I just completed a virus scan on my PC with "Norton AntiVirus."
It detected and identified the BFG toolbar as spyware. It also said that it would have to be manually removed. I have not done so, however; in light of the discussion that took place in this forum on 9/29/07 regarding "keyboard tracking," I would like the opinion(s) of those that are more informed about this subject matter than I.

Freya, I don't install toolbars etc. on my computer because truthfully the convenience has a price. The toolbar does track your keyword searches if you use the search within the toolbar. So does google and any other toolbar, so I would consider it minimal, but for me, I wouldn't use the search feature and then no problem.

I personally just log into BigFish daily to see the new game of the day instead of installing the toolbar.

You can also easily get rid of the toolbar in your Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. Then download and run ccleaner to clean up any remnants.

Ana,
Thanks for the info. Interestingly enough, I was previously unaware that the BFG toolbar was installed on my computer as it was not present on my browser or my Add/Remove Programs. As far as I can remember, I didn't include it in any of my BFG game installations. I found it in my program files and deleted it - then ran ccleaner as you suggested. I appreciate your knowledge and advice.
Freya
P.S. My inquiry does not mean I feel negatively about BFG. I have purchased quite a number of their games and will continue to do so.

No our toolbar is not spyware, malware or adware. Once a day it anonymously updates the new game of the day. This happens now and again (getting flagged as spyware) as it is built off Viscom Media's toolkit which about 200 different toolbars are also built off. Sometimes if one vendor does not play well, all Viscom's customer's products are flagged. IF you look at the link below, everyone form Yahoo, to Real to BFG uses their toolkit, but unfortunately so do some folks who are not ethical and ours gets flagged even though it shouldn't be. We wil complain to Norton (for the 3rd time in 2 years) on Monday and they will remove it form their list within a few days(again).

You can also remove it from add/remove programs as well (i.e. we properly register it and allow complete removal.)

Norton et al are valuable prodcuts to keep computers safe, but more often than not they flag valid applications as well. Big vendors like Microsoft are on their test suite so they do not accidentally flag Word or Excel as spyware, but smaller developers are constantly fighting them to keep off their "bad" list even though they never should be, they just mistake them for other products, but we are not big enough to be in their pre-update test list of applications to not accidentally flag.

Cheers!

Paul

I love the toolbar, but I wish it would work with Firefox...the only time I open IE is to use the BF toolbar.

Got it! Thanks L4L. But do I have to take the Yahoo Search with it? I use Google.

BF Guy, will you also tell Avast BF toolbar is not spyware? They put you into quarantine. I loved my toolbar but never asked anyone why this was happening. Now I am going to get it back out of the quarantine.
...............................................................
For those who do not know what Avast is, it is virus protection and personally I think it is the best VP out there. Never has let me down yet, except for giving me a false postitve on Big Fish toolbar which is not spyware in fact it is fun to use daily. With the toolbar you are one of the first to get the newest games. Cool.
