Replaying Syberia and just got to thinking stuff about "people" in these games. For once wouldn't you love a character to sit down and have a hamburger (or in Kate Walkers case a yak burger)?
or I'd love one to say "excuse me I have to use the can."

To be honest aren't they all psychopaths? With all the pilfering and putting stuff in people's food to knock-em-out! But that's why I love them.

Well characters in most games are not "normal people" so they don't do what "normal people" do. Also it depends on what game you are playing, if you are playing an adventure game these things won't be added. But if you are paying a game like Sims which "simulates" life then attention is paid to such small details.

Some games do require you to eat e.g. Darkstone, and by your, I mean your character in the game. Oblivion is another game in which you can eat to heal etc. yourself. Most adventure games do not have this feature, but,to me, it would ne nice if they did.

I have just started playing Dreamfall (again). And I get irritated about that Zoe in this 3D game can't sit down on chairs and sofas, can't pick up anything, or look at anything.
But these are minor complaints. The biggest complaint about Dreamfall, at least from me, has always been the clunky controls.

Adventure gaming is fun smile

Karsten I have to laugh and shake my head for the poor game producers. Having to feed my characters irritates the stew out of me! rotfl

As far as having to supply your character with food, I remember that Betrayal at Krondor (an old Sierra RPG) required you to feed your characters a certain amount every game day. Travel over long distances was achieved by clicking on the map or the exit from the screen and then getting a screen that said something along the lines of "48 hours later, your party arrives at..." or "10 days later, your party arrives at..." But if you didn't have enough food for those ten days before you started the travel, your party would all be dead. It was pretty frustrating to a beginning RPG player like me.

cheers,
jasper

I'm just envious of the energy the characters have - running here, running there, running back to the first place and then to a third, etc. etc. etc. Only in rare instances do they ever sleep, eating is rare and absolutely no bathroom activities whatever. Makes me wonder how smelly Tex or Gabe are in real life!

I have to admit I like games where the characters take time out to eat or sleep, especially if they make it part of the game. Like in some of the Nancy Drew games, where she goes to bed at night then time advances.

That's one of the main reasons I don't like RPG games, Jasper--trying to keep track of a whole bunch of characters is bad enough, without having to worry about feeding them all!! eek

On the other hand, it must be the dark side of my very conventional character that just loves going around picking up everything that's not nailed down...blush

I have to agree i also like games where the time is actual real time and time passes and so on. Prisoner of war was like this where you had to escape from certain prison camps and you could move at any time you wanted and the clock advanced and it would change from day to night and from night to morning and so on.

That clock in ND games is a good way to manipulate what you do and what you don't have to do repeatedly - just take a 'nap' and advance the time to where you want/need to be for the next problem or clue...I enjoy it immensly - "different strokes for different folks" grin

Hi smile

If all adventure games were in "real time" I would never get to finish one !!

I can spend hours wandering round achieving nothing at all rotfl

Cheers.

I am with you there Mad!

But really, if every AG had to include human needs like eating, sleeping & 'relief' - wouldn't it be tedious & too much information? I just assume the characters have a packed lunch on them along with ladders, chain saws & whatever else they've got stuffed in their pockets & have a nap & other things between chapters when we're not looking! rotfl

I agree chrissie - given they need to find and then combine a toothpick, a rare herb and a nun just to open the mailbox, imagine how hard it would be to make a meal razz

I played a sims game-- for just a little while-- I got so tired of having them eat- go to the bathroom- and clean up dirty dishes- casuse flys started to swarm around-- I gave up--- seems like I could not do much else
