Does anyone remember this one? It was recommended to me by someone here-can't recall who-but thanks What a great game-If you liked American Mcgee's Alice, try this one. Very surreal, colorful and imaginative with bizarre characters.I was so hoping to find a game like "Alice", and this is it. It is a platformer and a litle difficult to manuver at times, but well worth the effort. I've made it about half way-to the "neighborhood" level. Would love to hear what you thought if you've played it

I wrote the review for GameBoomers. I enjoyed the game - it was worth the effort to finish it too.

Gremlin- I just read your review-agree with your take on this game, couldn't have described it better! The "Milkman Conspiracy" was incredible, esp. "The Neighborhood" part where you have to find your way around those weird floating streets. Now, I'm stuck in Gloria's Theater trying to defeat Jasper the Critic. The game requires a lot of patience, as you mentioned, sometimes it takes trial and error to come up with exactly the right moves, but I keep going just to see what"s next for little Raz

I just downloaded Psychonauts from GOG. The game is wonderful, but I've run into a problem fairly early. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or what. I'm getting through the obstacle course and have come to a wall where there are a series of "rods" I need to jump up and grab and then swing back and forth to jump to the next rod and on up the wall. It works perfectly to go from right to left going up, but when I turn around to go the the next higher rod (left to right) Raz won't let go of the rod no matter which key I hit. I tried going left to right from the bottom and it doesn't work there either. I'm using the default control keys with Space being the "jump" key. It works perfectly from right to left...
Any suggestions???
EDIT: Never mind, I got it! I just wasn't putting my camera angle high enough. Cool game!

Draclvr, if you ever get the chance I strongly recommend trying a gamepad for this game. I'm currently on my fourth Psychonauts playthrough, and I can't imagine trying to play it with a keyboard--I think I'd go nuts. Even though I've finished the game three times before, I'm noticing a few things in the game I've never seen. In between levels I'm taking a little more time to wander around the areas, talking to people and experimenting to see what effects my psychic powers have on NPCs (not that I ever skimped on exploration my first few times through.) As a result, in addition to some funny lines, I've also seen at least one cutscene I don't think I've ever encountered before. I've made it my duty now to go around and talk to EVERY character I can every time I finish a level, just to see what they say.

My Cyber Snipa gamepad is permanently attached to my left hand, Demosthenes! After using it for almost 3 years, I can't imagine trying to play any game without it.
I can definitely see there is a lot going on in this game that I've probably missed. But I'm loving it...

Dem. & Drac. Glad to see someone's playing this great game! Yes. I wish I had a gamepad for this one. Havn't got one yet, as I'm not a very "serious" gamer-only play for an hour or so at a time. Sometimes get so frustrated, could tear hair out, but then I just stop and go to an easy game(now re-playing Amerzone)then when I get back to the wacky world of Raz,figure out the problem. You definitely have to master the swinging on pole move-Raz needs this a lot later in the game. Now, Im in Waterloo World-what an amazing level-where Raz goes from a giant on a game board with little people and houses, then switches to small when he knocks on a door. The dialogue in this game is great-full of humor-you have to be a kid(at heart) to appreciate

I'm having a time getting past Sascha Nein's Super Censor Monster guy! But I'll probably get back at it tomorrow.
I agree - I love the dialogue!

Hi y'all. I loved American McGee's Alice. Played it with keyboard. I to have a Cyber Snipa but my hands are small and I still have problems with it.

Psychonauts is definitely one of the most under appreciated games of all time, and one of my favorite Tim Schafer games. Though you really need a gamepad, since the latter parts of the game require a fair amount of precision, and the difficulty does get a bit brutal.

Yes, Yes the moves in this game can be very difficult with keyboard-I am truly stuck in Waterloo World where you have to jump/float to a platform then over a sword to land on a platform.Have been trying it for days with no success, but always have another game to switch to when it gets too much. sometimes I feel like giving up on it, but maybe someday....??? Too bad- this is such an enjoyable game otherwise. I wish game designers would build in an "override" feature for impossible moves and puzzles!

Well... I kinda hate to say this, but if you're struggling in Waterloo, then the Meat Circus will make you want to tear your hair out. It is absolutely brutal compared to any of the other worlds. It is the final world though, so if you complete it, you're almost done

Help! I've done most everything in the Milkman Conspiracy, but went back to do the Treasure Hunt. I have everything in the real world except for the miner's head stuck in the geyser. I have Shield, but nothing to block the other geyser or any way to dislodge the head... any hints here?

Here's a hint: the head pops out if you activate shield and....think what you can do to plug up the other geyser

Holy jeepers! Now, levitation is my favorite power, but I don't see how you could have gotten that high??? Were you able to get up to a particularly high place and go a-bouncing? OK, now I recognize those rocks. I've got to go check this out...

When you find the location, you'll be halfway there. But you'll also need the other part of the mystery. Here's a clue.

Of course, one of the side-effects of the enormous red arrow I drew is that it distracts you from this little section, which is the key to the whole mystery.

I climbed up to the top of the post in the GPC where the challenge marker was and I can see where your point of view might have been. Plus I was up on the rocks and saw the crow at the top of the one pointier rock, but for the life of me I can't get to a vantage point up there! I also can't figure out what the sparkly thing is by the crow either...
My brain was already fried after doing our taxes, so after spending about an hour trying to figure this one out, I will cry "uncle!"

