If anyone is playing this game, I seem to be stuck very early. I'm outside the bar and have found a key. I also have an alcohal soaked rag. I can't get in the theatre; down the manhole; or find anything to use these items on. May I please have some suggestions? blush

Again it is proven....I am an idiot. There is a walkthrough included in the readme file. It installs when you install the game.

Glad you found the help. It is understandable to miss it the first time - not all games have a walkthrough included.

Haze, the alcohol rag is used to clean the small window in the projection room inside the theater. You can't do anything with the manhole cover until you are finished in the theater.

blush I am stuck. I'm in the projection booth and have done most of the stuff. The walkthrough says I should clean the little window with window cleaner and a rag, but I can't get them. I have a spray bottle, and paper towels, and have found a "Empty spray bottle of window cleaner" but can't seem to combine anything. I had an alcohal soaked rag, but it has disappeared from my inventory. I have been able to wander the auditorium in the dark, but still can't find anything to use on the window. the walkthrough tells me what I need but not where to find it. Any help??

Sir or Madame Haze,
You have to combine the spray bottle with the paper towel from the bathroom in the bar. Then, you can wipe the projection window. If you haven't done the proper moves to this point, you might have to go back to an old save and start over. I hope that this can help you.

Thanks Grandma, I had all the "stuff", but I never think to combine two items that are in the inventory. You've saved me stress. (By the way, it's "Sir" and I am a Grandpa. I'll bet we would exchange photographs in some other context.) [I mean pictures of grandchildren!]

Does this mean that someone will help with the Seat Plan? I am not sure of what we are doing?
Are we waiting for everyone to catch up to the seat plan and that's great.

Hi Grandma,

Oops, yes, your question has fallen behind now. I wish I had my game and was playing so that I could help, but I'm still waiting for it to be despatched.

Anyone out there currently playing - please can you let us know the location of the seat plan? thanks

Rushes,

There is a walkthrough .pdf that comes with the game. There is a VERY DARK picture of where the seat is located in the theater. You first have to click on the seat plan on the wall next to the exit door - they try finding the correct seat to get the metal rod with the ticket.

EVEN WITH the visual, it took me many tries to locate the seat. It is in the 5th row - kind of in the middle. Trust me, it is THERE - you just have to keep clicking until you find it.

The next big puzzle, the wrapping paper folding, is giving me fits, and now I'm stuck in the game too.

The seating plan is to the right of the theater exit door.

While in the auditorium sequence, I strongly suggest that you pause, go to Options, and temporarily set the gamma up a lot. This might help you from going crazy.

Is there an easy way to work the machine using the code? My arthritis is getting in the way or I just don't know how to work these tools. How do you get the machine to change the numbers? I am having trouble getting the grip on the wheels.

Grandma -

I can't figure out where you are. What machine? What code? What arthritis? A grip on what wheels? If you could be more specific about where you are in the game, I might be able to help.

Great Grandpa RonRob

------------

Grandma -

I think I might have figured out where you are. Working the robot in the sapper room? If so, read on - - otherwise ignore me.

The handle moves the robot arm right, left, up and down. The left button opens and closes the clamps on the arm. The right button resets the arm all the way to the left. The clamps must be open to move the arm right or left.

Move the arm to the first dial. THE CLAMPS MUST GRAB THE SILVER KNOB, NOT THE DIAL ITSELF. Close the clamps and move the handle up or down to rotate the dial to 6. Open the clamps, move the arm to the silver knob of the next dial. In this manner, set the dials 6812.

Hi Ronrob,
Thank you for finding the machine that I was having trouble with. I am having trouble moving the hand onto the wheels. I keep missing the wheels. Does it have to be perfectly situated on these wheels?

Grandma - - yes, I'm afraid so. The clamps can be a teensy bit off but not by much.

To make fine adjustments, you can't hold on to the handle when you move it. The arm will move too far. Just click on the handle without moving the cursor and then rapidly flick it left or right, letting go of the mouse button right away.

