Hi Boomers....

I will be getting this game any day now....So far I have read where people are having problems wandering around..

My question to any one who has played & finished..this includes moderators or administrators...

Has anyone finished the game with Absolutely no help at all.

Thanks wave

Let me put this in perspective Darleen. If you are asking if this is a difficult game, I would have to say it is not.
Is it possible to play without a walkthrough? Absolutely.

Would you want to? If I had nothing to do all day but play, maybe. And that's a big maybe. Do I consider my game time valuable? It's more precious to me than a bag of diamonds. I can't buy time. I gave it a valiant effort, but I have to say that it pushed me to my limit of how long I can revisit the same locations in hopes that something will reach out and say look at me.

So it comes down to not if you can or can't finish it without a walkthrough, but how much patience and time you have to do so.

Thanks Ana...

I guess I was really looking for whether the game can be finished with alot of time & patience without a walkthrough..

Now let me use a hypothetical...If we had no walkthroughs & hints..we would have to set aside the game in frustration to go back & finish it at a later time..
So you answered my question it is possible to finish it without a walk through or hints...

I get real upset if there is no walk through <sigh> Kind of like <why> bother with a game that I can't take a peek at a walk through. think

I do not object to spending a few evenings taking notes and sorting through them to piece clues together to solve a puzzle. That is what adventure gaming is about to me. It is not wandering around pixel hunting or for that matter having an inventory the size of Texas and only using a few of them. It makes you needlessly utilize the "use everything with anything" mentality and I despise that.

I'm still hoping somewhere, sometime there will be a walkthrough. I finally gave up. I'm fortunate to have lots of time, but patience is not my long suit. However, I mustered up more patience with this game than with any other I've played. However, my frustration finally wore me out. I've shelved it, waiting for a walkthrough. Sadly, Teddo

I don't know if this is a long game, but it sure seems like one. That guy moves so slow. And it's hard to tell which way you're headed. Is the compass supposed to be for the direction your character is facing or is it the direction you're facing when you look at the screen? Awfully confusing.

Here's hoping the game gets better as you go along. So far it's kind of boring.

The compass points in the direction you are moving your curser. It really served no purpose except to take up room on the screen. lol I just drew maps so I knew my way around.

The pace stays consistent throughout the game. It gets slower towards the end of each chapter as you try to find things you are missing and picks up in the beginning as you get to explore the first time.

I understand the patience part (re: what would drive one to a walkthrough). Some people have more of it than others. But I've never understood the 'time' part of the reason, given the context of the fact that there aren't all that many AGs coming out. In other words, what difference does it make if the game takes longer than usual? If one goes to a walkthrough because one doesn't have the time, what else is one going to be doing with one's game-playing time?

Not giving you a hard time. I've heard this given as a reason for using a walkthrough several times and still don't get it.

Sir Dave, a little history of me to start with:

Part 1. I am not a walkthrough person and can complete many games without ever even giving it a thought. I do like knowing that one is there though if I truly get stuck and I give it to my son who will look it up for me so I don't see the rest. I love the satisfaction of completing a game on my own.

Part 2. I work as an acountant 45-60 hours a week every week. I am here on the board moderating at least 14 hours a day 7 days a week. I have 2 teen boys still living at home who require plenty of intervention and parenting and a daughter in college. :eeksnoman: I have a husband, who, bless his heart, has the patience of a saint, but still likes me to pay attention to him on a daily basis. Then add in your daily household chores such as cleaning, laundry, running the dogs etc. and see how much time you have left? I get 5 hours a sleep a night in order to do all that I have to do.

All of this requires much multi-tasking on my part and taking into consideration the fact that I am a little highstrung <snicker> I have a very hard time finding downtime and when I do, it takes more time than I usually have left in my day to truly unwind.

