I just took a break from darkness within and I have a question for you or whoever else has played darkness within loath noder, at times I will be walking my character and all of a sudden
Click to reveal..
he starts spinning in circles. It makes me so nauseous I just quit the game! Whats up with that? Is my character suppose to spin in circles or a computer glitch?

I also like 3rd person games better where I Can see my character not just a cursor that helps the motion sickness also. Please tell me if anyone else has felt nauseous when walking or getting spun in circles in the game? I had this motion sickness in one other game and never finished it because of it and it is sherlock holmes the awakened. Has anyone else noticed that darkness within has the same music as scratches? The game Scratches and darkness within are alot alike and sorry to say it is causing me to lose interest in the game. Just my personal opinion. I like more character intervention with other people. I am not liking darkness within for that reason.

Hi Sherryah, smile I found it helped if you change the cuser, in "options", to a fixed position ( I think I've got that right ) It still swung around when the story called for it to but I found it was much better.

I,m now playing for the third time as my results say I only got 2 of the games 5 secrets and I really want to find out what the other 3 are think

Sherryah and dragon -- I'm putting spoiler tags on your posts, as the effect mentioned
Click to reveal..
scared me silly the first couple of times, and I don't think it would have that same result on anyone who had read about it before and was expecting it. Yes, it's intentional. No, it didn't give me motion sickness -- but games with 360 degree panning usually don't (though I know other people can have problems in games with panning). frown

I agree that the beginning environments in Darkness Within have the same Victorian gothic ambiance as Scratches -- however, if you continue through the game, I think you'll find that there are parts of Darkness Within that use dreams/visions much more than in Scratches -- these were some of my favorite parts of the game.

I didn't notice that the music was the same in the two games. As far as I could tell the music in Darkness is all original (I could be wrong,of course).grin

There is not a lot of character interaction in the game -- if you prefer games with lots of conversation and interaction, then this one won't be a favorite.

Hi old lady!

Keep trying!! It also took me 3 tries to find all the 'story secrets'. If I can do it, anyone can. lol

I loved every aspect of this game, and I wasn't bothered by motion sickness.

Are you saying this game gives you motion sickness on purpose just because your player character may be feeling sick?

Troubled me at first, but I just let it do its thing. It's part of the special effects. I think it's very clever and adds ambience to the scene. Teddo

Oh Becky, sorry I feel so silly I thought my computer had a glitch in it because in darkness within
Click to reveal..
your character spins in circles randomly.
LOL I had to laugh when I saw it was marked as a spoiler. I still get motion sickness with this game though especially when that happens, and I mean I become nauseous and physically ill. Not fun. I am going to try and do what another boomer suggested and play it with a fixed cursor.Hmm maybe I should seriously consider taking my anti motion sickness pills like I do when I fly or travellong distances by car so I don't get car sick. LOL bound and determined to play this game so it is worth a try. Thank you for your feedback all of you.

Hi Q, wave some of us were discussing our scores on the hints forum. It's easier there because you don't have to worry about spoilers. The tread is "Darkness Within - save please" and is last dated 10 Dec. thumbsup

I don't think a motion sickness warning is a spoiler.
Having the game spin around and not being able to control it does tend to cause me motion sickness. Does it happen a lot during the game? I'd have to look away from the screen whenever it happened.

Sorry Ana, blush oops

Just trying to be helpful as I know a lot of people have not had the chance to play the game and by discussing the game results I did not want you and Becky wasting time putting in the spoiler gray ups.

Actually, you should be putting in your own spoiler tags, we only do that when we have to. wink

If you switch to full reply, you'll see a loudspeaker looking thing. That's the spoiler tag.

not to often but it gets you a little unawares if you know what I mean .You just sort of lose control of the game or you think you are .You have to play to really under stand .Take the pills and see what happens .The motion sickness pills I mean .Id have tried that my self .May play again and see if it works .Guess it would work for other games to then

Motion sickness pills don't work for me.
Not with games anyway.
It isn't caused by real motion, you know.
Your stomach is not being jostled by the game.

I think it gets worse with age. When I was a teenager, fast cutting between scenes, like what you sometimes see in music videos or movie trailers did not bother me. But it certainly does now. I think it's the same with the screen moving around quickly and unexpectedly in games. For whatever reason, I'm more apt to get sick from it than I used to -- and more apt to get headachey as well as nausea.

i have an inner ear problem and sometimes games will cause me to get dizzy and urpy. it is because of eye and head movement. (i am not sure exactly why the eye causes the inner ear problem (balance) to act up but it does). So if i start to get a few hints, like dizzy, etc, i have to stop. Can go back later...may have to be a day or so later, or maybe only several hours later BUT have to get away from it...or the dizziness and sickness gets worse and lasts for days and days... helps if i look away (slowly...) from the 'busy' part of the game too...

Thank you Gamenut, I am so glad I am not the only one. I have to admit I am over 40 and I guess this is part of the mid life stuff I have to adjust too. All of your suggestions and explanations really help. Only to my new family the Boomers do I admit that, everyone else hears my age as 39 and holding on to it for dear life! LOL Shh please don't tell anyone!
