I wonder if anyone has a game save. I am in Mirkwood, going through the log tunnel. When I jump down, to my right is water. To my left is a wall with a couple rocks I can jump on to get to the wall. In front of me is a trunk with goodies. I cannot defeat the enemy on either side.

Does anyone have a saved game they can send me? Draclvr sent me one but I can not get it to work. I am playing on XP. My saves are saved as Mirkwood, hers are named Flies and Spiders. I need Mirkwood.

And just a note here. I'm thinking Bets may have a slightly different version of the game as my saves are completely different that hers. In this section, my saves are called Flies and Spiders... She tried changing the name to match her game (Mirkwood), but it must not have worked.

Mine is Version 1.2 in the 2 CD set. The game is not patched. I suspect Bets may have the game patched to Version 1.3.

I will try downloading the patch and applying it so see if that changes anything, but it may not work on existing game saves.

I noticed in the readme for the 1.3 patch that it "updates the naming convention for saved games." The 1.3 patch says it updates 1.1 to 1.3. I tried to update my 1.2 to 1.3 and it said I couldn't.

You can see what version your game is in the first splash screen when you start the game. It's possible you have 1.1 version and a patch would change your saves to match mine. Why don't you start the game and see what version you have...

I just restored my Hobbit files from a backup drive, they are the same as yours Drac. I wonder is I will ever finish this game!!

There is too much on that first screen to take it all in. My first screen is gold writing on black. Is that where the version is?

That's the screen - my version is in the lower right corner away from all the gold print. I grabbed a screenshot if you need it.

I didn't see a version but it says 2003. I'll try it again.

I reinstalled mine, don't see a version in the splash screen either, but when I right clicked the disc in My Computer it says version 1.2 patched, June 2005.

Restarted the game, saw it this time, 1.2 in the lower right hand corner. Now to figure out how to get my last August saves where it will see them. Only one showing now is the first one.

Aha. Thanks Hawka. When I went into the readme file it said Version 1.0 I must have the original. Now, if I put in the patch, will it work with the saves that I have? Or, do I have to (horrors) start all over again.

Aha! I thought that might be it. I'd patch to 1.2 since that is what I have and rest assured that I have over 200 saves which will make you happy - including the one just after defeating all the horrid minions by the raft in the water. Let me know if you need a save too, Hawka.

I don't know what I will need yet, I just pulled the most current ones from my online backup and I got them into my current Hobbit folder. I just don't remember what I was doing, I can't believe I am still in Spiders and Flies, shudder.

I downloaded it then got a dialog box that said - This file contains invalid data. What does that mean?

Bets, I downloaded the 1.2 patch from these two other sites and ran them both through my anti-virus software and Malwarebytes. See if one of them will work.

Okay, I downloaded the patch from Brothersoft and now cannot even open the game.

Edit. Rebooted then started the game from My Computer. Opening screen gave me version 1.2. Hit load game and still came up with Mirkwood. Now, will your saves work if I put them in and change the file name and number? Don't have time right now as need to get dinner started.

I think that might actually be a good sign. It might mean all you old saves are still there. You might try playing the game after the patch is installed and doing a save before you jump down to fight the minions. See if it saves as Flies and Spiders. If it does, you should be able to put my saves into the folder and play from them. Fingers crossed!

Been painting all day and need to get cleaned up and go bowling tonight. I'll check in later this evening.

My 1.2 version does not save when I quit - you can only save at a "save pedestal" in the game. I can't remember where a save pedestal is before you take on this particular battle.

Woo hoo, indeed!! Don't know anything about the 1.3 patch except it supposed to be for the 1.1 version.

Let's just say the new bowling ball I got for Christmas is making my team mates VERY happy!

Now that I have Hobbit reinstalled I found I am back stuck with those ramps where you have to push the switch and hurry back before the door closes. For the life of me I can't remember how to stick jump. I think I wasn't using my gaming keyboard or I am drawing a blank.

I don't remember, but will check it later. I suppose if some are playing the game, we should start a new thread in the Dark Side forum.

I think so too as the save game issue seems to be resolved.