If you release the mouse button too soon, nothing happens. If you hold it down too long, the arm will move father than you want it to. The trick is to flick and release, flick and release. With some practice, you will get the timing down.

None of this applies to moving the handle up and down to set numbers on the dials. No timing skills needed for that.

I mean things on the laptop that you use instead of a mouse. They are at the bottom middle of the computer and you somehow move them with your hand. In addition, I also mean the arrows that go up, down and from side to side.

Stuck in wang's lab using the scanner on the card.
I've clicked on the front and back of the card so many times but I can't get the right combination.
Looked at the WT but no help. Is there a way to do it better. Maybe somebody has a save.

Which walkthru did you look at? The one that comes with the game has no explanation. Take a look at the walkthru posted on this (Gameboomers) site for a full explanation.

Unless this task is randomized, the solution is not too bad.

Display the back of the card and select the circle second from the top. Make sure all other circles are inactive.

Display the face of the card and select the circles at the top and the second from the top. Make sure all other circles are inactive.

Now click "Analyze." Unless this is a randomized puzzle, you should get reports of 5 murders.

Sorry, I have no save to send to you.

-------------

Ooops . . . I just saw that you got it already.
Ignore my other post.

Happy gaming!

Thanks for your kind words, and you are welcome.

I liked the game, too. The Art of Murder series, the two Chronicles of Mystery, and Culpa Innata are among my recent favorites. I like dialog and an intriguing story line.

Let me know if you find another good game?

I am at the pier trying to walk on those darn posts. Here is how I am trying to do it. I walk on the three posts forward and then on the right one. Poor Nicole keeps getting eaten because when I get to the right, she says that the post isn't high enough and she wishes she had something to hold it up. This is the first post series. What am I doing wrong? Have all the walkthroughs.

Grandma, you need to pick up the lamp and then place it on the post behind you (to the right). Then take the can and the basin. Place the basin on the submerged post ahead of you and then place the can on the basin. Now you can hop across.
-------------
Oops, I just realized you are at a different place. In answer to your actual question, as Nicole is talking, you see a post rising up out of the water. Put your cursor on it and be ready, When she says, "I wish I could move it up," click the post as quickly as you can.

Grandma, if by "jump back and forth" you mean jumping back to a post you had already been on, I don't recall ever needing to do that.

No matter - - you made it across both ponds! I became alligator food about 6 times before I finished my map sketch of posts to avoid.

I'm in the theater after the train/car accident, trying to secure evidence. I've done everything that the walkthrough says to do - taken a picture of the symbol, the card - and secured it - the clipping, the seating arrangement in the theater, taken the reel of film....but when I try to go out the door she keeps saying, "I might have missed something". Now what?

Just got done on that part.

Inside the theatre:
Picture of the sitting plan. Take the film and the projection tube.

By the train:
Picture and take Jack of Hearts card.
Picture of the symbol top of the box.
Picture and take the newspaper inside the box.

How can I get past the laser puzzle in the factory? No matter where I turn the knob, the factory blows up, and the knob won't stop between the diagrams.

Melia,

Please use the original thread you posted on. This way we can follow your gameplay better.
You can find all your posts at top of the page under My Place. Thanks.

Laser - be sure that you have seen that piece of paper beside the laser control.
Then you can see 2 different ways that the laser can be arranged.
One of them is what is the arrangement now - see that the laser from the control box goes up to the top floor.
Do the other one - this one has the laser from the control box going across to the other side of the building. BUT one problem - the turbine cover at top of the second generator is blocking the way. See if you can do something to make the laser path go through that blockage.

Then you can turn the knob of the laser panel to the one on top.

MaG, I lost the original thread. Don't know what page it landed on, so I used this one. Sorry.

In the meantime....it worked! Thanks.

Got another problem. The fire extinguisher runs out no matter how fast I try to work and when the cover's off, it's out so I can't cut the wire. Any suggestions?

Edit: Never mind. Turned out I was cutting the wrong wire.

