I just happened to be stuck Level 78 of this older game (which I'd never been able to finish) myself when Rosaboomie posted, so I've been following this thread with interest. I really appreciate the suggestions with respect to adding time and, after doing so, was finally able to complete the game.
Instead of being gratified, however, the entire experience has left me feeling somewhat disturbed. In short, I feel like a cheat!
That's not to say, however, that I don't absolutely believe the modification is necessary to complete this game. But it just seems to me that a player SHOULDN'T have to do that.
I'm not opposed to a game requiring either great speed or an elegant and/or complex strategy. But it seems to me that completion should be within the realm of reasonable possibility, and the programming on this one just seems to be off. The game was so well designed, from the music to the graphics to the integrated storyline, I'm just really disappointed that they dropped the ball there. To go from horrible frustration to guilty completion is neither satisfying nor consistent with an enjoyable game experience!
The good thing that's come out of this, however, is that I now have a real appreciation for the many games, including some that do not fall within the time management category, that provide exactly the right amount of challenge. I didn't recognize the art involved in this, and I'm definitely adding it to the list of things I look for and appreciate in a game!
