Does anyone know whether Dreamcatcher/Adventure Game Company plans to produce any more Agatha Christie adventure games, as opposed to HOGs? I thought the first one (sans Poirot) was the best . . . and now all these hidden object games? I'd say it's not what they do best (I look to Big Frog games for that). Sadly, the whole idea of games based on AC books seems to be on a slippery slope . . . anyone have any info or opinions?

There are previous threads on this Here and others linked from within that thread.

There are no plans to release a PC version at this time.

Big Frog?

Sorry, wasn't making fun, I actually came across a site that was a Big Frog that had java games on it. I thought maybe there was more to it than I found.

I'd like to see some more regular Agatha Christie adventure games for PC. I was very disappointed to find out the latest game wasn't for PC after waiting about a year for it to come out.

Apparently the Hidden Object Agatha Christie games sold as well as the full-fledged adventure Agatha Christie games, but the Hidden Object/casual games are less expensive to produce. It seems as though the Adventure Company, at least at the current time, is choosing to go with what is more profitable, and there are no plans I know of to make more Agatha Christie adventures for PC.

I was glad to hear about the Agatha Christie stories becoming adventure/mystery games..however, i only got the first one. The story was already written so knew that would be good..and the graphics were ok, and sound....but truthfully i got a bit bored with the clicking. Lots of dialog and all of it you had to click on. the game just seemed to get a bit tedious. I have played the HOG AG's and they're very, very good for HOGs-so if they do more of them fine with me But for a full adventure game i think they should have some very good voice actors and better way for the dialog to flow.

I also loved the original Agatha Christie games...I am now playing the latest one that is a HOG game and it is fun but not the same venue as the adventure style games....I read here on Gameboomers that there is a Murder She Wrote in the works...also a HOG game...I probably will give that a try but would look forward to a more adventure based game...I hope more adventure games for the PC will be coming out soon.....

It's very very tempting to get a DS solely to play this game. That's how desperate I am to play a new agatha christie adventure.
Those hidden object ones just didn't cut it for me I'm afraid they were playable but you can't compete with the brilliance of those adventure agathas.

I mean heck I had white out issues on Evil Under The Sun and I still pressed on with them. My sister and even my older brother also thought they were brilliant games.

Hi, BrownEyedTigre--no problem! :-)

And thank you, Becky--sounds like you really have the inside scoop. Too bad. I still think the AC HOGs don't compare to such wonderfully entertaining games as Return to Ravenhearst or Madame Fate (by that company, Big Horse Games!).

I can see that some people might have felt And Then There Were None was a little slow-moving and dull, but there was just such a genuinely sad and mysterious atmosphere to that game. My kids and I loved it. We were a little disappointed when Poirot came onto the scene with all his efficient good cheer.

Oh, well--who am I kidding? I bought Death on the Nile, and I'll probably buy Peril at End House, too (which was one of my all-time favorite Christie books, BTW). Thanks, all!

I also love the adventure games catrub. HOG games are fun, but I only play them to past the time, when I don't have a adventure game to play. So I would love to see more AC adventure games made to go with the books. I would loved to see more games based on some good mystery books, not only AC but others also.

Hi janebirkin wave,

I also enjoyed, And Then There Were None the same way you did thumbsup.

Exactly Trinny the hidden object ones are just a stop gap until you have a juicy adventure to start on.
I don't think the AC HOGs are that great to be honest there's better ones out there. There ten a penny those HOGs now so I wouldn't be surprised if sales started dropping soon so maybe they would do an adventure again. This is wishful thinking tho probably as likely as dreamfall chapters getting released in the next couple of years.

Hi, Trinny3!

Yes, my son re-plays ATTWN every Christmas vacation. There's something haunting about the music and the lighting, capturing that sad, just-before-dinner feeling.

My kids and I also still do "Patrick Narracott" talk, which consists of the following inane dialogue, taken directly from the game:

"I won't do it!"
"Ah! The movies!"
"That's a particularly bland landscape!"

My husband, who does not play any computer games, finds us particularly bland.

I'm glad some people liked the Agatha Christie adventure games. They were definitely labors of love, made on a shoestring (unfortunately that was an American shoestring - which still costs more than an Eastern European shoestring.) It may be of interest to some that a full-fledged adventure game version of The ABC Murders was in progress at Awe Games for almost half a year before the plug was pulled in favor of going HOG/Layton style with a foreign developer, leaving Awe seriously in the lurch. In my admittedly biased opinion, this would have been the best of the Agatha adventure series to date (but I realize that, to most, that isn't saying much.) Of additional interest is the reason ABC took so long to materialize on the DS... this was because of a contract TAC had with Awe concerning the right of first refusal on the title. The game surely took no more than 4-6 months to make. Awe was originally slated to release it in October of 08.

I'm no longer with Awe, but I loved working on those titles and am saddened by the course of events that led to the demise of the series.

Oh, well. I managed to get David Suchet to record my answering machine message as Poirot - that's enough for me!

Hi Scott -- I know many of us here assumed that we'd have the pleasure of a new Agatha Christie adventure game every fall, hopefully for decades. At one point, one of the members happened across an ABC Murder box shot that made us very hopeful that the game was being made as an adventure for PC. The ABC Murders is one of my favorite Christie novels -- it's extremely sad that it came that close to fruition before it was shelved. hardwall

That's wonderful about the phone message! lol I've always been curious -- was David Suchet surprised at the amount of dialog that went into a computer game when he voiced Poirot in the Murder on the Orient Express game?

I wasn't actually at the recording, which took place in the UK. I just slipped the line into the dialogue and waited to see what came of it (I did the same thing when we worked on SpongeBob titles, but because of the oddball nature of SpongeBob, it was easier to work the lines in surreptitiously.) What happened was I got a call from the producer at TAC overseeing the recording calling me out, but he wasn't too upset. I think Mr. Suchet took it in good humor as well - when the VO came back there was not only the answering machine message but another message where Poirot gravely intoned to Hastings how saddened he was by my suspicious murder.

By all accounts, he was really amazing to work with. I think his experience recording so many of the Christie audiobooks stood him in good stead when it came to not being overwhelmed by lines. He received an early version of the script several months before the recording, so he definitely wasn't surprised on the day -- but he may have been when he got the initial script. We only had one shot with him, so we had to pack the script with as many possible cover lines as we could think of, a large percentage of which were never used.

I can say it was one of the most satisfying days of my game dev career when the audio came back - we plugged it all in immediately just so we could hear it in context, and it just made such a night and day difference.

I know Murder on the Orient Express is most people's least favorite of the three, but it was certainly my favorite for two principal reasons - the art direction and Suchet.

I love David Suchet as Poirot! He brings such life to the Poirot character, quirks and all!

I agree that The ABC Murders would have probably been a really good game thumbsup,
it is depressing to know that it was put on the shelf sad.
