Had a bad day today, and yesterday, and all last week so pardon me for asking....whats the question? lol

If it's "How do you upgrade your Video Card?", I can't help. I use ATI V C's and have had next to no trouble getting games to run.

But at least I bumped you back to the top of the post! laugh

I didn't do it......and if I did I'm not guilty!

Here's some good info on the relative performance of different video cards:
http://www20.graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20041004/index.html

Note that AGP slots come in 1X, 2X, 4X, and 8X speeds. You need a really fast CPU and AGP slot to really get the most out of the fastest (and most expensive) video cards. For an older machine, I wouldn't look for anything above a midrange video card. I'd probably look for something like a Radeon 9600 Pro or NVidea 6600 card, though you should be able to get by with less. Of the two, the NVidea 6600 is one of the best values around right now. The only potential problem is it isn't specifically listed as being supported in the Myst Revelation documentation. The highest NVidea cards listed are the FX series, and here the Radeon is a much better choice. I didn't see any updates on this info on Ubisoft's website www.support.ubi.com .

For what it's worth, I've been playing Myst Revelation on an Athlon 2100+ machine (1733 Mhz) with a Radeon 9500 Pro and haven't had any problems.

Huhm, I just noticed that a 32 meg Geforce2 card is supposed to be supported, even though 64 meg of video RAM is recommended. Do you have a DVD drive? This game comes on DVD and you have to have a DVD drive to play it.

Here's some more good info I should have included earlier:
http://www.anandtech.com/guides/showdoc.aspx?i=2352

Note that an NVidea 6600 card will cost about $200, but a Radeon 9600 Pro can be had for about $100.

Is a Geforce 6600 going to fit into the same slot as a Geforce 2 MX?

Oops! I stand corrected. I based my previous statements on my experience of replacing the original GeForce2 Ultra video card in my nearly five year old computer with a GeForce2 MX 440 temporarily when it died, then with the current up to 8X Radeon 9500. I just checked the links Inferno was kind enough to provide and learned there's more to it than I thought. I just checked and Everest Home Edition will tell you what kind of AGP slot you have. Look under Motherboard : Chipset, then look at AGP properties. It tells me I have AGP version 2.0, which supports 1X, 2X, and 4X AGP cards. You can get this utility for free at www.lavalys.com .

Then I looked at what ATI had to say. This chart will tell you what their video cards are compatible with:
http://www.ati.com/support/faq/agpchart.html

About the most useful info I found at NVidia is that their current 8X (AGP 3.0) cards are backwards compatible to 4X.

You also need to know if your power supply can support a faster card. Do you know the wattage of the power supply?
