To view the new Screens of the upcoming game "The Filmmaker" by Christopher Brendel Click here. January 1, 2010 To celebrate the new year, Christopher Brendel has released several new screenshots of his upcoming game, "The Filmmaker". In addition, Brendel has set a tentative release month of March, with beta testing beginning late January. For details, fans may visit the game's website at www.unimatrixproductions.com/filmmaker. Development has been completed on "The Filmmaker" for several weeks, but the game's release has been continually delayed as a result of incompatibilities with Windows 7. These compatibilities, however, are currently being worked out, and Brendel wishes to assure fans that the game will be fully compatible with Windows 7 at the time of its release. In "The Filmmaker", players explore a haunted theater, in an attempt to uncover the mysteries within. As part of their journey, players must go inside several movies created by one particular filmmaker, an enigmatic stranger named Claude Ferucil. As opposed to being story-centric, as was the case with Brendel's previous games, "The Filmmaker" is puzzle-centric. By far Brendel's longest game to-date, it features more than thirty-five unique puzzles of varying types. Instead of presenting a cinematic story that develops as the game progresses, "The Filmmaker"'s storyline unfolds through exploration, puzzle-solving, and reading. "The Filmmaker" has been rated "Teen" by TIGRS Independent Game Rating System. You can download the demo here for those that do not have Win7. Happy Gaming! Something to look forward to kick off 2010. :happydance12: Ana

Thanks Ana just downloading the demo now. Tried to play the demo but I get a error message. I get the welcome screen and the start game, and the error message comes on. To long to explain. Good try anyway. Richard

I'm glad to see this is coming out--it sounds great, but I'm still waiting for Stonewall Penitentiary. Wonder what ever happened to that one? The website still just says "coming soon". Dawn Edited to add.... just further explored the Filmaker site, and Stonewall Penitentiary was briefly mentioned under the "news" section of the site.... "Some fans may wonder what this means for Unimatrix Productions's ongoing project, "Stonewall Penitentiary". Production began on "The Filmmaker" specifically because development on "Stonewall Penitentiary" was put on hold, due to financial concerns. Christopher Brendel wishes to reassure fans, however, that work on "Stonewall Penitentiary" will be completed, following the release of "The Filmmaker"." So, hopefully it will see the light of day soon!! We all need to buy The Filmaker so he can acquire the funds to continue Penitentiary!!

Good try anyway. Richard What operating system are you running? If you are running Vista, you'll need to run the game "as an administrator". Otherwise, post your error message and I'll help you through the issue! To those asking about Stonewall Penitentiary: After The Filmmaker is released, I'll figure out what to do with Stonewall Penitentiary. The project is important to me, and I can't wait to complete it!

Where does one find adventure in a puzzle-centric game? First person too I'm guessing from the screenshots so no great character to be found there. No Gabe, no Kate, no Max and Nina, just me? I don't think so!

I don't think so! I'm with you, to be honest. My personal preference as a gamer is for character-focused games with lots of story and dialog, etc. But I acknowledge that there are just as many people who prefer exploration and puzzle solving as there are characters and story, so, after having made two story-focused games, I want to try to make one for those puzzle gamers out there! All of that having been said, The Filmmaker DOES have some character interaction, similar to the interaction in games like The Blackstone Chronicles.

I'm sorry, CBSection31, but I didn't see your post until after I finished mine and I did worry about what I said because I didn't realize when I posted that you were the developer of the game. I didn't mean to make it sound as though I thought the game wouldn't be great to play, because as near as I can tell more gamers will like it than not. Seems like more gamers are getting interested in puzzles than in wandering around from place to place, stealing inventory to stuff in humongous pockets, which is somewhat ridiculous actually, but lots of fun for those who aren't all that brilliant at doing those tricky puzzles. I'm old school when the adventure was in exploring places to see what wasn't nailed down and to try to guess just how in the world it would ever be useful. Talking to characters who would help only after some problem of theirs was fixed, making it an interactive exchange rather than a puzzle thingie. I was just trying to stick up for this type of game which I fear is a lost cause these days! Anyway, I'm sure you will have many happy players with your game who will not pay any attention to my lonely voice wanting something different, not better.

No need to apologize! Like I said, I tend to prefer the same kind of game as you.

I too prefer 3rd person games with good stories, interaction with characters, and an absolute minimum of stand alone puzzles. But there are many exceptions to this - some even being amongst my best games ever. It's a good idea to play the free playable demo and find out nevertheless that the game is very absorbing. There is a link to the demo on Ana's opening post to this thread. The puzzles there I suppose are representative of the whole game. They are all moderately hard but not terribly so. There is one at the end of the demo which is very hard IMHO - but there is an excellent walkthrough which gives full detailed solutions to all the puzzles including that last difficult one. http://www.gamesover.com/Filmmaker/The%20Fimmaker%20walkthrough.doc
