I bought the game, the 7th guest, and it came
without a booklet or instructions to load it.
It turns out it is a dos game. Can anyone
give me the command line to print in dos to
load it? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you have already installed the game, then you can play it by typing T7G on the cursor line.
If you are talking about installing the game, then need to know what OS you are running and if you have the floppy disks or the cd of this game.
Hope this helps, Joyce

I tried installing the game on a computer
running Windows XP, but of course that did
not work. So I tried it on an old computer
running Windows 98, and discovered it was a
DOS game. I have it in the cd format. But
I don't know the command line to use to install
it in DOS. Does anyone know the command line
that I need to type in to install it?

Thanks

I don't know where jenny is, as she usually has the correct way to do these things.
On my Win98, and the cd in the drive, I just went to My Computer, clicked on that and then clicked on the disk that is showing in the CD/Rom drive, then double clicked on the file called t7g.exe, and then followed the directions. You will have to use your direction keys to select the things in the boxes, but usually you can accept the recommended ones by just clicking yes. When the install is complete, you then go to DOS and type T7G to run. You have to go to DOS every time you want to play the game. To get out of the game, after you do an exit, then it sends you back to DOS, and you have to type EXIT to get back to Windows.
Hope this helps.
Otherwise Jenny can tell you how to use the Run feature and what to type in. I never bother with that.

I'd recommend you get the beta DirectX patch for 7th guest from
http://www.computerhope.com/download/games.htm

or
http://www.tbyte.com/downloads/

(the tbyte site seems to requre Internet Explorer to display correctly)

The t7gwin.zip includes an opening video and will take a lot longer to download, but t7gwinnv.zip will let you play the game too.

These patches allow you to play 7th Guest in Windows - even Windows XP. Inferno has directions for the XP setup on her website.

Jenny,
Will those patches write to my disk? Or do I have to install the game via DOS first, and then install the patch? I don't want to change my master disks.

they install to the folder "C:ID\T7G"

Follow my setup walkthrough for The 7th Guest
and it will run no problem. If you have any questions email me.

ps I'm sending you the patch now (the short one without the opening video.) If it works onyour system...then you can D/L the long version.

By "master disks" do you mean your game CD's? You couldn't write to those if you wanted to.

Use Inferno's setup. She's the XP eXPert.

Whoops blush blush blush
I have a lot of games on different media. I had thought that this one was also on 3.5 floppy. Some floppy patches are made to write to the disk since the game is played from the disk.
sorry about that.

Howdy Y'all:
I thought this would be a good place to put this update. There seems to be a problem with the "Cans" Puzzle in XP. Try resetting the Compatibility Mode to Win95 for the Viewer (.EXE). You won't lose any saved games by the way. Once I changed it to Win95 I was able to complete the puzzle.