Hi, I got key to work on padlock in restroom at bar, now I'm stuck at the theater trying to open the curtain on the stage. Everytime I turn the wheel I put the pail with the bricks on handle to stop it from turning, the curtain doesn't open all the way. Can someone help me? Has to be an easier way.

Thanks

Turn the wheel again until it holds. Then hang the bucket with bricks on the wheel handle

OK. Now I'm trying to click on the red, blue and black wires in the junction box to put them in the terminals where they belong....but the !@##$% things won't move where I want them to move! I click and they jump and stay in place....sometimes. Sometimes they don't move or click at all even though I've got a hand icon telling me that that's where to click. Sometimes they actually move to where I want them and then when I try to move the next wire, the one I succeeded in moving moves back. Arg! Help!

Be sure that you looked at the drawing clue at the back of the cover first.
Then arrange the wires:
- click on the chosen colored wire and then click on the junction it should go to.
- do this to the 3 wires on the top row.

Double check the text label of the one you are clicking on --- wire --- junction.

The card analysis puzzle bugs me.

There seems to be no prior logical clue to hint at the proper combination of interest points on both sides of the card to be selected. Figuring out that there must be a total of only 3 interest points is straightforward. However, beyond this, is this puzzle supposed to be purely trial and error?

You can narrow down to fewer choices by assuming that you must take at least one point of interest from each side of the card and that two points should be taken from the front side of the card (as opposed to the back side) since this is the face that should be of more forensic interest. Even with this grand assumption, this still leaves {5!/(3!x2!)}x{4!/(3!x1!)}=40 combinations to try out [I'm using factorial notation here to write out the full combinatorics).

You may argue that some patterns on the card may be preferred over others when choosing, but this argument is too farfetched even when compared to the above assumption.

Your right i dont think there is any hints for it, so its all trial and error i found the solution pretty fast but its such puzzle that can makes you crazy cause u really want to figure it out yourself instead of just checking a walkthrough.

But this is far from the worst puzzle in the game.

DaveHT, I recognize the factorial notation for combinations of x objects taken y at a time. I started the trial and error process from the top down, though, so I hit the right combination fairly soon since the 3 circles of interest are at or near the top.

Hi Shugz,

Do you have both photocopies taped to the map board, one over the other?

Did you completely filter the sound recording, hear the music and discover which radio station the music was coming from?

Did you speak completely to Dick - he should have mentioned the radio range of 60 miles.

luck

I guess I need another copy of the map then.

OK im stuck again.. It's saying that I need to twist the filler cap (with a wrench) I don't have a wrench no more. I placed the lit cig in the pipe at the top, placed the the pipe back. Placed the fishing line on the lever of the right and the belt round the wheel thing. Everytime i click on the bet it's telling me to tighten up the filler cap..

Did you remove the filler cap from the container you used for the fuel, and replace it on the fuel tank? I've just played that part, and when I replaced the cap I didn't need to tighten it any further.

Hi Disney,

How far have you gotten with the folding? Have you peeked at MaG's walkthrough HERE, it has screenshots of all folding stages.

When you initially take the cap off from the tank you need the wrnech.
Then you take it off and place it on the metal cover and get kerosene.
Then you pour kerosene in the tank.
Take the cap from the metal cover and place it back on the tank - You do not need the wrench for this part.

In the You tube movies - the sequence is as I and Rushes stated above.

Presumably, you have the lever since you tied the line on to it.
You have the lit cig inserted in the tube.
You have started the whoe setup using the belt on the axle.

Please replay and see. luck

I think the game has gone screwy or something because I have '2' filler caps!

Gee. Best to go back to the start of the shed and replay the whole setup again. That should clear the problem.