It's not like I really gave you much to go on, given the complexity involved. This whole mess involves understanding how the telekinesis power functions (or, as in my case, stumbling across a "glitch" and working it out later.) Unlike some of the other powers, Telekinesis roots Raz in place until the player lets go of the appropriate button. If he's in midair at the time, Raz will fall straight down until he hits the ground. The camera, however, focuses not on Raz (like usual) but on the person or object you're moving with your mind. This is true no matter how far away Raz happens to be at the time: to compensate, the camera just zooms out a bit so you can see Raz in the corner of the screen. Then there's the crow. If you climb to the very top of the nearby rock tower, you can see the crow, but if you stand there you'll find the crow is too far away for your powers to work on it. Using the levitation power you can jump almost high enough to touch the crow. Almost. By jumping that high, you also just barely come close enough to use your psychic powers. Near the peak of your jump, you can use various powers, such as pyrokinesis, but unlike the other birds in the game, you can't actually harm the bird. On that note, the orange thing floating above the bird in the picture is Raz's Telekinesis power in action. Unlike the other attack powers, it lasts as long as the telekinesis button is depressed. Since you can't interact with the bird, the bird stays rooted to the spot rather than lifting into the air. Normally if you just jump up above the cliff using levitation and use telekinesis on the bird at the peak of your jump (just after landing on the cliff in front of the bird), a glowing orange hand appears above the bird, and Raz falls straight down, back to the top of the cliff. The total distance between the bird and Raz is only a few feet, so nothing unusual happens. But if you jump a little to the left before using telekinesis, then you'll be hovering over the edge of the cliff. When Raz falls downwards, he lands on the sloped wall to the left of the cliff, and then slides all the way into the valley at the base of those tall trees in the picture. As long as you keep the telekinesis button depressed, the center of the camera remains fixed on the bird and the glowing hand. But because Raz is so far away, the camera zooms way out in order to include him in the picture (even though he's actually behind a wall at this point.) You can even rotate the camera, which rotates through an enormous swath of the forest (and the GPC) as it attempts to keep both Raz and the bird in the frame. I haven't tested it just yet, but I suspect the same trick will work for any sufficiently tall object with an interactive character near the top of it (such as the top of the lodge, during certain parts of the game.) [EDIT] Actually the crow may be a special case. You can't use telekinesis unless you're on the ground. So you have to land on the conveniently sloped grass in front of the crow, then use telekinesis while sliding back down. Land a little to the left, and you'll slide past the cliff. There aren't many places in the game where a character stands on a cliff that's too steep to stand on. For some reason.

This world is massively confusing for me! I'm almost through it and am about to take on the final battle for the Queen of Spades. I admit I resorted to a walkthrough to make sure I didn't miss anything. I think I finally know where everything is, but it took awhile!
Psychedelic, for sure!!

Hello drac- I defeated the cobra finally after umpteen tries and much grumbling and groaning. How did you do?You got the confusion badge didn't you? That is a must for the cobra. Have you tried the next battle yet? It looks even worse-I'll wait until tomorrow to tackle that one again. Meanwhile, back to an easier game! I went back to Sasha Nein's lab and the brain tumbler-now all the little doors are open except one-that must be the last level-Yippee!

Good for you!!
I tried several times Saturday night with no success and haven't had time to go back to it yet. Yes, I did get the confusion badge and the upgrade for it. I'm sure I'll get him one of these times!
EDIT: Hah! Finally got the big dummy! But, now, Yikes! It's on to El Odio!

I defeated Edgar the Bull in the first part of the battle, but lost the 2nd part where the matator comes out AAArrrgggh! then you have to start all over again, at which point I gave up and got dinner. Lost is on TV tonite, so I will try again tomorrow-let me know how you do Drac! Updated 4 days later-still haven't managed to defeat the matador yet. I find the controls are too clumsy(maybe its me) to shoot him with the spear quickly enough. My patience runs out after about 30 min. of trying. Later:Yyyeessss!!! I finally beat him-onward and upward to the upper floors

I've defeated Edgar too, only to get killed by the Matador a couple of times. Had to quite playing to work on outdoor gardening which was calling my name quite relentlessly. The roses have taken their revenge by making me look like I went 10 rounds with Edgar!

Wellll-Hello there! I too have been missing in action for a while-made it to Dr loboto's lab way at the top of the upper floors of the asylum- A real struggle to get up there-horrible attack rats that throw confusion bombs and tricky places to bounce/jump/swing to and easy to miss and eeeeewwwww@@@111 fall waaaay down to the bottom again. I took rests in between and played a Nancy Drew game. Now I'm trying to get up courage for the next battle.

Progress update: I finally got past those pesky rats to the top of the asylum and got all the brains turned in. Got up the courage to try the tank battle for at least 1 round before giving up, but now I know what strategy to use,at least I might add: I have played several RPGs with battles, but this one has by far the toughest and most frustrating battles and moves that I have ever seen. This is going slowly because some days I'm playing another game-don't know if I'll ever finish his one.

I'm with you on this one, bigmamma. I've been doing a replay of Avencast and going back to this one now and then. I also have massive amounts of gardening that are keeping me away from my gaming for days at a time. Hopefully it will all let up soon and I can get back to Psychonauts in earnest.

I loved the game also, but I never finished it. It got to hard after a while. I may try it again.
