Unless I'm blind I saw nothing in the manual so I figure i quit and it just saves it for me; but no!
If that's the case it's going right in the toilet.

cazzie, lots of folks have the same issue... anytime you play a game and can't find the Save menu, it leaves you uneasy.

However, your comment about "a couple sentences in the manual might have helped..." made me look at the Game Manual. Here is what is in my Ubisoft URU Game Manual:

"FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: How do I save my progress?
A: Uru will save your game automatically. You may continue your game from the last Journey Cloth touched by opening the Linking Book and turning the page. There you will see the Hand symbol of the last Journey Cloth touched. Click on it to continue. If you need to start an Age over, simply remove the book (see page 15) and pick it up again from the pedestal.
Please note – you will not be able to save until the Linking Book is found. You will need to pass the Cleft/Desert area."

You may be right... there is a different manual for "Complete Chronicles" than for "Ages Beyond Myst". In Complete Chronicles it's on page 18 in the Frequently Asked Questions page.

In "Ages Beyond Myst" they elude to the use of Journey Cloths as saving where you'll return, but it obviously caused confusion so they added the FAQ in the latter version to make it clearer.

Here's what the Ages Beyond Myst manual says on page 17:

"JOURNEY CLOTHS
In some Uru Ages, you will find a number of Journey Cloths like this one. You’ll discover their primary purpose later, but they have
another handy function, as well.
The last Journey Cloth you touch in a particular Age becomes your return location to that Age.
From your Relto library shelf, select the Linking Book you wish to link with and touch the Journey bookmark that’s inside."

Anyway, it's a great game... if you don't have the expansion packs "To D'Ni" and "Path of the Shell", you should make sure you get them! They add a lot to the game.