Hello MaG,I'm trying to scan the playing card. I've scanned the front of the card , turned it over and scanned the back. But after the shooting test for Wang and Nicole I went back to the laboratory and used the Wang's terminal but I can't see the back of the card on the computer, just the front. I rescanned the front and the back of the playing card a few times but nothing doing, just the front of the card is showned. Can you help me please? (I did report to Ruth about the shooting exercise before returning to the lab.) Is it possible thet there are some bugs?Sorry about disturbing you with my problem; I've found what I did wrong. I was taking off the playing card and reversed it and put it back into the scanner and used the scan for a second time;but I just had to clic on the card with the right side of the mouse while it was still in the scanner, close the top and pushed the blue button. Then Nicole said:"I've scanned both sides of the card". So I can continue the game. Just explained in detail so other members could have the same problem. Sorry about that. Sali

sali, did you beat the shooting game yet? Your prize will drop down for you to take, and along with it the yellow plastic tile which lands on the counter - you can't miss it.

This is really wierd. I was expecting a load of posts about the the "seed" puzzle and havent seen any. Came to it yesterday, looked at the walkthrough, messed about with it for half an hour - no success. Today I tried again - flicking between the pic in the walkthrough and the game and not only can I still not solve it I cant even get a *single* piece in the right place. They seem to be at a different angle to the ones in the pic. Anyone spotted a more detailed solution? I get the feeling this is just one of those puzzles I have a blind spot for.

Hi mj2c,

Double-clicking on a piece will reverse it. Once I discovered that trick, it helped me no end. (Right-clicking will rotate, but I'm sure you know that already.) luck

Hi MAKA, welcome to GameBoomers.

Right-click on your screwdriver in inventory to examine it in close-up. Then pick up one of the tips (in this case the round tip) and click it onto the screwdriver while still in close-up. The two items will combine. Now you should be able to use the screwdriver.

sali,

I am having the same trouble with the playing card in the scanner, too. I can't turn it over to see the back of it. I have read the walkthroughs but I keep getting messages like "so many active areas require long analysis and I am not that patient" or " I need to check out more areas" or asomething like that. I don't understand what you did to get through this part. I have tried it several times but keep getting the same results.

Thanks.

From walkthrough:

Open the scanner. Place the card inside. Close the lid and press the blue scanning button.

Open the lid. Right click to turn the card over.- while it is still in the scanner. Close the lid and press the blue scanning button.

Open the lid and take the card out. Close the scanner.

Look close at empty evidence bag. Use the card on the evidence bag to place it inside

Hey everybody! First time poster, long time reader on this forum! smile

I seem to be stuck in the lab, I can't leave because Nicole keeps telling me "I should leave everything as it was, otherwise Wang will be picking on me again". I just analyzed the seed and the box wrapping. I have the two maps printed out and in my inventory. The scanner lid is closed, I have the tweezers in my inventory and I can't put them on the worktable or where the microscope is, it doesn't seem to be an option. The microscope's light is turned off. I can't remove the sample from the microscope, again that doesn't seem to be an option either. The box wrapping is secured in a plastic bag in my inventory and I can't leave it on either tables.

I have no idea what to do, I've tried everything I can think of but nothing works. Nicole refuses to leave the lab. I've read the two walkthroughs on here, followed them through and neither address this problem. I also checked out the walkthrough that came with the game and there is no mention of leaving something as it was before I exit the lab. I'm about to give up on this game because I can not progress. So, this is my last hope. Any suggestions? Has anyone had this problem?

Maybe I am in the wrong place. I scanned my fingerprints and then tried to use the cards. Should I be using a different scanner because I can't turn the cards over in this one?

Hi sayra, welcome to GameBoomers. Hmm, I'm not sure what your problem here might be, either. Would you like a saved game just past this point?

gatsbygirl, you're at the wrong machine. Where you're at currently is the database where you examine what you've scanned. The actual scanner is the machine just to the left of the server rack.

Thanks Rushes! After lookig at all of the walkthroughs, I finally got through this part. Now I am at the Sapper and I can't get the joystick to work so that I can manipulate the robot's arm. It won't move. I can't talk to him again because it says something about not having anything to say. Any ideas about what I might be doing wrong?

No,I wasn't and that helped. However, I can't get it to go right to the dial so that I can put the number combination in. The arm stops right before it or goes beyond it. It alsmost seems to freeze and I can't move it even with the click/hold movement.

Later you will see that you want it to move slow when you try to position it on the gear wheel.

