Ok so I got my new Dark Fall game, and I installed it with no problem. But when I go to play it the border of the game view is outside the borders of my monitor. The original has a feature to play the game in a window, but this one doesn't seem to have that. So do I have to change my display properties every time I play the game? I'm on Windows 98. I have a 15 inch monitor. Anyone? Thanks!

Cheryl

The game is preset to run only in 640x480 resolution and full screen. Even changing display properties won't alter that. Sounds like you'll need to manually adjust the size of your screen using the monitor controls.

Manually adjust the size of my screen using the monitor controls? Can you go into a little more detail on that? Thanks, Cheryl

Not without knowing the kind of monitor you have. Somewhere on your monitor there are controls to adjust the skew, horizontal and vertical stretch, brightness, contrast, etc. of your monitor.

You might find the bottom part of some little "wheels" sticking out below the bottom front edge of your monitor. If so, there will probably be little symbols, possibly words, indicating what they adjust. laugh

You're lucky if you find anything so user friendly as wheels to adjust a monitor.
Nowadays all I see are buttons and on-screen displays.

If your monitor came with a manual, you may need to consult that.

I'm surprised the game is larger than your screen though. Is it MUCH larger? Usually people have the opposite problem with the game having a border around it. If you've never run your desktop at 640x480, that might account for it being a LITTLE larger.

It seems that they changed the Dreamcatcher version of Dark Fall so it automatically adjusts your screen size. I don't know why it isn't working properly for you.

The game goes outside the border of the monitor when I have the screen set at 800x600, which is my default setting. I haven't tried resetting it to 640x480, so I don't know what will happen with that. It wouldn't make a difference except that the buttons to save the game are outside the border. I don't think changing the onscreen display will help. I'll try resetting my monitor to 640x480. I just hate to do it because it moves all my desktop icons around. I know, picky picky! laugh

If you have your 'puter set to 'LARGE ICONS' that 'messes up' (tech word lol )the display on several games, also can make the picture skew off the side.

Thanks Granny. That never occurred to me.

Cheyla, let us know if turning off "Large Icons" fixes the game.

I don't have my desktop set to large icons. I haven't had a chance to do anything with the game; I hope to try it again tonight. I don't want to get into it until I have a few hours to devote to it. :)As to that, I'll say, we love you Jonathan but couldn't you design the game so it doesn't require changing your entire setup in order to play it? I guess I could go back to playing the original version. That one can be played in a window. But if that's the case then I wasted almost 30.00 on the new version. grrrr...

Hrmmmm.... maybe I didn't phrase this properly. On our machines (both of them) the settings are 1024x768 as a rule. When you start the game, if "forces" the computer to a resolution of 600x480. This even happened on the XP computer, and XP hates that resolution. The resolution settings of your desktop are completely ignored. Changing those settings won't effect how the game looks.

At least that was our experience, cheyla.

I'm going to assume that is a glitch with my monitor and do some tweaking. No one else is having a problem with it so it must be me. One way or the other I'm playing the game tonight. Friday is a lousy night for TV. Thanks to all for the input, and an apology to Jonathan for implying that it is his doing.

There should be some kind of buttons or wheels on the front of your monitor for adjusting the size of the picture both horizontally and vertically, Cheryl. I guess this is as good a time as any to learn about them. lol

Cheryl, I should have said 'LARGE FONTS' instead of Large Icons.
Harvest, another independant game, is where I first learned about this fix from it's maker, Mike.

I figured it out. It was the monitor, and it's all better, and I've been playing the game and it's great!!! Thanks Jonathan!!!
