HI-

I have BF and I cannot get most of my games to download. It is NOT my computer, I just had it checked and cleaned by my tech, it is NOT my antivirus, I was able to download a couple with and without it. I am sending the message it gives when I try to download and my specs.

Message: bigfishgames_p12905364_s1_l1.exe already exists. Do you want to replace it?

If I say yes, it still will not download and go on my desktop.
-----------------------------------------------

My Specs:
Wildows Vista Ultimate (6.0 Build 6002)

Bios Phoenix-AwardBIOS v6.00PG

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2CPU

Memory 3070MB Ram

Page File: 1083MB used, 5269MB available

DirectX Version: DirectX 11

NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS

Approx. TotalMemory: 1574 MB

MainDriver: mvd3dum.dll,nvwgf2um.dll,nvwgf2un

HdAudio.Sys
Version: 6.00.60021805(English)

I do not know what to do, I havee a message on BF in casual games, but little help. My firewall is not stopping games. No luck with BF, recieved one anser, waiting for another. This is my fifth day of dealing with this. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

If the file's not going to your desktop, it's being saved somewhere else. The question is where.

Which browser are you using? Internet Explorer? Firefox? Something else?

Maggie, try doing a search for the file and see if that locates it.

Doing a basic search in Vista may not find the file. So go ahead and do a search, but if it doesn't find it, try an advanced search:

Hold down the windows key (the key on the left of the keyboard between ctrl and alt, labeled "start") and while holding it, press F to bring up the search window. Click the down arrow to the right of "Advanced Search" in the upper right to view the Advanced Search options.

In the drop-down box next to "Search in:" select "Local Hard Drives (C:[...])"

Put a check in the box which reads "Include non-indexed, hidden and system files"

In the Name box, paste in the filename: bigfishgames_p12905364_s1_l1.exe

Then click Search.

If that doesn't work, replace bigfishgames_p12905364_s1_l1.exe with bigfishgames*.exe and try again.

Good tip, Demosthenes. I tried it in my Win 7 and I didn't get it exactly like you described for Vista, but it did bring up more results than the basic search.

Something tells me your tech might have changed your default download location, Maggie. I'm thinking Vista's default download location is Documents, but I might be wrong.

HI Drac

I put bigfishgames in Search, when I turned on start. It is the only place I have search, Microsoft took it off when I downloaded SP3. I do not have run, it ran away I think smile smile . I found six games in the search and they went on fine, but did not find any of the others.Have any ideas? I only have the few I downloaded in Documents, can't find the others.

Thanks

Maggie, try Demosthene's suggestion for the advanced search. If they are on your computer, that should find them.

In Vista, Run was done away with in the Start screen, but it's still available.

Forget the Start Search.
Do what Demosthenes said and you will get a much more complete search.

You could download a program called Procmon.
http://sysinternals-procmon.software.informer.com/

If you run this it will display all file activity on your computer and will display full paths.
So if you run it then try to download your file again then the location that your browser is trying to save the file to will be displayed.

If you download it and run it, it will open a window. Whenever any of your programs accesses a file it will be listed in its window. There is also filter on it so you can set it to only display, file accesses of particular programs, for example internet explorer.

There is a screenshot on here though you might have to magnify it

Hm.

Come to think of it, Big Fish may be sidestepping browser downloads entirely. Are you using the Big Fish Game Manager to download the games?

[Edit] Meh. Tried it myself and the file downloaded the normal way. So we're back to trying to figure out where the browser's saving the file.

Whatever program is downloading will be listed. If it is their download manager and the name of its .exe is known you can put it in the filter

Ok when you run it there will be a big window and a smaller filter window. Close the filter window for now. On the main windows toolbar their are 4 or 5 icons (on the right hand side) - one looks like a filing cabinet. That one wants to be selected, the rest wants to be deselected.

Ignore above this might be quicker -
In the filter window select "Process Name" from the drop down list.

Select "is" from the next dropdown.
The next dropdown is a list of all the processes running on your computer. Select whichever one is downloading your files (BF File Manager?).
Select "Include" from the last dropdown list.
Click OK.

In the main window menu select Edit/AutoScroll.

Also select File/Capture Events.

Understand so far?

There is no word is, do not know where it is. All I have is the large window with lots and lots of files, about 300,000 of them.

In the filter window select "Process Name" from the drop down list.

Select "is" from the next dropdown.
The next dropdown is a list of all the processes running on your computer. Select whichever one is downloading your files (BF File Manager?).
Select "Include" from the last dropdown list.
Select "Add" (Missed this out the first time:-))
Click OK.

In the main window toolbar (right hand side) there are about 5 icons. They all want to be deselected except the one that look like a file cabinet - this should be selected (pressed in).

In the main window menu select "Edit/AutoScroll".

Also select menu item "File/Capture Events".

At this point the window will start filling up with info. You can deselect "File/Capture Events"
to stop it. You will then be able to browse the list at your leisure.

There will probably be info on processes you arent interested in. To filter those out just right-click a particular item and select "exclude".

The idea is to filter out the dross and focus on the program you are interested in (either internet explorer or the Big Fish DLoad Manager)

Whenever these programs access a file an entry will be added to the list along with the path/file that was accessed.

HI-

I selected Process Name and selected is, but there is nothing that says BF File Manager. Could it be called something else??

Have I thanked you, you are really helping me.

It will only be in the list if it is running (I think). It could have and probably does have a different name. Problem is Ive never used it to dont know what the name is. Someone who uses it might chip in here...

I did that and the files I need are not there, I do find 15 games, in programs, but still missing 25. That is alright, it is just frustrating, wish I were wiser on computers.

Thanks

Does anyone think it might worthwhile for Maggie to run a light registry cleaner like CCleaner just in case her games have disappeared and there are lingering registry entries that are stopping the games from being re-downloaded?

That is the light one. The question is, have you run it on the registry or just on the Windows tab?

Not sure what you mean, do I just do registry files you mean or windows tab?

maggie

I ran CCleaner on both, was very carefull not to overdue and I now have 21 games, thanks to you. I am only missing 19, no big deal for now. I have plenty to play with. Am taking my Vista to tech that I normally use this week to see if there is a problem, do not think there is, but will check and he is nice.He worked on it two weeks ago for it's yealy check up and at the same time he put in 1 Terabyte of Hard Drive, Partitioned it into two drives.

Thanks so much for your help and kindness.

HI Drac- grin

I was working with a tech from BF, I was able to get all my games on and then into a folder. I downloaded a demo of them, then it said I had paid for it and it downloaded the entire games, so did that with all of them. Just wanted to let you know..

Thanks
