For those of you who enjoyed Dragon Age and just can't get enough it looks like there's going to be an expansion called The Awakening.

According to the site it is due out in March.

Even though I am so far behind with my games that I haven't even ventured into the first Dragon Age yet

I'm also in.. I've been wanting to replay DA, but I'm waiting for the expansion, hoping I can just add it on to the current game.

I have been considering buying Dragon Age: Origins but considering the price and the fact that there's no demo...I've kind of been a bit apprehensive up to this point.

I love single player RPGs. Well...I love GOOD ones. However, I never played the Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale games to completion because I didn't like controlling more than one character. Is there any way to avoid that, or better yet...is it really so obnoxious that I won't enjoy the game BECAUSE of that?

Is the story really great and well worth forcing myself to deal with controlling more than one character?

Does it run well on Vista 32 bit? (Sadly, for the moment, I am stuck with Vista, even though Win 7 is forthcoming for this household after income tax returns...heh.) And do you guys think it will LOOK good on a Core2Duo 2.66, 4G RAM (Vista 32 bit though, remember, so it only recognizes a little under 3G of that 4), with an nVidia 8800GT?

Sorry for all the questions, but 60 bucks is a hefty hunk of change for a single player game. I just want to have a better idea of the value in story, etc.

You should have no problem running the game. I used a 8800GT and the game looked great. I was hesitant when I heard it was a party based game, but I didn't bother controlling them till I had played quite a bit of the game. Then when I did, I kind of enjoyed it. I never used the tactics. I liked the game a lot more than I thought I would. It has a very good story and the interaction between characters is fascinating. It is available for $40 at Gogamer.

I do believe that you can set your companions ai/tactics to such a mode so they basically just take care of themselves in DA: Origins.

This means that I bought DA: Origins and finally got to play this game
And it looks OK on my 2.4 GHZ single core processor with ATI Radeon 3650 graphics card..

What character are you using for your main?

Sharebear, I also didn't like the early D&D games much because I was not on top of the D&D rules, and I preferred controlling a single character.

But DA:O has a new ruleset, and doing battle with a squad is really, really fun in DA, and for me an essential part of the game. You won't be able to do the game with a solo character though, I've never heard of it being done, anyway.

However, it's always nice if you leave yourself open for new experiences, so if you do, who knows if you might not grow to enjoy the squad-based combat. I absolutely loved it, and only time constraints is holding me back from replaying at this moment.

I'm currently playing as a Dalish Elf (whenever I can, of course). I have to say the story line is the most intriguing, encompassing and emotioanal one, I've seen in an rpg, let alone in a Bioware game. The backstory and the lore for the Dalish Elves are well written as well as fleshed out in its design. And the story about the Dalish Elves is presented in a very tragic, yet emotional way.

Oh, yes, I'm enjoying it immensely, but why there needs to be a big black and white box in the middle of the screen, telling me that the game is paused - whenever I pause in combat, I don't know. It makes it harder for me to see the monsters...

WOOHOO! I am SO excited! I'm downloading DA:O as I type this. Not too long left either!

Oh my gosh. I have this feeling this might pull me away from my newfound Gameboomers WoW guild though. But after 5 years of WoW...I could probably benefit from an occasional day off or two. hehehe

ACK! lol I'm such a game junkie. I'm sure there are recovery programs for this illness (I have BAGS, rather than just BAAGS, because I buy ALL games rather than just adventures), but...I don't really WANT to recover!

Just a few days ago I was playing Dreamfall again, recently replayed Broken Sword 2, and now here I am with another game on my virtual "plate." You'd think I'd get "full" at some point, but the hunger never seems to end!

Gaming is just a really good way for people who can't get out much, to have adventures and experiences that are new, fun, and exciting. I mean...I might not be able to do some things other people do like...oh...skydiving (heh), but I can get a good safe thrill from a game and it costs less, won't break my leg, and doesn't set off my panic attacks. It's just an all around WIN situation!
