I was thinking about the games I have played, and I remembered this game called Raak Tu. It was a game made for the TRS 80 computer somewhere around 1981-1982. The game had no graphics, and was all text. It was kinda like those "Which Way" books, where you choose what you want to do next. It's amazing how far games and systems have come since then, but what's even more amazing is how impressed I was (and evidently still am smile ) with this game. Here's a link to the specs:

What was your first gaming experience?

If I remember right my first game was Voyage,It drove me nuts crazydidn't finish it!Then when I found Gameboomers I was able to finish the game, with plenty of help!! wave

I may not have gone where I intended to go,but I think I have ended up where I need to be.

Mine first adventure was definitely Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders (excellent Lucasfilm game) back on C64. This was the game which brought me to adventure games. I remember playing that game for months as there was no walkthrough and lots of dead ends. smile

(I am not counting IF games of course)

My first one was a Treasure Island text game with the kids in the early 80's. We were amazed because little pictures would pop up from time to time.

Then I didn't play another one until I played Amerzone 2 or 3 years ago. puppy

There's been some discussion over what makes a game "good". Some may say graphics is what makes a game good, some may like the music, and others the story line. In my case, that game had no sound (that I can remember) and no graphics. So what made it good? My theory is it's ability to capture your imagination - by any means possible. Hook, line and sinker.

Thinking back to your first memorable experience, did it capture your imagination, or was it something else that hooked you?

Yes, it captured my imagination. The environments were surreal and beautiful. The music kept playing in my head. And I wanted to know why the world had been abandoned.

It's almost 30 years ago I played my first adventure game on an Apple II. Don't ask me what the name of the game was,but I've been playing adventure games ever since.

I remember playing a game called Pi-mania on my tiny ZX81 computer, many many years ago. It was pretty much a text adventure, with some blocky and primitive graphics that popped up every now and then. As an 11 year old, I thought this was absolutely great! I spent hours and hours quite enthralled. I never did manage to finish the game; this was in the days long before Walkthroughs, and I got horribly stuck somewhere in Pi-land... for all I know, I could still be there. eek

I started playing The Legend of Zelda on the old NES that my son had and I borrowed the game from my nephew. Somewhere in the mid 1990's, I won a Windows 95 or 98 package deal from a radio station here in town. So we got a computer and I got Myst and Game Vault Volume One with Return to Zork on it. Boy was I hooked!!! So about three computers later (still want a laptop!) and who knows how many games later, I still love those games along with Grim Fandango, another early game I got. What would I do without a computer game to come home to every day???! grin

Happy Holidays to all...
