I am into the new Orient Express game and so far so good no problems. This game generates a few questions. Is it me or is the game taking a big leap when it expects our heroine to repair the pipe under the train? We have our super detective laying on his bed feeling sorry for himself over a sprained ankle. There is a conductor, a baggage man and an engineer all hanging around doing nothing. One guy is in a bad way worrying about eating, another about freezing to death and doing nothing about it. and our poor woman left to do all the work.

I am at the point where she is crawling around looking at the broken pipe under the train while all the guys are just, ---- well doing nothing. Hmm so i gotta figure out what's next. But I would think the game at this point should have the player control a character who has some sort of expertise to solve this problem. If the developers wanted to go in this direction they should have not made such a leap away from logic. Even if it came to her saying "look you need to get off your rear, get a wrench, a piece of pipe and etc.

Like I said so far a good game but this scene is quite a stretch. What do you guys think is it just me?

Hi oldmariner smile

Is this phenomenon new to you ??

How many adventure games have you played ??

Or should I say how many totally logical adventure games have you played ??

I think I can safely say "none" myself and
so I am used to FAR more outlandish things !!

evil evil

Cheers.

I've been getting grumpy at a lot of adventure games lately where the need to solve pointless puzzles are increasing. In this one, I got really cheesed off at all the useless puzzles you need to do just to get into the train station, so I uninstalled the game and returned it to the rental store.

Thankfully Sam & Max is coming along nicely smile

Mad--

Actually I have played a lot of them and no this is not new. But it just struck me as odd that our poor girl would have to do it all. Kinda like Kate Walker huh.

Maggie--

I have not read the book, saw the old, really old black and white movie a long time ago.

Marticus---

I take it with a grain of salt, pointless puzzles are a pain at times. The route to the train station? Well I would have like to seen her take a rip at the obnoxious people who blocked her route just once. It may have provided some realism. But it is a fun game and the distractions are just that. I think some display of frustration for all that is dumped on her would have made it a bit believable.

Hi oldmariner lol

Antoinette is very resourceful! She also doesn't have a place on the train that she is expected to stay in the way an engineer or conductor would be expected to do. She's more of a free agent. I don't think it's a stretch that she would find the necessary item.

The actual repair -- okay, a bit of a stretch. laugh

whistle I played this one early on. I thought it was OK but little more. The 'Train Repair' and the 'Cabin' routines seemed to me to be to fairly desperate attempts to get the character and the player off the blasted train for a bit. I remember growing really weary of walking back and forth, back and forth.

What I like the best is that, as soon as she gets off the train she is instantly dressed in an overcoat and boots and when she boards again the outdoor clothes vanish.

I started this months ago and never finished. I found it pretty tedious and dull. I too got really tired of the back and forth. I love adventure games that introduce new environments to explore throughout the entire game.

I child-proofed my home... but they're still getting in!

Hi smile

Well I enjoyed this game - and much more than I enjoyed its predecessor thumbsup

I guess I must like traipsing up and down trains lol

[There was a useful map though so didn't have to traipse ALL the time woozy ]

And I'm definitely hoping for another in the series laugh

Cheers.

Logic and believability in our games is a thorny subject that has been round the track (No pun intended) a few times in this forum.
I think that in order to have a constructive discussion we have to separate fantasy based games from true life games. We also have to remember that all fiction takes certain liberties with our everyday world.

For many of us AG games are about solving puzzles whether the solutions are logical or not isn
