Hi all,just a thought - is this game easy and short or long and hard ? i want to start this game now and go on and play "black mirror II " any thoughts on this ? thanks deleterman..

I found it to be a glitchy game on my computer and the controls were sometimes difficult.

I found the controls a little tricky at first- but I did learn them and became more comfortable with using them-- there were a few hard parts--action-- stopping the dogs and the spider part--- but I did enjoy the game.

I hated the controls, but the game is well-worth the trouble to get used to them. ...Very creepy game and I liked it a lot.

Hi. I don't know what I was thinking when I bought this game. (actually both of them) Had forgotten about them, but decided to give it a try. I am in chapter 2, have put the code in the keypad and have now unleased a mad dog. Can't get around him, can't kill him, (not too good with the pick-axe), what can I do beside quit the game? Not sure I would mind doing that!

Sneak? Hide? Distract him with jerky (no, really)? If you crouch (Ctrl) in the shadows and remain still, the screen will take on a blue hue to let you know you're hidden; just don't look at any enemies directly or you'll start to panic! Most of the baddies' patterns are pretty easy to figure out, and avoiding them is usually your best bet. If worse comes to worst, hop up onto a crate while you get your bearings; he won't be able to reach you, if you're careful. You can take a few swings from up there, if you're feeling brave.

Dogs are common in the first game, sad to say, though Black Plague removed combat entirely and settled for the rare stealth/escape sequence, and there aren't any enemies at all in Requiem. Loved the series, myself, occasional frustrations aside (mostly related to the finicky physics!).

You can sneak by nearly all the dogs, maybe all. I hit a couple. There aren't that many. You can also make the swing easier by changing a line in the ini file from false to true or the opposite.

And if things go really wrong there are cheats online , there is a mini cheat very useful for killing dogs that changes the way you swing your weapons, simply modifying one original file, I don't remember but I think it is one of the .ini files.

Thank you all for your help. I finally got back to the game yesterday and got passed the first dog, made it to the tool shed, got my items and tried to go forward, only to find another dog! Now, where is the board that is hiding the entrance that I need to saw and go thru? Secondly, how do I get past this dog? I am not good at all swinging the pick-axe and even worse when being hunted by a vicious dog.

Can anyone tell me how to hook the ladder on the hooks in the tunnel? I'm not sure if I'm in the precise location, 2 hooks above, and I have a real problem getting the ladder hooked. A moment ago the ladder disappeared, was no where to be found, so I quit.

I got the box in place but I dropped the piece of ladder and again it is gone. It must be a glitch. If this continues to do this, no way can I get the ladder in place. Any advice?

Terri824, I'm pretty sure that you can go to youtube and watch a video walkthrough for this game, just type in Penumbra Overture in the box. There are quite a few parts to the walkthrough so you will need to check for the two parts that your having trouble with.

I have already seen that on Youtube, at least one video. I keep dropping the ladder and it just disappears. I tried the short piece but I get the message it's too short, or it won't reach, I forget.

Well, it appears that I did get the crate in place but again had a problem when I dropped the ladder, it disappears! Also the game is running a bit jerky and is making me a little dizzy so I think I am finished with all I'm going to do.

Ok, I lied.........I got the ladder in place and have now come up against another problem. I am so slow and can't seem to get the boulder in place fast enough. If someone will say there are more major problems yet to come I will uninstall the game. Meanwhile, any hints on the boulder?

Are you in a part where you need to put the rock on a conveyor belt?

This is not an easy game, the controls are very often frustrating and there are several time sequences with no much time to spare. If you are used to action games eventually you will manage, if it is one of the first of that kind you play maybe is better to keep until you have played others first.

I played this game years ago when I had some experience in action, not much, and I liked the game a lot, enough to deal with the frustration.

Hi. Thank you so much for wanting to help me. No, I have just gotten the ladder in place and gone into the tunnel with the spiders. I have tried to roll the large stone in front of the opening but am a tad slow. Any suggestions? I do not like action games and bought this by mistake. Sometimes I purchase a game because I like the graphics.......what a dummy, perhaps I'll learn!

This certainly is not the best game to start playing action. I used to be an adventure only player, later I started RPG, some of them are not to difficult, and now I play shooters.

You need to run fast and immediately you pass the hole with the planks to break the planks.

I think my first taste of "action" was with Indigo Prophecy, I hated that game. Thought I'd end up in ER for sure, too stressful!
I am a tad confused. What planks? I've not seen any planks! I think in one direction there are spider eggs and the other there are some type of lanterns on the ground. I did see the video on Youtube but, that kid was pretty darn fast, he had youth on his side. Should I call it done and move on, or give it a go?

You seem to have the ability to choose action games with very complicated interfaces Indigo Prophesy drove me crazy, interesting idea but IMO terrible controls.

