Just wondering what fantasy Nancy Drew adventure ideas people might have? I would like to see her in India or somewhere like that, I don't think she's been in that corner of the globe yet has she?

I'd like to see a game in Australia or New Zealand, or one of the Scandinavian countries.

Something to do with King Arthur's England.

I'd like to see Nancy fall asleep while watching a movie or reading a book that takes place in the past -- 19th century or older -- and she has to solve a mystery as the heroine of the book or movie.

Aboard a big passenger liner. I think someone else suggested this once.
I think Nancy Drew mysteries work best where the action is confined to an isolated spot with people cut off from the wider world.

How about a Nancy Drew set in the 1930s like the original books. No cell phones or computers just natural sleuthing skills!

Secret of the Old Clock was set in the 1930s, and I thought they did a really good job with that game.

I was disappointed in it. Too many arcade-type games. Remember that voracious sewing machine? And all the golf games? Though the references to children's literature were cute and amusing, I'd rather have seen a more serious type of Nancy Drew game set in the 1930's -- more like the original books. More sleuthing and without the arcade games. Old Clock seemed to be more of a game for grandmas to play along with their very young grandkids (or vice versa) rather than a game for 12 years old and older.

Hi Vegpot smile

I really liked the earlier Nancy Drew games when the emphasis was on sleuthing and not chores - so as far as I'm concerned an adventure would need to be in that mode for a start laugh

[The best I've played lately was Shadow at the Water's Edge thumbsup]

As for location ?? Has she been to Egypt ?? Definitely plenty of mysterious settings to choose from there yes

Cheers.

How about her going into space!!! She might be doing the tourist thing at the space centre and end up somehow or other on board the shuttle or something, and then at the international space station, or a ND version of it!!!

Or a Christmas ND in Lapland, has she done anything like that? Maybe she gets a job helping in 'Santa's workshop' and some baddie or other is trying to ruin things for the Christmas tourists etc etc, cue baking Christmas cookies, decorating a tree, dressing up as an elf, riding reindeer, the chores could be many and varied !!
The ND in Space chores might be fun too, how about an oxygen leak panic as per Apollo 13 and Nancy has to mend the leak and rig up an oxygen generator using things like hairpins, rubber bands and an old sock etc etc!! Space walking, weightlessness, serving 'space food' in the canteen, woo hoo!!

Nancy Drew Deep Sea, goes to an isolated ocean research facility, ends up at the bottom of the very deep ocean in ancient ruins, has she done anything like that? I know she's snorkelled, but has she ever been in a deep sea diving vehicle?

I loved the miniature golf game in Secrets of the Old Clock, although I agree with Jenny that the sewing puzzle could have been left out. Once I saved after the end of each round of golf, it was pretty easy.

I liked the old roadster Nancy was driving, the black-and-white photograph of the gas station that you saw whenever you needed to get gas, the music in the game, etc. I replayed Secrets of the Old Clock recently and it held up very well.

There's currently an unsubstantiated rumor going around that the Nancy Drew game in October (game #25) is going to be set in Greece or River Heights, but we will just have to wait and see.

Egypt would be interesting, Mad (even though Egypt settings have been done to death in adventure games, I do think it would make a good Nancy Drew game). yes

I liked Jenny's idea of Nancy going back into the 18c or 19c to solve a mystery but with her mindset in the 21st c so that she can "complain" a bit about NOT having a cell or a PC. AND she would have to deal with all of the fussy girlie clothes. No jeans and sneakers

And etiquette. hee hee

BTW the sewing puzzle hardwall ? RIP whistle

I would love to see a game taking place at Christmas. Or Halloween.

I actually gave up on Nancy during that ordeal of the arcade game of throwing coconuts..... well anyway...

It would not matter to me where good ole Nance is or what she got hooked into as long as she does real sleuthing - in a real story - with real puzzles - like her earlier days somewhat.

Maybe "Her" can pull a game closely based on one of Nancy's older movies!

Hi Marian you were obviously right about Greece, I am just looking over this old thread about people's ideas for ND storylines and locations! I just finished Labyrinth of Lies and quite enjoyed it - the next one is in Iceland so that should be a really interesting location. I would like to see more set in the US actually, has there ever been one in a National Park like Yellowstone (I know there have been similar type settings but not sure if an actual National Park?) or maybe a New England historic village or something (can't remember if that's been done). Worldwide it might be The Netherlands perhaps, or maybe the Himalayas as 2 completely contrasting countries!

I believe that Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake took place in a State Park in Pennsylvania, so that's the closest that the series has come to the setting that you are describing.

As far as the New England historic village goes, there have been several references in previous games to Salem, Massachusetts - one or two of them being in a document that references paranormal tours in Salem - and I'm betting that a future game is planned there. One particularly observant player noticed that in Labyrinth of Lies, the letters on the seal of the packing manifest in the museum spell "Tituba." Tituba was a slave accused of witchcraft in Salem. There is also a phone conversation early on in the game that Nancy has with the Hardy Boys where Frank or Joe talks about a program they have watched and one of them says, "Burn, witch, burn!" I don't think that any of this is merely coincidence. Salem may not be the setting of game #33 necessarily, but I'm thinking that it's planned for the future. wave

I hope so Marian; I would love to have one where Nancy is in Salem.
