Does anybody know anything about this game? When I try to find a review, I get nothing of interest. It appears it may be only available through download. Thanks.

It's quite an old game. I remember having fun with it.
There are several reviews; our Mad wrote one here. Quandary has one.

A comedic quest adventure with colorful cartoon-like graphics. It was a lot of fun, though the dialogs were sometimes a bit too long. Mad has a brief review, followed by a discussion with other Boomers here.

I got mine a few years ago through ebay. It took months to find one. It is a hard game to get hold of.

Where did you find it for download?

I don't think Gilbert Goodmate has been officially released for downloads anywhere.

However, I did find a copy of this game at my local video store (EB games) some time ago.It was from nordicsales.se

Here's the website:

http://nordicsoftsales.ztorm.net/product/?id=10578

If you hit the 'köp' button besides the 75 (swedish) kr. you will get the product in your basket (or varukorg).

Apparently this game can be downloaded via something called ztorm.

The game has English voices and Swedish text, but as I think it is the same game as mine, you should be able to turn the swedish subtitles OFF in the options menu. (or read the Danish subtitles).

edit:

I forgot to add that while I'm nearly 44, I enjoy playing Gilbert Goodmate immensely smile

I played this years ago and liked it. There was another called Torins Passage that I think came out about the same time that was similar and also good. Enjoy

Has any one seen any little gray cells around as I think I've lost some? Reward for finder.

It was released as a download for PocketPC (handheld).
I don't know of a PC release.

You may have played them at about the same time, but Gilbert Goodmate came out in 2001 while Torin's came out in 1995. Maybe you're thinking of Tony Tough, which came out in 2002.

I am trying to BAGG this on a trade...

This game looks like a true classic like the Monkey Island games.
But being its so rare...I might not have any luck on a trade frown

think

It is not "rare", I do not believe it was ever published in the US and it isn't new so they are just hard to find here. It is available on ebay Right Here.

In the search for info on Gilbert Goodmate 2, I found this Danish website that sells the game: (it looks officially enough, I think) Don't know if they ship to the US or Europe, though.

http://www.gamers-globe.dk/shop/produkt/spil/pc/gilbert-goodmate.html

Anyway, just hit the 'køb spillet nu' button (or the 'buy the game' now button). The cover looks just like the cover of the Gilbert Goodmate game I have.

The website also says that the game is in stock (that's what 'på lager' means in Danish - nothing to do with the something you can drink wink ).

Unfortunately, the website list the game's genre as 'børn' (children). Maybe it's because it is (animated) cartoons ?

I really do think that we need to convince developers and in particular publishers that animated does not necessarily means that it is (only) for children.

edit:

I also found this site

http://www.gilbertgoodmate.com/

which has the latest patch v. 1.05 from 2007 for Gilbert Goodmate

I also found this site:

http://prelusion.com/

which apparently is the games developer - from Sweden (I think).

edit 2:

I just found this teaser site (sorry this is alle there is):

http://www.gilbertgoodmate2.com/

Also this bit of info:

http://www.adventuretreff.de/newsarchiv.php?kategorie=1

If you go down to the 4.02.2008 (that would be February 4th for the US residents) you will see that apparently the Swedish gamedeveloper Prelusion is working on a Gilbert Goodmate 2 game. (paraphrasing the translation from German to English here).

I know I have seen this info some around the adventure game community, but can't exactly remember where.

At least we have the hope of one day seeing a Gilbert Goodmate 2 game...

I would love to see another GG game--not only was the first one thoroughly enjoyable (and not just a children's game), but the customer service was incredible! I had a problem with the video, and the developer personally made up three or four patches for me, until he came up with one that made everything work perfectly. Now that's service...yay

I kind of doubt any of the original developers will want to work on the game after the way they were treated. For details, read through ***this old thread from 2001*** from the adventure newsgroup, where Lorne Laliberte, one of the developers, talks about how shabbily they were treated (while the suits walked away with the money from game sales).

Found this on Steam recently. I'd forgotten what a really good game is was. What a shame there will be no sequel and so sorry to read what happened. I hope those guys eventually got something out of it. They deserve to.