Hi Rushes and MaG! Thank you so much for your replies. Here is the list of things I have in my inventory:

Magnetic card
Victim pictures x 5
Files on Benson
Printout with company offices locations
Printout with plant occurrence areas
Tweezers
Evidence bag (empty)
Secured Box Wrapping (The wrapping of the box in an evidence bag)
Protective gloves

I tried enter the lab without talking to Wang and I still couldn't leave, even if I had not given him the box wrapping or done anything at all. I think I might end up accepting your kind offer Rushes, if it's not too much trouble for you.

Is Wang still in the lab with you? In my game at this point he's nowhere to be seen. I also appear to have the same items as you in inventory and am able to leave the lab.

I'll send you my last save before going down to the Monitoring room and hopefully that will get you moving again. Check your e-mail in a few minutes. luck

I noticed you had the green marker in your inventory but I didn't have it in mine so I gave it a try and picked up the marker before entering the lab. But, nope. Nicole still refused to leave the lab both before I talked to Wang and after he was gone. So weird.

I must be doing something wrong. I opened the claw and closed it on the lock. When I tried to move the lock to put the numbers on it, using the joystick, the joystick wouldn't move. I then tried to move the claw over a little thinking that I might not have it positioned it exactly right but couldn't do that either.

It is a picky puzzle - so do it slowly.
Click-hold-move the joystick up or down.

Hi Mayrae, welcome to GameBoomers.

How strange! I wonder what's causing this problem, if it's a glitch of some kind.

The save's on its way to you. smile

Is it possible for me to get a save just after that point as well?

Rushes: I'm having the same problem that Sayra had in that I can't leave the lab. Wang has already left and I completed all the tasks that were supposed to be done. I just cant leave the lab. Here's the list of inventory items (same as Sayra):

Magnetic card
Victim pictures x 5
Files on Benson
Printout with company offices locations
Printout with plant occurrence areas
Tweezers
Evidence bag (empty)
Secured Box Wrapping (The wrapping of the box in an evidence bag)
Protective gloves

Can you send me the same save as you sent Sayra? Thanks.

What fast service. Thanks. I just got your email and replied back that I didn't see a Games Folder in My Documents. I tried looking in Program Files/ Art of Murder but didn't find a save folder there either. I'm not sure how to get the save you sent into the game....

Do you have XP or Vista? If you have XP then the folder should definitely be in My Documents, labelled as Art of Murder - Cards of Destiny. Maybe scroll right down to the bottom of My Documents, if you haven't already. If you have Vista, the saves may be somewhere else, you might need to do a file search. I'm not familiar with Vista.

Let us know if you still have problems locating the folder. luck

Hi Nancy, yes you'll need to open that key cabinet somehow. Examine it very carefully, there may be another way to get into it.

Did you play the shooting gallery game yet? The prize you win there will help with solving the cabinet puzzle.

Hi bnklngr, welcome to GameBoomers. Could you tell us where you got your game from?

Hi Rushes: Remember me? I was stuck in the lab after getting the seed put together and printing out the 2 maps. I couldn't get Nicole to leave the lab as she kept stating she should tidy up or Wang would be mad or something. Anyway you sent me a save game so I could leave the lab. The problem with that save was that it didn't have the 2 maps (company office locations and plant occurrence areas) in inventory. I played on with this save but then needed those maps a bit later. However, they and the seeds weren't in my inventory. I tried to go back to the lab but couldn't get Nicole to re-do the part with the microscope/seeds and the scanner/wrapping to print the maps. So I guess I need another save from you in which Nicole has both maps of Louisiana and the seeds in inventory. I'm following MaGtRo's walkthrough so I'm on page 20 where Nicole is supposed to leave the lab and go down to the Monitoring Room. In my game I just can't leave. Can you help me out again? Thanks.

Does anyone have a saved game for Cards of Destiny that will get me past the robot arm with the combination lock? I have tried it numerous times but when I close the clamp and try to put in the combination, the joystick won't respond or when it does respond, it opens up and I can't put in the combination.

Thanks!
