Has anyone played this game? I am almost at the end where I have to open a Chinese puzzle box. It is one of those awful puzzles where three tiles are connected and you can rotate each tile but not move them singly. I can't get it put together correctly. There are always one or two tiles that are in the wrong spot but if I try to move them, the whole row moves, throwing the whole puzzle off.

I have spent the last three nights trying to do it and am completely frustrated. I can't find a walkthrough. Has anyone played this game that can give me some pointers?

thanks!

I'm playing it right now, gatsbygirl, but I haven't reached that part. I'll post again if I find anything that will help you.

I'm really enjoying this game, so I hope it doesn't get that frustrating.

Cynder,

It hasn't had the best reviews but I am really enjoying this game, too. I also liked the PC versions. It has been pretty easy up until this point but this slider puzzle(or whatever kind of puzzle it is) has really baffled me. If you figure it out and can give me some help, I will really appreciate it! Wouldn't you know that I would get stuck right at the end!

Thanks.

This sounds like a game I have to have. I went ahead and found mine at Amaazon--used my gift card from Christmas.

Gatsbygirl, I did get to it and solved it, but you're right, it can be very frustrating. Here's what I had to do:

Don't worry about turning any of the pieces green, just adjust up and down or sideways carefully until you have all the rows with pieces in yellow.

Then check out the rows to make sure the pieces are in sequence (I didn't do this the first time and it wreaked havoc. smile ). It's easier to see this looking horizontally.

Once you've done this, you can spin all of them into green, and continue with the mystery, which still has a few more twists ahead! I really enjoyed this one, and I hope this helps.

Cynder,

I will see if I can do this. I am not exactly sure what the final picture is supposed to be so that makes it a little bit harder, at least for me. I have almost given up but will give it another try tonight. Thanks for the tip and I will let you know how I do. I hope the new twists you mentioned aren't more sliders!

Gatsbygirl,

The design is of the red symbol found at all the murder scenes--the ones that looks likes a paisley design.

No, there aren't more sliders, but you're most decidedly NOT at the end of the game. There's a lot more plot to come.

Katbear,

There's no walkthrough for ABC that I found, but I think I remember most of the riddles if you need help. You could post here when you get stuck.

Also, did you know you can unlock a bonus mystery by using your magnifying glass to collect all background things in each scene?

Haven't played Inkheart yet. Is it good?

Cynder,

I tried again last night but still couldn't do it. I got almost all of the squares in yellow but there was always one or two that wasn't yellow. For instance, the top and bottom squares were yellow and or green but the middle wasn't. If I moved the whole line, the yellow/green squares went away and it messed everything up. At the end, the picture looked to me like it was correct because the lines in the pattern seemed to match but it wasn't.

What did you mean in your hint when you said to make sure that everything was in sequence? I am really stuck at this point and am extremely frustrated because I don't think that I will ever get this. Wish that these DS games had a "skip" feature like most of the Casual Games I have played.

What did you think of the ABC Murders? I was excited to play it until I read a bunch of unflattering user reviews. I also read that it had one puzzle after another and that got tiring for a lot of people. I would be interested in your feedback on this and/or any other games you have recently played and enjoyed.

I started with the top row, and treated it like a "Fruittle" type slider (this is explained in another thread on here. It's from a Facebook app called Treasure Madness, but the mechanics for this puzzle are the same.)

I just kept pulling them around until the top row was yellow, but, and I had to learn this the hard way, you also have to get the pieces in order: left, middle, and right. Once you have that, start on the next row. In order to get this row in order and sequence, you will have to slide the top ones, so be very careful not to mix them up--just slide them in order to position the next ones, then slide them back.

Once you have those rows, repeat for the third, then spin all nine squares until they're green. If you absolutely still can't get it, I'd contact Nintendo and/or the game developer, as they may well have a button code for skipping that you could enter. OR, take it into your local gaming store, appeal to the "nerds" on duty and let them solve it for you. Our stores here are loaded with "game heroes" who love rescuing those in distress. smile

As to the ABC Murders, it's okay, and you can randomize the mystery for a different culprit for replay, but the puzzles you're presented are just that--thrown in with no links to the plot, and some just silly. The mystery itself isn't that involving, since you just interview suspects and exhaust given options.

I'll do the games I like in another thread in case Ana wants to add or move it. Good luck!

Cybder,

Wow! What great help you are giving me. I have printed your instructions and will try to follow them tonight when I, once more, try to finsih this game.

I am on FB but haven't seen this Fruittle puzzle that you have referred to. I am in awe of the way all of you get through these puzzles so well. It is pathetic how bad I am at some of them but with help from all of you GB, I will persevere, I hope...

Thanks and I will let you know when I finally do it!

Cynder,
Haven't gotten too far thru Inkheart
yet, but so far it's interesting.

As for Agatha Christie's ABC Murders I'm not so terribly impressed.
It hasn't been anything at all akin to any other
I have played.
I too find the puzzles useless to the plot,
and I'm not overly fond of 'Math Puzzles'.

I'm still wanting Women's Murder Club: Crimes of Passion,
have enjoyed each of the PC ones.

I am working on Trace Memory and Hotel Dusk Room 215,
and liking those.

Cynder,

I went back to WMC Crimes of Passion to see if I could finally get through that slider puzzle. I read you instructions again for solving it and worked on it for quite awhile. I almost gave up again but was really close to getting it and I finally did it!!!!! I haven't finished the game but at least I am past that awful puzzle. I couldn't have done it without your helpful suggestions. Thank you very much!

Great Job Gatsbygirl, glad to hear of your success bravo

Well, in amendment to my original post,
I Do have this one now and am currently playing it.

However, I haven't progressed that far in the game yet.
Will try to keep this in mind,
as I too battle w/Sliders.

Finally got to the dreaded puzzle box,
and cynder, you were right on! praise

Finished, finally
It was a very good game! thumbsup

and, sorry to say, but I gave up on "Inkheart".
Couldn't manage to sneak thru the compound to rescue
Mo's wife.

katbeaar50,

That puzzle box was a doozie, wasn't it, and I am terrible at puzzles. Glad that you got through it with Cynder's help. She certainly saved me! I am amazed that some gamers can come up with such detailed help with these awful puzzles. I liked the game, too.

There are tons of DS Specific forums that may be able to help you more. More folks play PC games here.

Great idea! There are quite a few of us who play both the PC games and the DS ones. I am new to DS but really liking it. Maybe Cynder should become our resident DS walkthrough poster!

Gatsbygirl, I am new to hand-held also,
and have never played the PS2 we have for the older grands.
But I'm seeing more and more of 'our kinda games'
coming out for the DS. happydance

Ana, I have visited a good many of those sites
when stumped on controls or a specific puzzle,
but have found a # of them I wouldn't really care to re-visit.
Suffice it to say, the 'atmosphere' here is much more palatable.
And since sticking to the same genre` games we all play here,
feel we would be able to share cross-over knowledge.

katbear50,

What are some of the DS specific forums that you have visited? I have found random help at some sites but haven't found a site that seems to focus on DS walkthroughs. Like you, I had no interest in other handheld games but have loved my DS and I wasn't sure I would when I first bought it. Like you said, it is so nice to have our kind of adventure games on DS. Don't know if Playstation or the other handheld games have these same game. I have pre-ordered my XL, too and can't wait to play on a bigger screen.

I'm lucky, I found a neat walkthrough for Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney at GameFAQs and it is very helpful, at least so far. I still haven't finished the game. I'm near the end of Episode 3, so only one more episode to go!
