Hello, I'm new to Divine Divinity and trying to learn the ins and outs of it. Currently, I'm putting everything I collect on the floor in an empty house. However, I've heard you can store them in chests and possibly barrells? I've tried dragging items into the barrel, but when I open the barrell it's not there.

Any advice?

I don't recall barrels, but I know I would keep chests full of goodies in abandoned houses that I set up in.

Have you tried an empty chest?

Oh Sharon, curse my bad memory. You can store things in empty barrels. I put the barrel into my inventory and then carried it to my room, and then put the item in and it was always there. But somehow (I think I forgot to put my sword away)I kept busting the barrels when I was trying to see what is in there.

There is an archived help thread Here , another one Here and another Here and there are several more if you search.

Game Banshee also has a lot of good info on this game.

luck and have fun!

I don't remember the mechanics of opening a barrel but you can store your items anywhere. In the beginning I just littered the floor of an abandoned house in the first village but later, after I discovered teleporters, I just littered around them. That saved me a lot of trecking from personal space to merchant, etc.

That's what I did, LFL. I put the barrel into inventory, took it to my abandoned house, set it down and then tried dragging some items into it. They didn't show up in the barrel. I must be doing something wrong. I'll keep trying. I'll also try to nab a chest or two and try them.

Speaking of teleporters... I have the scroll the wizard gave me for the mages teleporter, but I can't figure out how to activate it. I left and right click, but nothing seems to happen. Do you remember how to activate them? I've read the manual but it only says they need a scroll to be activated. crazy

I had a ton of barrels and chests in the place where I chose to live.

I can't remember the name of the place but it was in Rivertown and it had a big teleporter right in the courtyard.

To move the barrel from where it is to your place you have to drag it into your inventory.
Then you can take it out of inventory and place it on the ground at your place.
You can still store stuff in a broken barrel but I just didn’t like a messy looking barrel to store in.

To open the barrel to look inside you have to make sure you don’t have your weapon in your hand.

When you open the barrel a window will open up which is the inside of the barrel.
You then open your inventory which opens a second window and you drag your stuff into the barrel .

The same goes for chests as for barrels for opening and storing.

If the barrel or chest is to heavy once you have it in inventory you have to teleport with it in your inventory and then take it out of inventory to place on the ground at your place. You will not be able to walk with it.

I even placed all the important stuff into chests to teleport with me at the last area of the game so I could have it there to use. You can not come back from the last area if you forgot anything. I would save the game before ringing the gong so if you did forget anything you could go back in a save.

It will be a long time before you have to worry about the end area but just keep saving so you have a way of redoing if you need to.

As for the scroll, I don't remember for sure but I think you may only need to have it in your inventory when you click on the big teleporters that are on the ground. Someone may correct me if I am remembering this the wrong way.

Hope any or all of this helps. smile

OH OH....I am really tempted to start playing this game again...but wait...no I have to many games installed as it is...darn.

Thanks, VHLMagic! That helps a lot! I didn't realize I had to drag stuff into the barrels window. I just kept trying to put it into the barrel on the floor. What a do-do!

Does it do anything when you activate a transporter? I mean is there an effect to show it's been activated? Maybe it's because I've been trying to click the scroll on the transporter that it hasn't worked. I'll try just clicking on it.

Thanks! happydance

Once a teleporter is activated it will show up brightly on your map.

Thanks! It's activated now. When I step on the transporter a map of Rivellon shows up, but naturally, there is only one activated transporter so I can't go anywhere.

At present, I'm wandering around the outskirts of Aleroth, trying to map the whole area. Of course, I keep having to repeat sections because I end up getting killed.

I had gotten further before, but I decided to go back to an earlier save because I came confused about some of my quests. I've been reading the archived threads on this game and I know I need to mark on the map where I need to return to complete the quest, which I had not been doing. Plus this gives me good training.

I can now put items into containers and know how to activate the transporters so I feel much better about the game.

I've started exploring the next area - the farmlands and so forth and I keep dying! It wouldn't be so bad if I could for heaven's sake remember to save more often! slapforehead

Another thing is I keep losing one of my pyramids. It wasn't till now that the bright idea of going back to the other pyramid and teleporting would find it for me. idea Instead, I've been going back to previous saves and re-doing large area's. hardwall Oh well, it's all experience! And I'm becoming more organized with leaving flags at places that give me a quest.

Just wanted to let you know how it is going. smile

Sharon, a hint about what else to flag on your map: I used to put flags with character names over all the various houses and locations, also over chests that I couldn't open yet. This ended up being a great reminder if you had to find someone again to finish a quest. Once the quests were done the flags can be removed to unclutter the map.

Great tip Rowan!

Another question, once you clear an area, do the orcs and trolls respawn?

(I had another problem, but I've solved it. I finally found the barrel containing the explosives in my inventory. I couldn't see it before!)

No respawning! zombie Isn't that great? If someone shows up in a previously cleared area it just means you missed them the first time around.

Sharon, I did the same thing the first time I lost my pyramid. Save save save and there is a quick save too.

Good news, Misslilo! I might try Beyond Divinity later on. It's going to take me a long, long time to finish Divine Divinity!

I have another question. I have found only 2 black potions (invisibility) so far and I used one of them for the supply train quest. Is there a way to make more? I have level 2 in alchemy. Or, does anyone know where I can find more? I'm going to use up my last one for poisoning the orc well and I'm not sure one will do it.

Have you been to Verdistis yet? There are many merchants there. I'm sure one or more of them will sell almost any kind of potion.

No, I haven't been to Verdisti yet. I think I should probably go there first as I do want that invisibility potion and I would like to upgrade my weapon. Also, I have a lot of stuff to identify and maybe sell. Thanks for the advice!

I found out how to make my own invisibility potions. You just add the yellow potion to the blue. Now I have several. And as it happens I haven't had to use them yet. I was able to fight my way thru to the orc well and poison it. yay

Although, I haven't been able to fight the orcs to the southeast yet. They get me in 1 or 2 shots. I'll just have to come back for them.

In the meantime, I'm going to report to General Alix and then take care of some of the quests in the farmlands and southern areas. After I head for Verdisti/Merchant area to trade in and organize some of my stuff. Really enjoying playing this game even though I'm not particularly good and I keep having to repeat areas.

I wander what level I need to be to go back to Aleroth and take care of the troll king and his friends there in the cave?

Thanks for everyone's help and advice. wave

Sharon, glad you figured out the inivisibilty potions.

I remember several areas that I had to leave and come back later when I was stronger.

And remember, do not go to the castle until you are ready to loose your transport stones. Do everything you want to do before you accept that invitation.

Verdistis became my headquarters for trading. There's a teleporter there and I stored some of my stuff in the chests near the smith. One of the merhants became my favorite place to trade for enchantments and skill books. There is a thief, too, who has a steady supply of lockpicks.
