I don't know where to post this. I can't decide if this problem I have is the result of a buggy game or I've missed something.

At any rate, I've met the seer and tried to revive the rooster but it seems I need Smokey. The trouble is, I can't get into the cellar. There's no hotspot on the trapdoor.

Here's the thing.
Click to reveal..
When I found the flail propped against the door, I already had the bag with the strap in inventory so I used that to fix the flail. But I couldn't leave to go back to the swamp! Our hero decided he was hungry and whaddaya know, his breakfast basket was sitting outside the house again. And when I went inside, there was no hotspot on the trapdoor to the cellar. Well, after that happened several times, I resorted to the walkthrough and decided I shouldn't have had the bag before I found the flail so I replayed it and found the flail first. Then tried to go get the bag. No hotspot on the trapdoor so I couldn't. Great. I went back, let him eat the breakfast, read Alia's note again, and was able to head back to the swamp and continue the game.
But now I'm in the fix I described above and, as I said, I don't know if this problem is the outcome of that earlier one or if I've plain missed doing something.

Any help much appreciated.

Gil.

traveler ...

Have yoy talked to the father at the inn about everything? Also you have to clean your home to find the key..Sometimes before you can advance you have to do certain things in order for other task are active..

On the trap door do you see a hot spot for lock? It should say Pantry, and there should be a spot that says lock.

Also before you met the seer...You should of opened the pantry door...I don't know how you could have met him before hand ...

I went back into the game...There is no way you could of advanced to see the Seer...Unless you had the scented mask to get into the swamps...There must be a glitch...If you need a save game ...I have one where I just found the key to the pantry on the chair...

Yay, this seems like a bug frown I suspect you have Windows Vista or Windows7? We got similar reports from Germany. The problem is that AGDS engine we used fort the game was the same version as Nibiru uses and is utterly outdated. We have contacted the authors of the engine but got no results so far. They have told us that the only solution is to have save after problematic pasage so if Darleen here offers a save, that would be a way for you.

I am terribly sorry for this inconvience, back a the end of the 2007 when we have finished this game these bugs were not aparent, because WinXP was the most used system frown

Thanks tol for letting us know of the problem.

Thanks also, Darleen, for the offer of a saved game. smile

I sent the two saves...

One> is Save1..The other is Savepic1...You need to put both files in the game folder..
Just unzip into that folder.

Hopes this helps you to progress further in the game.. luck

Darleen, thank you. That was so kind of you. But problems, I've still got 'em.

I have no idea what to re-label the saved games since I don't see any saves in the game folder.

As for the mask, yup, I got it. I saw the magician/witch, got the water of life, met the seer and found out the only way he'd help me and then went back to the house for Smokey so I have played this far. It is possible, I suppose, that playing from the earlier save point where I found the key and unlocked the trapdoor will let me go on in the game. If I can collect Smokey!

So, do you have any idea where the saves are for TOH?

Many thanks, whatever happens,

Gil.

Btw, yes, tol, I have Win 7, 64-bit.

@traveler
I am afraid you may run into more problems like this on 64-bit Win7 since that engine is really, really old :-(

Anyway the saves should be in the folder game has been installed. If you don´t see them, maybe they are hidden and you need to set hidden files to be visible.

Ah, well, no save games to be found, tol. I already have all my files set to be visible. I give up.

It's okay, it was fun while it lasted and if you ever make an adventure game that Win7 can play, I'll certainly check it out.

Gil.

I don't know anything about windows 7 or where you would find the save game file folder...On windows XP the folder is in program files..

Maybe someone that has windows 7 can direct you to where the save folder is..

So sorry..

Whoops! Darleen! Tol! Richard! I have energized the rooster and stopped the slug invasion!

I don't know what I did right, but here's what I did. I uninstalled the game, got rid of all the saves (for which you have to answer yes rather than no) and hunted down any trace of the game left on my computer except the install files.

I reinstalled the game in a folder in My Documents that I named TOH since it had been installed in Program Files(x86) before and I didn't want to chance a problem with Program Files.

I installed only the 3 downloaded files, not the patch. Didn't make much difference to play since they spoke English and I just turned off the Italian subtitles.

Anyway, I had none of the problems I had before (other than having to listen to a couple of long-winded characters again) even though I just winged it and didn't refer to the walkthrough.

Btw, the saved games are there in the My Docs folder. Evidently there are two for each save.

Yesss! Now I'll see how it plays while my fingers are crossed. <g>

Gil.

Great traveler--I so glad you got it to work. Nothing wrong with looking at the WT. I didn't need it on the first part but I needed it later on.

@Traveler
I am glad you did not give up on us and made it running!

Do you have the old saves with that glitch by any chance? It would be a great help for us to have it for trakcing the bug down (seems the bug is in the saving on Win7, so once you have saved the game, it should contain bug forever and we can identify it) and maybe find a solution for this general engine bug.

Tol,

I'm sorry but I never could find any saves when the game was installed in Program Files(x86) so I don't have any old saves to send you. If they were there, they were totally invisible despite my telling my computer not to hide any files.

With the game loaded in My Documents, it plays very well and the save files are all visible though I did encounter one glitch. When Olaf was sent "in a flash" to the temple in the ocean, the visible screen shrank to an area about 2 x 3 inches in the upper left corner of the screen. I opened Task Manager and closed out, then opened the game again, played from the save immediately before that and the game continued without a hitch.

I'd really like to help you, though, so what I can do is reinstall the game in the default location and run it as administrator. Perhaps that would make a difference in finding the save files if the problems start again. Otherwise, if you know anyone locally who's running Win7 64-bit, you could have him/her install the game in Program Files(x86), the default location, and take a look yourself if they have trouble. (As I said, the first problem I had was on the return to the farmhouse for the flail.)

It's a fun, interesting game (although Olaf's buns are something else <g>) and it would be nice to have an answer for the troubles it has on Win7.

Gil.

Traveler- thanks for the offer, but I think that won´t be necessary. Chances are that you´ll run into similar problem somewhere in the rest of the game. If you do, just store all saves somewhere for me and let me know, please :-)
