hmmmm....I don't think this was about death at all, that was not purgatory,
Click to reveal..
would robots be doing in a hovercraft in purgatory? Seems to me this was about aliens trying to learn about humans by controlling them and using them as lab rats in controlled settings
.....what do you think? All opinions welcome and I'm looking forward to a lively discussion here, no arguments, or heat please, just what was your 'take' on this one?
Love, Betty Lou

I believe the notes you find explain pretty well what was going on:

Click to reveal..
It was a corporation of the future doing experiments on stress which has become a HUGE problem in their time period. So far into the future that they had developed a time machine. Since they were in the future, they knew exactly when people had died and were able to 'snatch' them and bring them to the island seconds before their deaths in order to conduct experiments in the hopes of finding ways of controlling stress in people.

Every scene outside of the island (mortuary, high rise, accident scene) were designed to test people's stress and how much they could handle via the implant. I thought the situations and puzzles were very well designed to test that. Unfortunately, those same puzzles are also the bane of many adventure gamers like timed sequences and timed arcade puzzles. How else to test a characters stress than to put some stress on the player so they could experience the same feelings that the character is experiencing? Taken as a whole, I thought the developers did a really good job with the conveying that feeling.

After seeing the attention to detail in the game, I assumed that all of these situations would somehow fit together so I never got overly frustrated - except for the seatbelt arcade puzzle which I thought was WAY too difficult. I think it's unfortunate that most players didn't seem to look too deeply at the overall picture and story and instead got frustrated or bored and wrote the game off too early.

Should I put "Serious" in the title in front of "Spoilers!"?

It always makes me feel better for end-of-game spoilers. idea

I am so sorry. I feel like I should have "kept my big mouth shut" now. What can I do to make it up to you Ana. How about a nice lobster dinner and a good bottle of wine? I know, puppy or catrub will either of those make you feel better? And I strongly suggest you finish the game anyway - it was interesting, a good headscratching experience (my head itches all the time anyway from my psoriasis) and you will have lots to ponder over anyway. Ya know what? I did not get any of that storyline from what I experienced, just kept wondering what it was all about....I guess I'm just dense blush or confused

Betty Lou -- this from the first person who spotted the (serious Scratches spoiler)

thalidomide in the drawer
in Scratches? You're good at the head-scratching stuff.

It sounds as though the game will be a fun one to discuss, and maybe has a complex enough plot that it will be easier to understand a second time through.

Well, Ana, if you were going to plan on playing an April Fools joke on me, you couldn't have come up with anything as good or as funny as this! It's a good thing we both have a good sense of humor and life sure has its funny turns doesn't it? And yes, a lively discussion is just what I had hoped for when I started this REVEALING thread! lol looks like I am going to get my wish. Merry Christmas sweetie
