I'd rather stick toothpicks under my fingernails, than deal with stealth in a game. Does that sum it up well enough? Ana

You got it dragon! I'll leave the box in the corner in case anyone else needs them. I only use tea tree oil toothpicks so no worry about infection setting in. Ana

Stealth? You mean like in Undercover Operation Wintersun? I did not succeed at it on my own, borrowed a saved game from texaslady and Mag - now when it was John's turn to sneak around, I found he could stand forever in the light and those guards did not come near him or see him, blind as bats, that's the kind of stealth I like and it's worse when one is on a timer/clock too like in some games I can't remember which ones now. I don't mind stealth when there is an obvious pattern to the bad guys that I can discern and use against them. It also helps if the hiding spots make sense.
I hate it when the bad guys' movement are occasionally random so I get busted in a spot where I didn't the other 20 times I tried.

If the stealth is not too difficult then I don't mind so much. It's only when there are penalties and Game Over moments just because you put your right foot out when you should have kept it in, etc etc, that I become ever so slightly fed up.

I sometimes really go for first-person stealth in ACTION GAMES. I like it because I can go at my own pace (rather than have combatants and monsters attacking me constantly), and because I can avoid confrontation. BUT IN AN ADVENTURE GAME--- Now that's a DIFFERENT story altogether! In an Adventure game the stealth puzzles are often like timed sequences-- just there to raise my blood pressure and test my frustration limit. SO... I guess I should keep my share of the toothpicks with my Adventure games!

OK, I'll do it. The stealth sequences in BS3 were well done and necessary to the story and I liked them very much. The ones in Dreamfall were not as good but were OK and also fit the story. Certainly one has to expect this kind of thing in many plot lines - it's an adventure game, after all. Remember, the Beckster asked some one to do it and I'm a gentleman, so all rotten tomatoes go her way.

Thank you, Gentleman Ray! Er...were you sincere, though? I mean, you did enjoy the stealth sequnces you mentioned, and aren't just saying so to fulfil my request?

Actually, I really meant it. You helped since I've been following this thread and was leery of saying anything lest I have toothpicks....well, you know.
A strange thing was the stealth stuff in 80 Days. The first one you had was the most challenging and the one I like the best. After that, they were nothing.

Well, I have one word for stealth...no! No! nonononono! Wait...did I mention no? I'm with nickie, I hate in all genres. It doesn't help the game for me at all. It's just a big giant irritation! I'll take my toothpicks please!! Maybe next time I'll open up a little more about my feelings!

I don't mind stealth sequences in adventure games, if & when they are necessary to drive the story forward or built into the game's premise. In his blog over at adventuregamers.com founder Marek has this to say about puzzles (stealth included, I think?) in adventure games: http://adventuregamers.com/blogitem.php?id=18I agree with this. If say you're stranded on a deserted island like the main charater is in 'return to mysterious island' it would make sense to include some stealth sequences in the game, simply to sneak past the dangerous lions or animals on the island. The stealth puzzles in adventure games also have to be very well designed and executed as well as contribute to forwarding the story in the game. What frustrates me is when I feel that developers etc. simply put stealth (and action) sequences (puzzles) in the game just hoping that this means that the action crowd or fans of stealth games will buy say Dreamfall. I'm mentioning Dreamfall since one of the reasons for putting both stealth and action sequences in this game apparently seemed to be to get action and fps fans yo buy Dreamfall. Well, they did not do so. However, I think that Ragnar T. deserves praise for trying to re-think the adventure game and to challenge what we, the adventure gaming audience, thinks that an adventure game should or ought to be. /Karsten

Hate, hate, hate stealth in my adventure game. I gave up on Broken Sword 3 because of that, and I was actually enjoying the game so I was sorry to give up. Never even looked at Dreamfall; I knew it wouldn't work for me. Like others have mentioned, I want a stress-free gaming session; my life is stress-filled enough.
Pass the toothpicks.
The answer is....chocolate! Who cares what the question is.....
