That's a shame that the Dracula sequel will be a casual game; I was really looking forward to playing as Dracula. frown Oh, well, I will wait for more information before I decide now.

Yes it sounded like a great idea for an adventure game. I enjoyed Dracula Origin and would have liked the same format for the sequel.

Oh, boo! I'm sad now about the 'casual' part..

I had so enjoyed the first Dracula Origin... sad

CSI NY was such a far cry from the other CSI's that I gave my copy away. frown

Why do they do this to existing Adventure franchises, instead of simply starting a brand-new line for each casual game series? I hate when they spread a franchise over both genres.

Well mj2c, obviously you have never played a Frogwares game, because they are far from cheap or lazy whether they are casual or adventure.

Ive played loads. These houses usually go from full games to casuals because of cost, no? Certainly not for artistic merit:-)

They switch to casuals because they sell better, not because they want to cut back on their talents. Frogware casual and many other casual developers produce top notch games.

With admittedly only partial information, my "take" is that the developers are making less and less money on disk versions of games, so that a higher percentage of their income is now coming from the download portals.

Many of the download portals don't distinguish between price -- so that (for instance) at BigFish, a full-fledged adventure game that cost (again, for instance) half a million USD to create is the same price as a casual game that took ten thousand USD to create.

So for a rapid infusion of cash (and who doesn't need that in the current economy?) it makes sense to make two or three casual games or even two or three episodic-like games, rather than one long, elaborate adventure game.

Just my guess.

That's sad news for those of us who prefer the long, elaborate adventure games. I hope we will still see successful adventure games being made, that they don't dwindle down significantly. frown

To support full adventure games on disk, buy lots of them, especially directly from the developer or the publisher.

To support full adventure games in general, the best way is probably to buy the download versions directly from the developer if you can -- that seems to be most efficient way to "vote" your preference for full adventure games and it gives them the most direct cash infusion.

Again, just my opinion based on what I'm seeing.

"To support full adventure games on disk, buy lots of them, especially directly from the developer or the publisher."

I've been doing just that (mostly) for over 15 years yes

And I certainly intend to carry on - for as long as disk versions remain available yay

15 years is a good long stretch! lol I've been buying them about that long too. And a lot has changed since we started doing that.

If there's a determined community buying full adventures, whatever the purchasing venue (I personally buy from all venues, including Big Fish and other online portals and online stores, the individual developers, and the brick and mortar stores), I'm convinced that developers will keep making them. One trick up our sleeve is that I think the developers enjoy creating them almost as much as we enjoy playing them.
