Games with multiple endings and how to see them...SPOILERS #29994

Some games have multiple endings as in the case (most famously?)of Tex Murphy: Pandora Directive.

I have a vague memory of reading that there were four endings, and, I think, there was some way to see the endings without replaying the game over and over. I don't remember how though.

Other similar examples of multiple endings, though not adventure games are:

Blade Runner has, if I remember correctly, seven endings, but I don't know how to see them and I can't remember where I read this.

Deus Ex has four endings and you can see them by typing in "cheat codes" to play each video. I found this out while looking for a "god code" to get me through all the fighting.

AND, back to an adventure game, I just found out that Timelapse actually has two endings, and which one you get depends on the very last actions you do. I found this out by looking at the very end of a walkthrough.

And I would have had no other way of knowing.

Since there doesn't seem to be a good way of finding out about them, I hoped we could use this thread to share knowledge about multiple endings and how to see them, especially in Adventure Games.

I second...

OH WOW!!

Thanks Ana!!

BARROW HILL... really? I just finished it! How did you find out about the endings?

I just bought (and am waiting for) And Then There Were None, so I'm glad to be forewarned about that game. Does the same go for the other Agatha Christie games?

And which Safecracker?
I have both the old one and the recent one.
thanks EVERYONE!

Raj, I generally find out about another ending when I read posts and they don't sound anything like my ending of the game. happydance

Safecracker 2006 had a different ending depending on who you picked, it was a far more subtle ending (just a letter telling you what happened) then Agatha Christie or Barrow Hill.

Thanks Ana!
Thanks MaG for the walkthrough!

And thanks Dar for suggesting a whole 'nother topic: games that use randomization for replayability. I mean like in the puzzles (I wonder if any games do this in the PLOT). I know there are some games with a lot of this... but off hand... ??

Also, there are games with two playable characters with different paths through the game for each. Examples:

Jazz and Faust
Kingdom O'Magic

I suppose both of those would have different endings, too.

There are games with different levels of difficulty and the plots that change with each level.

The Puzzle 3D games are like this, and so is Symbiocom.

Shadow of Destiny also has multiple endings, decided by your course of action throughout the entire game. Very complex, intricate and intriguing!

Secrets of Da Vinci has a couple of different endings, dependent upon how close a relationship you develop with Babou.

Thanks Rushes!
I have Shadow of Destiny so I'm gonna have to get into that one.

Haven't gotten Secrets of Da Vinci, but you may have just changed my mind into getting it!

Indigo Prophecy has multiple endings too. The Moment of silence had two. I still think Blade Runner was so great for this. I don't know if there were actually seven or not, I think I only got four or five. I read there were others, but couldn't make them work.

Ana, I played all 3 games, didn't know about the multiple endings. Maybe we could have a special section. And I played Moment of Silence too. Wonder what else I missed .

DOn't forget Riven! And Myst 3. And Myst 4, for that matter. In fact, most of the Myst games have multiple endings.

Gabriel Knight, The Beast Within - has/had a multiple ending - <span class="spoiler_containter"><span class="spoiler_wording">Click Here For A Spoiler</span><span class="spoiler_text">when in the Lodge forest you are supposed to be able to shoot Von Glower instead of the wolf, (thereby concluding the game early and with a different ending), but I could not make it work. Others were successful and others posted here in HINTS that they were not.</span></span> Cannot think of any other games at the moment.

If you can lose at the end, I guess it has alternate endings..which is true for many adventure games. I regard things as having true alternates when there is more than one way to win or lose.

In this sense, ALL the Myst games have alternate endings. That's Myst 1-5, because you can get better and worse 'losing' sequences as well as the optimum ending...even if it doesnt look initially optimum.

I kinda wondered in Myst if I had ticked off Atrus someway when I got the 'best' ending the first time. Sure his words were nice, he seemed nice, but then he was too busy to talk to me anymore. hhmm... lol

I think only game in the Myst series that doesn't have alternate endings is the single-player Uru:Chronicles...which I find a tad ironic.

My Mom reminds me that "Journey to the Center of the Earth" has two 'winning' scenarios. Thankfully the ending changes in that game don't sneak up on you. You openly choose what you think is better at the end.

I don't know if this is considered an adventure game or not or whether it was made for PC, but the original Clocktower had I think 5 different endings!!

Interesting to find out that there are different endings for And then there were None, Barrow Hill & also Moment of Silence! smile

I mentioned TMOS earlier, but it really was a matter of doing it wrong or doing it right. Not like a different ending as the result of moral choices or anything - like Blade Runner. Just thought I would mention that, so someone doesn't play all the way through again just to see! laugh

Whoa!!

Moment of Silence had different endings?
But I played it and already traded it away!!!

And most of the MYST games have multiple endings?!?!?!!

Starting with Riven?
Once again a game I've already traded away (still have III and IV, though).

Did the original MYST have multiple endings?

And Gabriel Knight 2!! It's been ages since I played that game. But at least I still have it... and come to think of it... it just might be time to give that sucker another go!

I've gone back and forth over whether or not to get Indigo Prophecy, but multiple endings is a definite plus to me.

And nickie, where did you read about the endings to Blade runner. (Private Message me.)

Gilligan, I never got close to Resident Evil, but I have Silent Hill 2. Are you referring only to Silent Hill 1 or the series?

OKAY... This thread is turning out greater than I'd hoped!!

Let's keep it up and watch the spoilers.

Saying that there are multiple endings is fine.
But saying what they are is a MAJOR spoiler!!!

Sometimes saying how to get the different endings could be a spoiler too.

Maybe the information on how to get the endings should be religated to Private Messages for those who finished the game, but want to see the other endings.

Thanks EVERYBODY for all the juicy info!! laugh

Raj -- good point about the spoilers.

Could anyone who has said exactly how to get another ending, please put that info in spoiler tags, with the name of the game outside of the tag so people know which game's ending is about to me spoiled? Thanks!

To set up a spoiler tag, type in [spoiler]text with the spoiler in it[/spoiler*

Instead of the * type in ]

Raj -- yes, the original Myst has (as far as I know) 3 different endings.

Raj, hi,

Pandora directive actually has 8 possible endings, but only 6 of them are unique (in the FMV sequence that features when you get that ending). I spent like 2 months figuring out how to get all the possible endings, and my walkthrough gives the exact dialogue choices and moral decisions you need to arrive at each one:

Steve\'s comprehensive Pandora Directive walkthrough

The opening paragraph of the walkthrough explains the concept of the different paths, while the end of the walkthrough describes each ending in detail [spoilers abound, of course!].

Cheers,

Raj, that was almost ten years ago, and I don't have a clue where I read that. But I just looked on mobygames and the blurb says there are six endings...
I did remember another game - Verschollen auf Lost Island (Missing on Lost Island).

Post Mortem has 2 different endings and its not too hard to see them both:

Click to reveal..
when talking to the Doctor at the end, if you call him by his name and then destroy the mask then you get the 'good' ending where everyone lives happily ever after. If, however, you call him by the name of the man supposedly possessing him and then hand him the mask he shoots you and the girl hanging by her ankles
