moon to play the game, I couldn't type it. There was an error message with my MSDOS. I tried the other way to install it by tex3, it wouldn't install. I tried the way BarcardiJim suggested, and it wouldn't run. Any other suggestions woould be much appreciated!
I also installed Pandora Directive on my computer. But when I hit the launcher, to play the game. it wouldn't run! What should I try next?
Thanks,
Linda

Anthony, Where would I find that GB Staff Review for UAKM on installation of the game. BarcardiJim mentioned that Overseer couldn't be installed on his machine either. I have ordered that game and I sure hope that I can install it. Do you know why that on Pandora Directive game, the launch icon doesn't work? I installed the game, and marked, to always close Windows when running the game.
Any other suggestions would be much appreciated!

Nononono.... I had a completely different problem with Overseer. It would install and play, but the videos were extremely choppy and out of synch. The game documentation said this was because the game is designed to be played using a only select few DVD playing softwares, all of which were either unavailable to me or were not free.

Originally posted by Anthony: As for Pandora Directive and Overseer, I have not yet played these games so I cannot help you. However, unlike UAKM, I do not believe they are DOS games. Actually it's only Overseer that is the Windows game. UAKM and Pandora Directive are both DOS based, thought they can be run under Win 95/98/ME on some computers. The DVD version of Overseer causes problems for most people because of the compression scheme they used for the videos. But the CD version is usually compatible, though the videos don't look as good. That's why the retail version of Overseer included both DVD and CD versions of the game.
