Not sure which forum this should be in ,but the wonderful moderators will make sure to let me know. Somewhere in casual games ,someone (think it was a moderator) mentioned that they put all their games on an external HD. I looked but couldn't find it. Could someone help to explain how I would do this to all the games on my Vista machine. Last year I bought a "My Book Essential Edition"320GB, and don't know what or how to transfer the games. I just don't know how this works-and if I can do it, maybe I could clear the mess that have on the Vista, ie duplicate games in different folders etc. Thanks to anyone willing to explain to this old lady.

I have all my casual games on an external HD and play them from there. I use folders listed on that drive just like the internal drive, with games, or casual games being 2 of them.

If the install allows you to designate the destination, list the drive letter for your external drive and folder (if you use one). If the install does not ask for destination, let it install and then go to your program folders and copy the whole folder to your external drive. However that last option I have used with XP and am not too familiar with the Vista/7 program folder yet, but it should work just the same.

It does work the same in Windows 7, so I assume it will in Vista also. You can copy and paste or simply drag and drop from one drive to another.

Sarahandus, have you found the completely nifty feature of Windows 7 that allows you to open up, say, your C:\ drive and your external hard drive as AZhot has. Then you grab the C:\ window and drag to the left of your screen. When your cursor touches the edge, it "snaps" the window to fill half the screen. Then you do the same thing for the external hard drive window on the left and voila! You have your two windows side by side and can drag and drop or compare or whatever! Love it!

No Draclvr, I haven't found that little trick yet. I bought the book Windows 7 Inside and Out (have the XP version too) and read something about the "snap" trick, but I'm still wrestling with just the basics, and at this stage it will be a loooong time before I give up XP - if ever. Getting too old to make such drastic changes as these in 7, by the time I've figured out one thing I've forgotten the last trick and have to start all over again.

Oh, I still have my old XP drive too and will probably never quite give it up! It's taken me a good 4 or 5 months to feel really comfortable in Windows 7, but it took that long when I went from 98 to XP too.

Thank you for answering and saying I could put all my games on an external hard drive, but I have one more question.
On the Big Fish Game Manager I have 300+ games , will I have to move them individually or is there some way to move them all at once???

Or do I have to move them from my "program Files" folder one at a time???
If I could straighten this mess that I have on the Vista, life would be beautiful once again.
Thank you in advance of your reply.

Whether they work or not after you move them is going to depend on whether they depend on entries that may have placed in your registry when you installed them. If you just move the folder, any registry entries will still be pointing at the old location on your C: drive. I don't know how many of your games require registry entries to run. I don't think the Big Fish Game Manager will be able to find them if you move them, but you may be able to start them by browsing to the game folder in the external drive and starting them from there.

Thanks Jenny100 & all, that's what I get for not learning about some of the workings of a PC back in 1988(my 1st computer) instead of just playing games on it. Somehow I knew it wouldn't be as easy as just "move them". Time to call in my PC guru.
Thanks all!!!
