Doesn't mention adventure games specifically, but this article does describe a familiar trend -- older gamers realizing how much fun gaming can be. (Link may require registration.)

A quote from the article:

[quote]PopCap Games in Seattle, the maker of the diversions so popular at St. Mary, says its games have been downloaded more than 200 million times since the company was founded in 2000. A spokesman said that the company was stunned by results of a customer survey last year: 71 percent of its players were older than 40, 47 percent were older than 50, and 76 percent of PopCap players were women.

It turns out that older users not only play video games more often than their younger counterparts but also spend more time playing per session. Pogo.com is a Web site that offers

Thank you for posting this article Becky. I wonder if the game makers and sellers will take this on board. Before I retired I loved adventure games because they helped to forget the tedium of work. Now they help to keep my brain alive! The only problem is arthritis in my fingers that makes timed problems a real problem. That said, I don't think your age should make any difference. I've been playing for over 10 years, The Dig was the first and the games just get better and better.

Has any one seen any little gray cells around as I think I've lost some? Reward for finder.

I agree with Mad!! I'll be 78 in a couple of months and I spend a great deal of time on the computer with my games. Between that a music my brain should last another 25 years (or more)!!

I myself is in this oldies group and I really enjoy playing the adventure games. I also found these hide and seek games makes me more in tune with my surroundings in adventure games and found I pick up on clues faster. This is a great article really enjoying seeing so many great things shared on Game Boomers. The games just get better and more fun to play. I like the fact in adventure games they make you feel like your there doing all the chores but, with great satisfaction in the end. Thank you Becky for sharing.

I probably shouldn't comment on this. I am 74 and know nothing about any of this stuff. All I am sure of is when my wife goes past she says, "Oh, you're playing a game. As if.

This thread is wonderful. I love folks who agree with me. I will be 75 next month and have loved my games since I joined Boomers in 2001. I swear it keeps my brain alive because it's hard for me to find folks I can converse with.
Even though I have to use walkthroughs and hints, I can solve some puzzles and get a lot of practice following directions and concentrating.

I completely agree with all said. Gaming is great for the brain, keeps "the little gray cells" working. Some of the puzzles prove a little to much for me sometimes, but help is "just around the corner at GB". I love my games they keep me alert, young and "on my toes". It is certainly better than setting and watching T.V. all day. thumbsup

Hi all: I have truly enjoyed all of your comments and agree totally. My husband & I thorougly enjoy our computer games. I am getting ready to order "Secrets of Atlantis: Sacred Legacy" this afternoon! Along with "Adventure" games my favorites are the "Hidden Object" and "Bricks" type--much fun is had with all!! I relate to "bouv mama" in regards to using walkthroughs and hints!

Happy Gaming!

Instead of the Mom Test, surely they should now be applying the Grandmom Test??

What exactly are games like Zuma? I have always avoided games like that. I have no clue.
Thanks for posting the article Becky. A fun read!

A very informative article Becky, thanks for bringing it to my attention.

JB, Zuma is a "shoot 'em up" match three game of sorts. You get a string of objects and must shoot matches of 3 or more so they don't reach the exit. My favorite like this is Birds on a Wire! I love the sound effects. I'm no good at it but I love to keep trying.

Good article Becky; I fit into that over 60 genre and have no regrets about being game-addicted.

JB, you can try out any of those games like Zuma (Luxor is another one) and other games like Jewel Quest (matching games) for free for one hour.

In the past, I had wondered what people saw in these games, not ever having tried one myself. Or I thought maybe they were for people who weren't "serious" gamers. That may be true for some, but I'm here to tell you that since then I totally understand the appeal and have gotten hopelessly addicted to some of them myself. And they are GREAT for those times when you just want to sit and relax and play a game for a while but don't have the time or the energy to get into anything more lengthy.

I've been playing them now on and off ever since I tried Luxor and Zuma for the first time. The only downside is that it opened up another whole area of game buying for me. laugh

:-D That's cool Becky. I can't truly say I'm an old gamer though, heh. Grats to all of those who are, and good luck.
