Hi Gang!

I just finished Barrow Hill and thought it was an outstanding game, especially considering it among many of the new games we get these days.

BUT... I am puzzled by three things:

1. After I got the metal detector I walked everywhere with it. Curiously, it clearly detects something at the second step toward the altar, going away from the field "tent". I found the whiskey bottle, but this is far from there.

Anyone know what's going on here?

2. At the altar, a lens can be placed in a standing stone and the picture you get from the composit of the rubbings of the row of stones shows a light shining through the lens and landing on the circle at the middle of the altar. I couldn't get anything to happen here.

Is the light triggered in some way?

3. Once you have all three parts of the disk artifact it is possible to place them on the circle at the middle of the altar, but nothing happens and I could not get the pieces back.

Is this a dead end?

Thanks everybody!! thanks

If I remember correctly if you put the disc together in the wrong spot it will disappear. Then you would have to go back to a save game and redue that part. The disc and the lens have to be placed in the same area for things to click together. It has been a while since I play this great game. When all is put correctly I beleive there is a short video after that.

Thanks for the move MaG!
I never seem to get that right.

Thank you MysteryFantic.

I never had the disc disappear, but maybe I had to back out of the close-up or otherwise walk a little away and then it would disappear when I tried to go back and look at it. (?)

Now... your second comment is really interesting because when I put the disc on the altar, the lens was already in place (I had put it there much earlier). Maybe you have to put them in there at the same time? But, then, you don't get the last piece of the disc until the end.

And the standing stone with the lens is right next to the altar, and, in fact, were in the exact same position as in the picture from the rubbings. So they were in the same area (if I understand you correctly).

I got no short video.

Anyone have any other experiences with this?

1. The metal detector is supposed to work in only one place and that is near the gas pump at the hotel service station.

2. You can put the three aftifacts in the center of the digging, as I recall, and go below ground. I get a little hazy at this point because it may be that you cannot do this until after you put three artifacts on the stone and let the light shine through the lens onto them, solidifying them.

3. Hopefully, the above sort of explains this problem you had.

Hi BillyBob!
Thanks for your help.
But you're thinking of the GPS machine (with the longitue and latitude readings) that only works near the gas pump.

The metal detector works in the castle ruins (to find an artifact piece) and in the mound of dirt next to the swinging tray at the field tent near the row of stones (to find the whisky flask).

GO BELOW GROUND!! HOW COOL!!!
But for me, when I put the artifact pieces (one piece at at time) on the center of the digging I got a video and then the credits.

I put the artifact pieces on the stone, but the light never shined. Maybe I was in the way?

Well... that's it! Now I HAVE TO go back and see what's UNDGER GROUND!!!

You're right. I'm pretty sure I found that particular artifact without using the Metal Detector. Same for the Whiskey. That's why I didn't catch myself on that one. laugh

EDIT:
I made another mistake about how to go underground. I forgot I'd written my own little WT so here's what it says about the last of the gameYou should now have all Seven Offerings in inventory.

Go to the STONE CIRCLE (Definitely SAVE Here) and place the OFFERINGS, each on the proper STONE. If you place the wrong offering on a Stone you will see lightning. Before returning to the Save you can experiment by using whatever Offerings you still have to find the proper Offering for that particular Stone

Raj.....
I can't send you any save through GB as you now have your profile set up. Send me an EMail and put GB in the Subject Line and I'll be glad to send some.

Take a look at my edited post above and you might not even need any. laugh

BillyBob!!!
That walkthrough bit is terrific!!

I'm going to go back in and do it like you said (although I did each standing stone as soon as I got each offering).

I have a save pretty close to the end. SO... I may be okay without your saves. But I'll write you to get them if I need them.

THANKS!!

There's still the question of that strange metal detector reading I got two steps toward the (above ground) altar stones.

Anyone have any ideas or found a walkthough that explains it?

I'll be checking onto the internet off and on during the day so if you need anything I'll be around. laugh

If you will, let me know how you make out.

Does ANYONE have a clue about the weird metal detector thing?

Hi BillyBob!
I was sick yesterday and didn't so much as boot up the computer.
BUT... Feeling better tonight and dying to try your walkthrough! I'll certainly let you know how it goes.

If you have saves near the end of the game, could you load one up and see if you get that metal detector reading on the way to the altar? If it's any trouble forget it.

I'm just so PUZZLED!

I still have this game loaded on the Win98 computer so will check that out and let you know. laugh

EDIT:

I modified my previous instructions slightly so you should have no problems following them.

I tried the METAL DETECTOR as you said and it does give a reading on the second click into the path but not when you turn around to go out. Doesn't seem to mean anything, though. laugh

BillyBoy!!

Thanks Sooooo much for your instructions!!!

I just went through them and saw the "real" ending.

SO much more than I got from the game the first time. All of the altar and underground stuff was cool! And I call it the "real" ending because there's actually a nice movie ending. Much better than going straight to credits!!

SO... you think the metal detector thing is just a glitch or something.

I wonder if Mat Clark and Jonathan Boakes answer their fan mail?
Thanks again and...
Take Care!

Glad to hear it worked out for you. I'm sure it must have been a much better ending than the one you first experienced. laugh

The Metal Detector thing was just an error in programming, I suppose. Things like that happen sometimes. duh

It can't hurt to try an EMail to them. Things like this pique my curiosity, too. think
