I too got a Microsoft Error message after the install when I went to launch the game. However my Sony Computer has been doing a strange thing. My DirectX is normally DirectX 9 but when I open my DirectX with "run" from the start menu it sometimes shows in the display tab DirectX 7! Well guess what after I got the Error message I check my DirectX and again it was displaying DirectX 7!
This is going to sound even stranger. To get it set back to DirectX 9 I open my Zuma Game, start to play, exit the game and when I run my DirectX 9 again it is back to 9. When I went back to Dead Reef it launched with no error message and is working fine.
I don't know why my DirectX keeps switching to a lower version but when I have trouble with a game I just run a check. Maybe some other Boomers with a Sony Computer should check their DirectX version it could be the reason they are getting a Microsoft Error message.

As the one who started this thread and then left on a 10-day business trip, I was amazed to come back and see how many others had had issues! Thanks to reading all of your posts, I was able to run CCleaner, install the game in Safe mode, and change my screen resolution, and it's playing just fine now. grin Seems like ridiculous lengths to have to go to to make up for sub-par game development and customer support, but I guess all's well that ends well. I hope the rest of you are able to get Dead Reefs up and running too, and that you let TAC and the developer know politely (as I did) about your experience. wink

This forum has made my life so much happier once again! Thought I was in for a night of frustration instead of game play when I ran into install problems with this game, but the advice in this thread did the trick.

Thanks everyone!

How to revive an ancient thread. There was a post about
Dead Reefs not loading in which one solution was to hit space bar and return alternately three times. When I would try to start the game I would get a blank white screen and have to shut the computer down to clear it. I hadn't bothered with it for a few weeks and for no particular reason I tried it again yesterday and hit the space bar and the return and it started.
as Jack Benny used to say, "Wellll". There is no explanation for this mysterious event that I know. I just thought I would pass it along.

Hi. I had the same problem.Game installed but would not launch. I turned the resolution down to 800x600. turned off the bloom. As soon as the black screen appears hit the space bar, and it works. I hope it works for you too. Sam

Someone was able to fix it by opening the folder its in and clicking settings and changing the resolution as well. It appears to have do with the resolution teh game wants to run at being more then your own resolution.