I do not watch TV, although I listen to it while doing other things, and my real enjoyment and escape is playing my games. I have a stack of unplayed games here. I like Adventure, RPG, FPS's and Casual games so I have many to choose from. When I finally load a game at the end of the day, for me to be wandering the same ground I wandered the day before and the day before that is about as much fun as a making me watch a large pot of water till it boils.

You also missed my second post which I think summed it up well also:
Quote:

I do not know what other folks reasons are for not having "time" but I do know for a fact that many others also juggle their days like I do even though it may be substituted with other duties.

I look forward to a time I can retire and my children will be grown into fine adults living on their own and I can at least be able to game a reasonable amount of time. Right now, I am doing the best I can with what I have, and loving every little precious minute of it.

Amen lol

Are you sorry you asked? wink

Hmm, speaking about time, I just now realized something. If I like a game I will do everything I can to avoid going to a walkthrough, but when I reach that point where my brain just stops and I can't think of anything to try, then it is a choice of walkthrough or quit. On the other hand if the game doesn't grab me I will quickly go the walkthrough route and check it often so I don't go astray and miss something and have go back for it, something I don't mind doing if I'm really liking the game. So to walkthrough or not to walkthrough depends on how much I'm enjoying the game play and that often means on how much I like the character/s I'm playing. I don't want those kind of games to ever end. Therefore time spent on a game depends on the enjoyment factor, which is why I play in the first place.

To love is to be happy with!

Hi smile

Well I AM retired (only do voluntary work these days) bravo

And my children HAVE left home sad

But I STILL have to juggle to make time to play games and NEVER get to play as many games, or play them for as long, as I would like mad

So a peek at a walkthrough is a definite aid to enjoyment when spare time is scarce thumbsup

[That said .... Even without all her other commitments, how BrownEyedTigre copes as she does here at Gameboomers without completely losing her sanity is a huge mystery to me - and I'm sure it is to many others !! think]

Cheers.

I love everything I do Mad, including working (most days). On the bad days you just have to tell yourself "this too shall pass" and on the good days, you tell yourself "tomorrow will be great also". And above all.....never forget to laugh. lol

Now...the sanity issue is still up for debate. I'm pretty sure I'm walking the line most days. grin

btw...I sure hope no one took my seemingly endless post as complaining, because I certainly did not intend it as such. I choose to do those things and I can change it if I want to. I just happen to not want to give any of it up. I was just trying to make a point on why "time" is an issue.

I have to agree with Ana, with this particualr game which has no walkthrough --- I thoroughly enjoyed helping Ana and Texaslady over in the hints forums with it -- It was like one big party. We all seemed to have a great time, got to know each other a little better --- and isn't that the whole point of it all?

Everyone helped everyone else that came along --- teased, cajoled -- out an out pushed or gave cryptic hints...some of us were moved to wax poetic (hmmm -- won't mention any names there wink ) But all in all it was the most fun I've had in a long time. Fun and new friendships I wouldn't have had if those boomers asking for help didn't ask.

I think walkthroughs are necessary for some to use and others to just plain enjoy. Both for the writers and the readers. Who cares anyway? The game is the thing -- how ever one enjoys thier time while gaming is fine by me.

I really did have a blast up there Inferno and it was a first for me. It was a great experience and I think all of us that were posting had a great time.

Unfortunately not everyone wants to post, for whatever their own personal reason is, and for them a walkthrough is in order.

I think if we took apart the two threads and cut and paste the posts in order of the game, pretty much every move has been covered anyways. lol

You need to get your priorities in order. If time for adventure gaming is suffering, the boys have got to go. And maybe the husband. Now there will be enough time for adventure gaming and running the dogs. No, don't thank me; always glad to help. crazy

(p.s. Easy for me to say; my kids are on their own now and I kept my wife wink.)

I agree with Mad. I am also retired and find that I use a walk thru as a guide to show me the "way" when I get confused or stuck. A walkthru can also help understand how to do a puzzle so that makes it more fun for me to complete.

I love to play my games first thing in the morning with my coffee! (That's about 4AM when I wake up)
