I found four or five of some recent releases in my local GameStop but declined to buy them. Each game box was tattered and had obviously been opened and retaped. Since it was after Xmas I wondered whether they had been returned which led me to wonder if the cds may also be less than perfect.

There was a bit of a line at the counter so I didn't ask a sales person, but I was wondering if the games on the floor are just for display and that they have unopened ones in the back.

Maybe it's just me, but if I'm going to pay full price for a game, I expect it to be the first person to open it.

You're going to have to ask at that particular store.
Sometimes shops have extra copies in the back and sometimes they don't.
Go back when the lines aren't so long.

My Gamestop opens the boxes and takes the CD's and locks them in the backroom.

My Gamestop does the same thing -- all the game boxes displayed on the floor have been opened. Though they do sometimes have extra stock in the back that hasn't been opened.

I get the impression that they had a lot games disappearing when they kept the disks in the boxes on display. Still, I hate to buy a game whose box has already been opened, whatever the reason for it.

Was lucky enough to get the french versions of Sunken Island, Reprobates and Malediction of Judas for x-mas.

Very impressed by Sunken Island ... despite the cd verification ID check that Micro Application had the bad idea to put on the cd. (present on all 3 games) causing many attempts to launch the game.

Do you understand French Belgar? That's a great selection of games!

Hi all, thanks for your comments. I stopped by another Gamestop today and most of the same games were there and were in much better condition. I asked about the other store and they said that they did keep the unopened games in the back and the stuff out was just for display. As is the case in most Gamestops. So I picked up three games to add to my ever growing pile. Hopefully I'll find time to get to them soon. smile

Yes, I moved from Belgium to Florida.
Got this package from my folks thru amazon France.

Haven't really had a chance to try the other two since I built a new system. Been busy with bioshock and crysis.

I get all my games from Amazon.com and sometimes from Trading Post here. Amazon takes real good care of the buyer and have never been burned by a fellow/sister GBoomer. I sometimes wonder how many have handled these store games.

Belgar - thanks for the tip about "The Curse of Judas". Looks great fun. Have you tried the French-language version of Fahrenheit? You might like it.

Here's a thought - if you speak (or are learning) a foreign language, adventure games are extremely useful. I'll try one in French or Spanish every once in a while just to keep my skills up, with subtitles on and a notebook to hand for new grammar and vocabulary. This is one of the reasons I like adventure gaming - well-written and well-researched ones throw up areas of learning which you may not encounter in daily life. That's my excuse for playing them, anyway.........