HERE there is a WT that may help you, I don't remember much of the game after so many years.

It seems that I may have resolved my problem whether I meant to or not. I went back into the shaft/cave from the tunnel with the spiders and it appears that I will have to do the ladder and crate thing again in order to get back to the tunnel above the cave. That save is gone! Does this make sense?

Oops, I guess I didn't explain it very well. Not sure how to put it....I went back to the previous area(cave with ladder)and for some reason my progress was lost. The spiders were after the cave with the ladder. I don't understand why going back would have interferred with the saved game with the spiders.

Hi, Terri, don't have much time I am at the library and almost out of my alloted time.
But- saying that- there are different saves-- when you go to load you can load different saves- hope you understand. and if not I hope some one can come along and explain better. The spiders are a very tough spot hope you can get past them. It was the hardest part for me.

Hi Winfrey. Hope all is well with you. Yes, I realize I can load different saves but all the saves are from a week ago or later. It's as though it dropped the new save when I went back into the cave......... Just loaded the game again and this is rather odd, I'm back where I should be, I am too sure that game was not there the other day, because I scanned thru all of them.

Hi L4L. I think you're correct about the glitch. I don't think I will ever finish this game, it's been on my pc for months and I forget how to manuever around after not playing for a while. Need to go back and practice swinging the pick-axe before I can proceed.

Yes, those controls definitely take some practice to get used to.

This is about the glitchiest game I have played. At present I am trying to move the crate and am having some difficulty getting it in place not to mention that this game is giving me a headache and making me a little sick. Are there any shortcuts in this game? Any major hints?
I think I will quit for now and try to re-coop.

Hi L4L. Nope, still trying to get the crates lined up and having some problems getting up on them. I can't play this game for very long, it makes me sick, literally. Yesterday I had the shakes after playing, I may have to abandon it. Do you remember if it get's any more difficult?

Terri, I didn't play that one..I played Black Plague....the spookiest game I think I have ever played!

I did struggle with the control system though.

I bought the two games and had put them back to play later. I may uninstall Overture and try the other game. How difficult were the controls? I'm bad about purchasing games and sticking them back and by the time I play them they're old. LOL I'mmmmmmmmmmmmm Baaackkkkkkkk. I am in the Hydraulics 101 section of the game and am trying to get out the door (must be barefoot ,because I'm not moving fast enough) I haven't been able to get rid of any of the spiders but just keep running. Anyone got any hints on this? I've made it to the door but it's only about half opened. Thanks, Terri %0

Now........I am in Chapter 3, Part 1. I am looking for the locker room. I've gone into the tunnel but have been attacked by spiders. So for, I have not been able to kill any of the mad dogs or spiders, I can't seem to hit the board side of a barn, is there any help out there for me? Someone mentioned an INI file, I haven't a clue what or where that is. I'm having a lot of problems picking up items from my inventory, what is wrong with this game? The developer should have already had a patch for this, it's horrible.
Also, is there much left to this game? Please tell me I'm at the end of it!

Thanks again Presto! I am now out of the frying pan and in the fire. I am trying to get passed the steam on the grids. This game is giving me a headache.........any clues or hints for this section?

Those grids were a pain in the rear. I know it took me about 10 times before I got through that part. It really is a matter of timing it right.

You might want to check out Helloween4545 on YouTube. He's got a Let's Play of Penumbra Overture which is excellent. If you look at his Painkillers Solve Everything (Set 7 Part 4) he tackles the steam grids.

Why do I get the impression that I have many miles to go in this game?

Oops, new problem. I don't have the code and have no idea how to get back to the lockers and am asking myself, do I really want to? Is there a quick fix for this? Please say yes!
Thanks to Helloween 4545 I was able to get through the steamroom. I think he had to go back for the bolt cutters, which I had, but no code!

Unfortunately I do think you'll need to backtrack to Shaft 13 to pick up the blank note in the locker. If you managed to kill all of the Bad Satan Dogs on your way there then they should still be dead on the reverse trip. Actually they will have disappeared. But they will be gone nonetheless. Just go thru the hole in the wall from the mine cart crash.

Alternatively you can try just heading to Section C and try using the code on the door. I'm not sure if the game requires you to have picked up the blank note and viewed it under the UV light in order to trigger the code or just knowing it would work.

Helloween4545 is one of my favorite Let's Players and it's always fun watching his videos.

Thanks again Presto. I had already tried the key pad but apparently not only did you had to have the note but you had to have read it under the UV light. Now I am trying to out run the Worm and I don't think it would be a problem if I weren't running in mud or sand. What is the deal with this game? Sometimes it runs smoothly and other times I can barely move. This is pathetic! This might have been a good game if you could control the movements.

I am so finished with this game! I was disappointed in the ending, wait...........is that the ending? Being a glutten for punishment, I installed the next one, Black Plague.
