Meet Calem Bour, our resident PUNdit. Calem will test your ability to recognize a pun. Each of the answers is a "Re" word (get it?). The answers will begin with the letters "RE" and will involve a play on words. [See q.1 for further instructions].

Instructions Continued:

Take careful heed of the key words in each descriptive paragraph. The pun often involves a central element of the construction.

EXAMPLE: Panting heavily, Mr. Bour's maintenance crew completed the refit of the church's steeple. Which word came to mind when he stood there trying to catch his breath? HINT: 8 letters (v. pret.) ANSWER: respired
breathed = respired and steeple = spire

[NOTE: pret. = preterit, meaning past tense].

-1.Calem Bour was gathering his unused odds and ends for an upcoming garage sale when he stumbled across his old Schwinn. Waxing nostalgic, he hopped on and took her out for a spin. Being rather punny, he preferred to call it "bipedal movement". The following day he sold his neglected Schwinn to someone who would get more use out of it. What did Calem say he'd done with his velocipede? (8 letters (v. pret.))

-2.Mr. Bour once fancied himself a cattle rancher. One day a young maverick was injured, its side split open after an unfortunate incident with a blundering bull. After taking "stock" of the situation, Calem sewed up the poor calf. What word did Calem use to express what had happened to the calf's internal parts? (8 letters (v. pret.)) r-v---ed

-3.One blisteringly hot day, Calem decided to visit the local ice cream parlor. After enjoying his creamy dulce de leche, he moved towards the exit. But he made it only a few steps out into the heat before he backtracked and ordered himself a second cone. What would Calem say he had done? (9 letters (v. pret.)) r-t----ed

-4.A few short months ago, Mr. Bour had undergone refractive eye surgery. He was initially pleased to learn that he had a correctable vision problem, especially since it gave him the opportunity to employ another of his favorite witticisms. What did Calem say had been done to correct his myopia? (8 letters (n.))

-5. In his youth, Calem worked as an electrician with a rather frightfully unsightly co-worker, Dwight. While out on a job one day, Calem suffered a near fatal accident when he was electrocuted. Fortunately (or not), Dwight was there to resuscitate him. Nonetheless, when Calem regained consciousness and realized what had just occurred, he experienced a curious mix of emotions. What one word did Calem later use to sum up his feelings about Dwight bringing him back? (8 letters (v. pret.))

-6.Calem's electrocution caused a power failure, but he was still out of it after the "shocking" experience. Dwight restored the power. What word did Calem use to describe the wretched Dwight as he worked? (9 letters (adj.)) r---l---g

-7.When Calem Bour strolls along the beach, he often takes his sketch pad along to capture his "impressions". His method is somewhat peculiar. He will walk several steps, carefully copying his footprints in the sand. Then feeling as though he hasn't done his art justice, he will turn back and copy them once more. What would Calem say he has done in these situations? (8 letters (v. pret.))

-8.Calem's lady friend once declared that she needed a plastic surgeon to amplify her posterior. Horrified, Calem jumped from his "seat" and argued against the procedure, proving that surgery could not improve upon her natural symmetry. According to Calem, what did he do? (8 letters (v. pret.))

9.One of Calem's favorite puns came to him last Halloween. Calem donned his monstrous outfit again, but his friends complained that he had used it the year before. How did Calem say his friends responded to his reuse of the costume? (12 letters, (v. pret.)) r----str--ed

-10.Calem Bour once tried his hand at composing a ballad. After completing two verses, he decided to rearrange the order. What did his action entail? (8 letters (n.))
