Last night while exiting a game which I was running under Win 98SE in VPC, I mistakenly clicked on the MSN internet icon on the Win 98SE desktop, which started up the "Welcome to MSN internet access" screen. I've tried clicking cancel but may have mistakenly clicked OK while trying to click the cancel button - anyway, this locked up and I can't get out of it and go back to my Win 98SE desktop in VPC.

I'd appreciate help in getting back to the Win 98SE desktop so I can enjoy my games again.

P.S. The computer I'm running this VPC on is a netbook with no internet access (not sure)? since I got this netbook from a family member.

Does it let you Alt-F4 or Control-Alt-Delete to close the MSN thing? I think there's somewhere in the VirtualPC Menu where you can click to send a Control-Alt-Delete signal to the OS inside VirtualPC.

Or according to ***this***, the Right Alt key + the Delete key will send a Ctrl-Alt-Delete signal to the OS inside VirtualPC.

My netbook doesn't have a right alt key, but anyway I pressed the left alt + enter and I got back to the normal Win 98SE desktop but now the guest OS is locked up, it's in full screen mode so how can I do an "action > ctl + alt + delete" to reset it?

EDIT - I tried pressing Fn + alt + F4 to exit full screen mode and go back to windowed mode but then although "action" at the top of the console windows is active, the "ctl + alt + del" is grayed out. (my netbook's function keys won't work unless I press the Fn key at the same time I press a function key) After I pressed Fn + alt + F4, a dialog box came up asking if I wanted to save or cancel; clicking cancel makes it go back to full screen mode, locked up. clicking save saves it but then closes the VM in a saved state but then when I click Start to open the VM it goes back to full screen mode.

EDIT 2 - I struggled with it for a while, got the little dialog box where you can click "end task" - Task master? on my host netbook up, highlighted VM win 98SE, clicked "end task" then I clicked another tab (don't recall what it was) but do recall that I clicked Shut down. The host netbook shut down, I pressed the power button to restart it, then clicked on VPC, and restarted the guest. The guest did its "not shut down properly" scan disk (Yay - anything to get out of it being locked up!) and then it started up normally, and it's back in it's good old normal working order - I went to the Win 98 Start > shut down; it shut down normally. I restarted it, the guest was still in its good old normal working order, so I went back to its Start > shut down, it shut down normally.

Soooo - it looks like I finally fixed it.

Press the red X to close the VM (and select Close)? If you can't move the mouse to it, then you haven't installed the VM Additions.

You can press the right Alt key to return control to the Host and do the same (press the Red X)...

If you can get to the Virtual PC console window
that shows the list of your Virtual Machines,

File --> Options --> Settings -->
and highlight Keyboard in the list

will allow you to change the Host key to a key
your netbook actually has.
