Now I really feel dumb! I BAAGed this one in 97 (or 98) when it was first released. Played it more than once. Filed it away in my archives and have now the d/l from GOG, checked all 3 walkthroughs, my original discs and box/es and cannot find anywhere how to QUIT/SAVE/LOAD the game. I would like to save where I am now but don't know how and cannot exit the game by the usual means, ESC or any "F" key or the spacebar. Someone please rescue me from this memory lapse and thank you so much, you are my lifesaver!
Love, Betty Lou

Betty Lou,

Download and check the Riven manual here.
Hope that helps.

I'll add a quick answer to augment MaG's Game Manual find....

In Riven you need to move your cursor to the top left of the screen to cause a file menu to appear. From here you can Save, Load (I think they use a different term, like "Retrieve" for "Load"), and Exit as well as select a couple game options.

When starting the game, it always starts at the beginning, and from the beginning you can use the menus to "Load" a different save.

Cheers,

Dadguy

Thanks Mag, I did not find that in my original box. Thanks Dadguy and Rushes too. Apparently I did not wait long enough when I moved my cursor up to the left top corner of my screen, it seems to be taking a long time for the "file" etc bar to appear so the trick here is to wait until it shows up then I can use it. May be because of the opsys used to create the game originally and now it is being played on my XP - small price to pay to be able to do so I guess.
Thanks much - and besides the 3 walkthroughs I also have the original "strategy guide" that came with the game in 1997, nice book.
Love, Betty Lou

I very dimly seem to recall that I spent an awful long time first time I played this (and every time?) I tried to get that gate room rotater placed in just the right setup position so I could go somewhere else. And guess what, I'm still stuck here trying to get the open gates to open for me. I have restarted this one so many times so I could start out with the openings at the beginning, have made so many trips up and down those stairs on the left to the locked wood gate and in under it and back that I had to have lost 10 pounds just today alone. I don't know how to describe where I am now, don't know what to ask for help with, and will keep trying to get the "combination" right. Don't suppose anyone has any ideas to help me? I like to ask for the impossible once in a while, get's me noticed lol

Berrt Lou,

Have you checked the walkthroughs?
Here's one by Graham that describe that part with a drawing. That might help.
