Thanks. I'll tell him. I guess I should probably learn how to do this stuff myself smile

Hi crc, welcome to GameBoomers.

Make sure to left-click on the footprints and spill stain while you're looking at them through the lens, so that Holmes will comment. Keep clicking & adjusting the position of the lens if Holmes doesn't comment straightaway.

Persevere with the measuring tape until Holmes says the shoe is a size 13. Left-click-hold and stretch the tape from the tip of the toe to the edge of the heel.

luck If you still have problems let us know.

I had the same problem with the tape. After a total of 30 minutes in four different sessions, I finally gave up and uninstalled the game. It obviously was not going to work.

Glad you're progressing now, crc. thumbsup

We could have helped you with a saved game, Gobobby. smile At least that way you could have played through to the end.

Jen, did you manage to locate your folder with all your other game saves in it?

Once you've found that:

- Save the file e-mailed to you to your desktop.

- Make a note of the current last numbered save in your game folder, i.e. save_23.jpg

- Renumber the save file on your desktop to follow on from your current last save, i.e. save_24.jpg

- Place the renumbered file into your game folder along with all your other saves.

- Exit the folder, start up the game as usual and load the new save. You'll need to scroll back to the beginning of your saves to find the new one.

I thought my saved games were under the save choice in the main menu. I read what you wrote but I totally have no idea what this all means. My husband just says the saved game is in the picture of Watson. waa I'm really stupid. Is there an easier way to figure this out?

Yup, that's where your saves are when you're in-game. But when you want to place a save file that someone has sent to you into the game folder, then you have to access the folder on your hard drive.

Could we double-double-check the puzzle that you're having trouble with, to see if we can find out why you're not seeing the letters at the bottom of the screen?

Check that you have selected these two documents and that they appear onscreen as proof:

Document 1 - Plants and Spices
Document 2 - Animals

Both are pages from the Spartaca Encyclopaedia and have similar lettering.
Click on 'use this document as proof' at bottom of right page to select each document.

Then look to the bottom of the screen and see if the letters have appeared.

My husband went through the entire hard drive and couldn't find the saved game anywhere. Where are we supposed to look. I'm about ready to start the game over. What screen resolution do you suggest I choose?

As mentioned in my original e-mail with the save, another member using Vista found their save folder here:

C:\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Sherlock Holmes versus Jack the Ripper

If you re-start the game you may only find yourself with the same problem when you reach the decoding puzzle again. Did you try all different screen resolutions? Did you try solving the puzzle again using the tips in my above post?

I chose every resolution that game had and still couldn't see any letters.

I just had a thought - make sure that your files and folders are showing, and not hidden.

To unhide all folders, here's the procedure which works for XP, hopefully is the same for Vista:

From Windows Explorer choose "Tools" from the menu, then "Folder Options" then click the middle tab "View". You may have to scroll down a bit, but look for "Show Hidden Files and Folders" and click the box.

Then look again for the save folder.
