From the official site: There's something wrong with the forest. No matter how bright the sun shines, it remains dark and foggy. It smells like something died. Strange noises fill the rusty air. Squeaks and screeches. The dull thump of someone chopping trees. The wind playing eerie melodies on ghostlike flutes. Shivers run down her spine. She just left the city. Cars can't drive here anymore. Mother told her to go visit grandmother. The old lady lives all alone at the other side of the forest. Quite a walk from here. It's probably best if she stays on the path...
* play six different characters with distinct personalities * interact with autonomous characters driven by Drama Princess technology * unique free-form gameplay: do what you want when you want it * mix the music in realtime through in-game activity * lose yourself in an endless forest filled with attractions and atrocities
The Path is a new short horror game developed by Tale of Tales, a teaser has already been released at the official site HERE where you can find screenshots and more news about this game, that will be hopefully released early 2008.

I hope this game does get developed eventually.
Not to disappoint anyone this early, but their previous project "8" failed miserably. Sources close to me say the developers are extremely confident of their own products and ideas, and will not stop talking about how unique their games are, but they can't get any funding because they can't convince anyone the games will actually sell. They're artists first and not true developers, so their view of the games industry is lopsided. That's not negative, per se, but it hasn't helped them either.
'8' was to be a unique game, according to Tale of Tales different from anything else in the world. It was to be a game about a deaf/mute girl in a mysterious world where everyone except she sleeps (loosely based on Sleeping Beauty); the game was supposed to be unique because it would have no combat or action (they clearly hadn't heard of adventure games ever before) and no spoken or written words (not even in the menu's - I'll grant them that one is unique). No publisher was interested in the concept and it was cancelled.

Hmmm, "unique free-form gameplay" and "lose yourself in an endless forest"? I don't think so! Why does free-form gameplay and lost in an endless forest sound like there will be many problems with moving around in this game? It is like I can almost see all those posts asking for "saved games" in order to finish. Sorry, I can't get enthusiastic about this game at this time, maybe later.
To love is to be happy with!

Most dark and dreary games and movies are not interesting to me. Just seems like a way to hide poor action scenes in movies and make the graphics easier on the game/movie maker.
Having said that, and there were some dark games I liked, such as Barrow Hill for one example, I tried the link and got locked to it untill I was able to get out of the internet completely and had to reconnect to GB. Don't think I'll be back there again.
I didn't do it......and if I did I'm not guilty!

8 wasn't canceled. It was put on hold and may eventually see the light of day. They released a private beta a couple years ago, and I got to play around with it, and it was a fantastic little game. The main character from 8 will be in The Path, so they'll get to use her sooner rather than later. Also, the endless forest mentioned above, is the same endless forest from their Endless Forest "game" that you can already download and play. 8 will be back! It's just asleep now. It was conceived as a normal-budget game but it was too special get it funded within the traditional games industry. Since then we have also learned a lot about what we want to do with this medium. As soon as we figure out how to apply our new ideas to 8 and get our hands on some funding (a lot less this time -we're much more interested in low-budget productions now), it'll be back. And then for real!

More details about the game as been released today: "The Path is a horror game inspired by the fairy tale of Little Red Ridinghood. Just like in their first game project, 8, Tale of Tales go back to the roots of the story, where things are not as pleasant as the Grimm brothers portrayed them. In The Path, you play Little Red Ridinghood. Not the cute blond toddler that we're used to, but a young woman in the throws of teenage angst. When her mother sends her on an errand, she has no intention to stay on the path. But the forest is a dangerous place. Especially for lonely girl with an interest in wolves. Tale of Tales is releasing screenshots of an internal prototype of the game. It is safe to say that the images do not represent what is coming. But they are an integral part of the development process and as such worthy of documentation. The artwork is made by Stacey Demarco (environments) and Auriea Harvey (characters). Screenshots GalleryAuriea Harvey and Michael Samyn, the designers, explained: "Our story is about fear and uncertainty, getting lost in the forest and the inevitability of death. The music composed by Jarboe for the game already expresses this quite well. Now we are modelling the gameplay to get closer to that."

Despite of appearances perhaps, Tale of Tales have been extremely active behind the scenes, working hard on the production of The Path, a short horror game inspired by Little Red Ridinghood. In order to no longer keep fans in the dark, a development journal has been opened where the team will report on the production on a regular basis. Please visit http://Tale-of-Tales.com/ThePath/blog . Soon, Tale of Tales will also start revealing the main characters in The Path. The six Red Girls. Who are they? What do they look like? How would it feel to play them? New teaser at http://Tale-of-Tales.com/ThePath I hope you are curious as much as I am to meet them!

Oh dear I was quite pessimistic about the chances of this game ever being completed. Well, not anymore As you can read in another thread I've seen an early version of the game and am now convinced it will be. Afraid I can't say more.
I'll be back, one day, when I feel like it.
