A "moment of silence" would have been greatly appreciated. I noted this game appeared in a few of your lists, so Rushes kindly told me where to get it. Help My Bob! (I don't know what that means, but I believe it is a Scottish saying for when one is in distress). The reviews on Amazon weren't glowing, but it was cheap! It wasn't my cup of tea at all. So much travelling and talking, talking ,talking..ad infinitum! It would take for ever to arrive at your destination (why was the lift always on the ground floor even though no-one else was in the building and the microwave took two minutes to zap a two minute meal!) and when you arrived you got to do some more talking and then you had to guess where to return to, to do some more talking. I enjoyed Culpa Innata(?)and that was quite verbose but sorry guys I don't see it as a top twenty game. What did I not get? Please note these are not the views of The Management

Aw, a shame that you didn't enjoy it. It's one of those games that really needs to be played when one is in a chilled, laidback mood, so all the dialogue can wash over you/sink in and it doesn't really matter how long it takes to get there. I'm replaying it right now, as a matter of fact, and am deliberately employing this tactic. lol

But! - I do wish there was a map feature so that Peter could jump from place to place without all that confounded running and Satcar hoohah. I'm with you there.

Did you still manage to finish the game?

It was the story that gripped me. I empathised with both Peter and Debbie, and wanted to see how things turned out for them. I loved exploring all the different locations.

I'm still playing and WILL finish. I am playing with the walk through in the background so that I know who to talk to next. My heart sinks with "Can I ask you another question?" which leads to "May I ask you something else?" I much prefer inventory based games and LOVE that feeling when you pick up an item that will continue you on your way (or not!) P.S. Why does Debbie never look at Peter when they talk? More conspiracies?

Debbie is spying on the naked neighbour in the apartment across the street, that's why she never turns around from the window.

Just kidding. I don't know why, either.

I played it long time ago and loved almost every minute of it. One only loves it if one gets completely immersed in the story, feels his frustration seeing that the world is not the paradise he was made to believe.

He is rather naive, at least at the beginning of the game and even later when

Click to reveal..
he walks holding his mobile phone when he knows they are looking for him

Today's mobile phones are going slowly the way his is. I hope the world doesn't. eek

In a way it is like an interactive movie.

The best thing about Moment of Silence was the story. I can't remember much about the gameplay other than it seemed to take a long time to accomplish anything -- in part due to the time it took to move around. I thought the story made up for shortcomings in the gameplay though. And the theme of how easily information can be controlled if everything is in electronic form was one that has some relevance in real life, as well as what mcc mentioned in his spoiler.

I liked the graphics, the puzzles, and the plot but I do remember thinking it had too much conversation. Overall I would recommend it to other gamers though.

I wrote a review on Amazon for "Moment" in which I referred to the game as a literary adventure game exactly because it had a lot of dialog. The game did an excellent job of using dialog to advance the plot and fully reveal all of the characters as would be the case in any good novel. The absence of puzzles also contributed to the literary aspect in that you just keep playing the game as you would keep reading a novel. How many novels would you read if you had to solve a puzzle every few pages? I think it possible that some adventure gamers become a little disoriented by a game such as "Moment," and several other games, in which you just keep playing and you wonder where the puzzles are because puzzles have become such a staple of what are referred to as adventure games.

Gobobby,
I think your definition of a puzzle is too narrow. Moment of Silence certainly did have puzzles. Some involved inventory, some involved figuring out where to go and when, some involved deciding which characters to talk to or what to ask about.

Also many novels -- especialy mystery and detective novels -- have puzzles as well. You may not be required to solve them to finish the book, but many readers do enjoy trying to figure out the solutions before they actually read them in the book.

I played M o S years ago and liked it. Although years ago I had more patience for lots of dialogue and long treks, but it seems like the accelerating pace of the real world is mirroring the pace I want to keep in adventure games. I no longer have the patience for dialogue and treks. I'm not sure I would like M o S if I played it for the first time today. Except that the story would probably keep me interested...Good story. smile

Moment Of Silence is still one of my favorites even though I found silly faults with it (you can't swim from the Hudson river to the Pacific ocean). It's still a beautifully made game that plays smoothly, never crashed and other than the mentioned weirdness on swimming, I found no faults with it. If only more games played so well.

I may have to play Moment of Silence again. Isn't there a sequel coming?
