Ok... well here we go again.. and this time I am doing Death Gate. A Legend Interactive game and a terrific example of how incredibly well designed puzzles and interaction with the game world can overcome age. This is retro gaming in a nutshell. Based on The Death Gate Cycle this game brings a terrific story, has extremely good conversations trees and voice over's, brilliant game design and even some genre first game devices now common place in game. Though this game did it first.

Well this is my last review for the time being (I tend to do them in 2s for some reason) and I hope you like it. The Policenauts review was a little rushed as it was an after though. I was in fact working on The Cornels' Bequest, but thought it would be good to get that review out while the game was in its current resurgence of popularity due to the recent release of the English fansub.

I think I am finally starting to get these reviews working as I wish, as in fitting in most of the commentary I wish to fit in.. I am even under 10 min this time smile I feel this is my best review so far.

Anyway.. I hope you like it
Have fun and Happy Adventuring

I made a HUGE error in this video and said INFOGRAM instead of INFOCOM... no idea how I missed this during the editing.... the entire spiel about text adventure should make sense now smile The new version is exactly the same but has this error fixed.... sorry guys... no one is perfect smile

I have edited the original post to the new URL locations.

Yea this game is a terrific title as are pretty much all the games by infocom and legend entertainment. It is a real shame they do not get the credit they deserve... especially the infocom games witch were before graphics...

Another good review! I was surprised by the amount of text. They really were aiming for a text adventure with graphics. It looks like a lot of thought went into the game.

I just looked for it on Amazon. In very good, collectible condition it costs $75! Here.

I remember this game! I bought it bundled with Companions of Xanth & Shannara. Could never get Companions to work right, but Shannara was just as good if not better than Death Gate.

Yes, I plan on hanging on to my boxed Death Gate. smile

Companions of Xanth runs perfectly in DOSBox, by the way (as do Death Gate and Shannara). smile

Shannara is designed by Corey and Lori Ann Cole from Quest for Glory fame for those that do not know... Legends Games just are class acts form start to finnish.

Thanks for this. Great review.
I like the way you review older games and less well known games that people might not be familiar with.
I wonder how well games like these two would work on a platform like the Nintendo DS.

Death Gate is my favorite adventure game from Legend. Later I read the entire Death Gate Cycle as soon as I got my hands on it (which was quite a few years after playing the game).

I never realized that Legend people had something to do with the Unreal engine.

"Legends Games just are class acts form start to finish"

I entirely agree !!

Every one of their graphic adventures was a winner as far as I am concerned praise

Loved Death Gate - both game and books! I even had a doggie named Haplo, who passed away last year at the age of 15.
