Hi flotsam -- I finally cheated and googled the clues. I've never even heard of this game.

Backpacker? Yes, it's obscure.

It is in Peter's PAGODA ....... and Quandary wrote a Review .....

Here's the Quandaryland review for anyone who's curious about the game. Backpacker is an odd sort of title -- I guess they were going after the wilderness-hiking-adventure-game-with-a-bit-of-action-playing niche audience. You know, the rugged, no-nonsense, athletic and brainy crowd.
