I am trying to replay Cydonia (pre Lightbringer - the 5 CD ROM set is marked Cydonia) and it does not seem to like my new W98 PC. I used to run a W98 450MHz machine, but the new one is 2GHz.
The problem I get is that the game will "freeze in motion" - the cursor moves to random positions and the scene rotates continuously in the direction dictated by the cursor.
No keyboard entries can be input, and the mouse can do nothing. Sometimes the cursor will move of its own accord to a new position, whereupon the scene rotates according to the new position.
My only recourse seems to be to turn off the PC and start again, which seems a fairly futile exercise to me - a bit like nailing jelly to the ceiling.

Anybody out there remember this old game, and could offer me any advice?

My guess is that it's a "fast computer" problem.
Try reducing audio and video acceleration.
If that doesn't work, try a CPU slowdown program. Turbo is free, but there are others that will run more smoothly.

Jenny100,

Slowing down the video acceleration seems to have done the trick, and the game is currently running OK.

Thanks again,

petert

Is Cydonia an earlier version of Lightbringer?

Thanks

Yes.
It's one more game where Dreamcatcher changed the game when they published it.

The name Cydonia makes more sense to me, since the game takes place mostly on Mars.
