I love it! It's funny without being vulgar, and that kid, Maguire - I nearly laughed my self right out of the chair.

Tell me the subsequent games of the series are, at least, nearly as good?

sarahandus, I love the Broken Sword series and I think you will enjoy them all despite the fact the gameplay changes a bit in each one, but the humor remains. You are in for a treat!

The second Broken Sword is the same comedic fun that your having with the first. The 3rd is totally different. I haven't had a chance to play the 4th yet, but I think it's the same as the 3rd.
Hope that helps a bit.

I just finished 4--- and yes- I think you will like- 3 and 4.
I just love George's voice and the playfullness the charactors have between themselves--I am sure I will play -5-6-7-8.....
My only disapointment with 4 was - with 3 I was able to use my gamepad-on four I could not--I find the gamepad easier to use.--But my hat is off to the creators of Broken Sword--Funny-edgie-with out being-vulgar wave

Hi sarahandus,
I also bought the newer bundled version of Broken Sword I and 2 and totally enjoyed both games. I liked them so much I wanted to go on and on playing Broken Sword so I bought 3 and 4. Broken Sword 3 broke my heart, so to speak, as there was an action sequence that I could not beat. The really bad part about that was that it played in 3 parts (at least that was how it felt to me) and while I managed to do the first two parts I couldn't do the third, bad enough, but having to do the first 2 parts over and over to get to that third part just got too boring and frustrating so I quit before I went bonkers. I haven't had the courage (or heart) to try Broken Sword 4 yet. Maybe some day!

To love is to be happy with!

I loved Broken Sword 1 and 2, they were great fun to play. I haven't played 3 or 4 because of the keyboard controls - and I'm sure I remember reading that BS3 was a little buggy? Maybe the bugs have been ironed out by now with patches.

I have played 1 and 2 and they are in my keepers pile. 3 and 4 are in my BAAGS pile. I know you will have fun and I dont even remember any bugs. Enjoy!

Hi smile

For me, BS1 and BS2 are fantastic adventure games and I re-play them often happydance

BS3 and BS4 though were not for me at all. Far too many timed/action/sneaking elements. I was very disappointed frown

I guess it's always going to be a case of "taste it and see" grin

Cheers.

sierramindy -- BS4 does not have the action-that BS3 did. I played 3 with my gamepad-- I would have had trouble just using the keypad-- that is what worried me with BS4-- since I could not use the gamepad- but--there was no real hard to finish- timed fight or flight-- wave

edit--- hmmm- guess Mad doesn't agree with me rotfl

There are a few timed scenes- where you have to
Click to reveal..
defuse a bomb and another to figure out a PDA connection on the web that is timed-
but those were not running or fighting

Well folks, you just saved me some money. I will definitely not buy BS3. and maybe not 4 either. I don't have what it takes for timed puzzles or anything else that requires dexterity. I don't seem to do well in the sneaking department either. Had to give up on Secrets of De Vince because I couldn't get past the guard.

However ! & 2 can keep me entertained a long time.

Thanks everyone,

Most likely it is just me, I really like BS1&2 with 3 I got through it in spite of the action scenes which I hated. Even with that it was a great game. But 4? well like I said it must be me. They dropped the keyboard and went back to point and click a definate plus. There was one timed puzzle but it was not bad, however, I never did warm up to the game and not sure why. It seems to be missing something, not sure what. At this point I have reached the cellar of the vatican where the angel heads are. No matter what I do I cannot get the head to respond right in reaction to those sand hour glasses.

I have the US cd version. Now I know I am close to the end point of the game. I only reached this puzzle a day or so ago and after getting frustrated I let it sit. I may just nuke it and forget it. It is not this stall point that is my complaint. After loading it up over a month ago I have to force myself to continue for a bit. Most games I attack and stay with them and they usually take 3-4 days to finish. With this one I cannot generate any enthusiasm. Hard to explain considering how much I liked the first three. Notice I did not ask for a save at a point following the angel puzzle. Of course I'd take one but it seems I have reached a point of So What! Anybody else have this response to BS4?

Ummm....well, yeah. I think for me it's something to do with George. In Broken Sword 4, he hardly seems heroic anymore. He's even lost some of that goofy semi-competence that made him so charming.

Becky you hit on something with your comment. Also the usual give and take with Nikki is not there either. Thinking back Nikki was the brains of the operation. George was the likable reluctant hero who got in his own way at times and it was Nikki who got him focused. There is almost none of that in BS4 and George seems to be without any passion in this game. All in all it leaves me not caring if I finish this game at all. If I do, it would be just to get it over with. The purpose of playing it is to have fun. I suppose this is what happens when you have three stellar games and then phone one in.

Well, you do want your characters to evolve from game to game, not stay exactly the same. George has been in these "treasure hunting" situations often enough by now that you might expect some of the loveable incompetence to wear off. It's okay if he actually starts to get really good at this. lol But I don't like the idea that he's becoming almost as manipulative as the bad guys.

Also, I am not a "stealth challenge" gamer, so putting in stealth sequences slows any game way down for me.

Hi,
I just got the bundled BS 1 & 2 I had them seperately for the older computer, but liked them so well wanted to have them to play again on this new one. BS3 would have been better if the two very hard timed sequences, had been either left out or given us much more time. BS4 lost some feel of the first two games but would still buy a BS5,6,ect. I must admit I'm not good with stealth, either so---
but you will love BS1&2

I have gotten stuck in Syria, but think I will just go back and listen to Allmet wail about the lost fare. It cracks me up every time I hear him. In fact the conversations are wonderful, love them in spite of the fact I don't like to deal with conversations, I want to get on with the exploration - usually.

oldmariner, I have found several games I just can't get interested in too. It seems it's getting to be more common with the new games that have tried too hard to appeal to a wider group of gamers.

bs-4 it took me some time but i found it to be a very good game..the part with the hour glasses had me stumped to , but just keep at it ... its not a timed part..so you can just take your time ,i think i will try and get bs-1&2and try those ,they sound good.i don't like keyboard games..this is a fun game but not up to par with barrow hill.

I have finished BS1 and loved every minute of it, although the end had a rushed feeling to it. BS1 will definitely be on my favorite games list.
However after starting BS2 - well it just didn't seem to have the charm. 30 minutes into the game and I quit. may or may not ever try again. The fact that the story involved South American culture did have something to do with it. I must have read too many Inca/Aztec/Mayan histories at an impressionable age, just can't abide stories about them now.

In the first game you could show just about everything in your inventory to everyone and get some funny reply. I was disappointed that the second game didn't have that. Otherwise I enjoyed the first two games, played them twice each. I haven't played 3 or 4.

If you liked 3 and 4, you will love 1 and 2! I think they went downhill, so you are in for a treat.

Maybe yes, maybe no. If one liked the action parts of Broken Sword 3, the first 2 games might seem rather tame in comparison. Just the reverse reaction of liking 1 and 2 because there was no real action there and disliking 3 because there was.
